one of my favourites, Nathan Spoor, your thoughts?, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 24, 2008 18:57:50 GMT 1, I had never previously associated Nathan Spoor with the "Urban Art" scene. However, as Jef Aerosol has posted regarding a skate-related event which counts Nathan as one of the artists involved, I decided to start a thread to present some of his work to any of you who are unfamiliar. He's without doubt one of my favourite artists. His work is all, as far as I'm aware, painted in acrylics and his dreamy, surreal style, although maybe a bit "chocolate box" (a term I've stolen from a fellow member here) for some here, is right up my street. I find it compelling, super-easy on the eye and I can just drift off into many of his images and daydream. Not to mention his execution is beautiful. He's a very friendly and easy guy to contact, if you fancy buying or commissioning a piece and his pricing is fair imo. www.nathanspoor.com
If anyone has considered his canvas print at Copro Nason ( copronason.com/prints121.html ), I'd recommend it, you won't be disappointed! In the flesh it looks so much like an original it's scary and it represents a LOT of art for the money imo, it's one of my favourite pieces at home. For those of you unfamiliar with his works, feast your eyes on a few of my would be choices; D:

Hovered over the 'Buy' button for a few seconds but trying to resist buying any work as I'm saving up for my first Neate....which may take a little longer than first hoped, lol.

one of my favourites, Nathan Spoor, your thoughts?, by seidbereit on Jul 25, 2008 13:34:29 GMT 1, Very cool work indeed - a bit like Esao Andrews with some of the images, albeit with more a pen-and-ink/graphic design-like execution compared with EA's classical brushstrokes. Has NS also got some sort of grounding in architecture or town planning as he seems to have a knack of placing nice little fantasy cities and villages into his paintings.
Very nice stuff.

one of my favourites, Nathan Spoor, your thoughts?, by seidbereit on Jul 25, 2008 17:45:00 GMT 1, Just read through some of the interview articles on his site and they mention nothing about it either - I'd have put money on him being a bit of an architecture fan, but he never mentions it.

one of my favourites, Nathan Spoor, your thoughts?, by thesewalls on Jul 26, 2008 11:39:47 GMT 1, i thoroughly enjoy the last image in your post, with the 4 separate pieces (that i for whatever reason look at as letters). the similar one above it is also my style. the dream worlds are interesting, and fascinating in a way, but don't do it for me long term. a great illustration for a book maybe (i mean this as a compliment), i just can't see them on the wall. Jeff Soto and MARS-1 are two names that come to mind when looking at Nathan's art, for whatever that's worth...a twist of Escher too, after checking out the gallery on his site. Overall very cool, impressive stuff. I'm pleased either way to have been introduced to him, and if this were my flavored tea i'd be more than grateful. Thanks for the introduction heavy.

one of my favourites, Nathan Spoor, your thoughts?, by thesewalls on Jul 26, 2008 12:03:22 GMT 1, yo heavy-hev what are the origins of that last image? ever available in a ltd ed run?
hadn't checked copro nason for a while i thought i recognized that tree. so peaceful. on the flip side, i always loved Joe Vaux's "Rolling Plunder". it's cool that a lot of their stuff is on canvas and wood, in low editions. i believe you when you say it's quality...have you acquired anything else from them? i've heard good things about the Sol works but haven't seen any in el flesho. holler.

These Walls, I think your question about a limited run is in reference to "The Four Seasons" the details are as follows: The Four Seasons 30 x 28 inches each Acrylic on canvas x 4 (no limted run, but I would buy it if there was. To be honest I'd buy the originals if I could afford them, but this is one of his higher value pieces and it's much too much for me right now at around ยฃ3000 for the 4 pieces, although I don't think it's overpriced at all)
I love that series too, it really looks as if the images appear to jump off the canvas, if one were to view it in person, which I haven't. The other similar series above it has grown on me also. Those pieces are smaller (18 x 14 inches each).
In answer to your other question, yes, I bought an Amy Sol print on wood, which is printed directly onto the wood, not pasted on and it's of high quality, "To You From My View." I bought from CN over the phone and would recommend them highly. They were very friendly and attentive. They have a brilliant rosta of artists too. I was surprised the recent Jeff Gillette show didn't get a mention on here copronason.com/gillweb/index.htm. The work might not be very street, but it's content is highly anti-corporate and ties in with some of what people here seem to enjoy and it looks very well executed (on my screen). Definitly a site I enjoy keeping an eye on.
