McEwan among most powerful creatives 08.07.08 Anna Richardson
Seven people from the publishing industry have made it onto the Independent's inaugural Hospital Club 100--a list crowning the most powerful among London's creative industries.
Ian McEwan ranks 12 and is the highest ranking publishing figure. He is joined by fellow author Sebastian Faulks at 52; Gail Rebuck, Random House Group chair and c.e.o., at 33; United Agents' Simon Trewin at 84; Cactus TV m.d. Amanda Ross at 81; PFD c.e.o. Caroline Michel at 50; and the Book Depository's Mark Thwaite, who is featured at 76 for his blog Ready Steady Book.
The Independent's Media Weekly section launched the list last month, inviting anyone working within the creative industries to vote online for the top figures.
According to organisers, there was "an overwhelming response to the shortlist โ people voted in their tens of thousands".
The highest ranked personality is graffiti artist Banksy, followed by DJ and music producer Mark Ronson and Shine c.e.o. Elizabeth Murdoch in second and third place.

Banksy - Most Powerful Creative, by doughy on Jul 9, 2008 14:58:02 GMT 1, I think Banksy could still be classed as underground, due to the images he creates and the method of release in the open, but the hoopla and media around observing his circus is perhaps the mainstream element?
Is this website underground? or mainstream?

Banksy - Most Powerful Creative, by Gentle Mental on Jul 9, 2008 15:05:18 GMT 1, Every one on the list has the ability to generate hype and news etc, but does Banksy's work (his creativity) have the "most power"?
To, say, change the world? Or at least, tomorrow's (mainstream media) headline?

Banksy - Most Powerful Creative, by weeble on Jul 9, 2008 15:21:12 GMT 1, I think Banksy work and, ironically, his image, is very powerful indeed. I have a 14 year old work experience lad with me who idolises Banksy, he's based all his coursework around stencil graffiti. In fact, in he was telling me that his school has a wall dedicated to graffiti and every so often pupils get chosen to create something special on it. He's created stencils of Che and copied Bansky images. To him Banksy/Banksy's image is underground - because he sees it as something his mum and dad doesn't really understand. To move someone like that, to create a fire in someone without ever showing their identity, that's a very powerful thing indeed.
