New works and thoughts welcome please., by existra on Jul 16, 2008 19:34:05 GMT 1, I would love to hear people's thoughts and constructive critisms on a new piece i just finished...medium is crazy and is pretty trade-mark with the usage of cloth for the faces and collage materials.
Medium is wax, wax seal (the old envelope sealer-type material) red wine stains (on the wood, in the background) collage, cloth, wax and ink.
I welcome all and any thoughts...I am going to be cutting them in half to go side by side...right now they are on one piece of wood.

New works and thoughts welcome please., by existra on Jul 16, 2008 19:45:53 GMT 1, Sure, would love to...am new so sorry abouts the side ways photo.
The background is really a melting pot of society of sorts...the parts that I always use are a mix of models, not so models, and normal people. The hair for example is from a sumo wrestler...teh exact opposite of what a model portrays...
I have worked with many subjects but for me, portraits of people are the only thing that fit/work for me personally although I love abstract and minimalism...how for me is doing a piece of a face or person. I can relate I think so well to Neate's work because by looking at his work, he probably feels the same...many portraits and faces.
Overall the motivation and background is that we are all different. some people like to think they are a certain pure race but when it comes do to it, we are all closely related then we think...some of us that think we are so manly deep down inside have feminine parts in us too...
hope this came out OK...anymore questions please let me know.
Thanks!

New works and thoughts welcome please., by grantb on Jul 16, 2008 19:49:39 GMT 1, i was thinking bast styleee. but i like that style.
dont know what to say really, i like some parts but some i dont. i dont think theres much of a vocal point going on which in collages and cut ups i tend to feel. im not too sure about the middle section and the reasons for having the head split into two. im not to keen on teh images used but like the way its cut up.

New works and thoughts welcome please., by existra on Jul 16, 2008 20:28:03 GMT 1, Thanks...I was thinking after looking at the pictures I should have took an image off of a same/like color background. Will post more images once it is cut in half, so there are 2 faces side by side.
Thanks Matt! Yeah, all angles were intentionalโฆtrying to take away from the beauty since the girl in which the eye came from was a hottie.
I will post more images later of other pieces.
Thanks all, the feedback is very welcomed and appreciated.

New works and thoughts welcome please., by existra on Jul 16, 2008 20:36:27 GMT 1, Nope, not a famous beard at all...just some dude's beard.
after loooking at the eye in the upper face, the left eye does look "waxy" but really not the case. was very hard to photograph....i actually scraped.carved out the area...hard to tell and made the eye visual were as the bottom face i intentially covered up the right eye so it gives it a glazed look but very visable still.
I got some crazy pieces I am working on of other faces and such...a long story short but have some mixed medium with real dried up minnows in them...was ice fishing this past winter and took a sharp turn and had minnows all over my seats. well i cleaned up and found all i could but just 2 days ago found about 15 all dried up and used them in some of my figures.
