Monitor for Graphic Design (off topic sorry), by DYL4N on Jul 2, 2008 10:08:14 GMT 1, Mornin guys,
Got to work this morning and my Phillips 22'' Monitor seems to have passed away in its sleep
So I gotta buy a new monitor this morning. There is a vast range out there, so any advice on a good one for graphic design, the boss (and I dont blame him, cause thats me ;D) doesnt want to shell out on a Apple Cinema Display.
Any advice appreciated, i'm just running the usual Adobe CS2 stuff and Quark, so the colours need to be pretty true, cause I dont have a calibrator. And of course its for my G5 Mac.
Cheers guys ;D

Monitor for Graphic Design (off topic sorry), by Adamski on Jul 2, 2008 11:27:17 GMT 1, I have a Samsung 22 inch widescreen LCD Model number 226BW and I love it. It's also a whole lot cheaper than an Apple monitor
My only comment with large LCD screens is that you get colour fade from top to bottom, even when it is the correct height because of the change in viewing angle from your eyes, but as long as you are aware of that, then it's no problem. Depends on whether you print everything to proof...sometimes I'm a bit lazy like that!
having said that, I have terrible eyes, even as a graphic designer...maybe that's why all the colours come out wrong... ;D

Monitor for Graphic Design (off topic sorry), by They call me Stephen on Jul 2, 2008 11:52:29 GMT 1, i don't think the apple cinema displays are up to much anymore...they look beautiful but it's been a long long time since they were last updated so are outperformed by quite alot of the competition at present.
we've been using dell 24" widescreen displays here in our office and they're pretty darn good. work fine with macs and i believe have pretty up to date specs.

Monitor for Graphic Design (off topic sorry), by icky on Jul 2, 2008 11:57:32 GMT 1, We have a few new Samsung monitors at work too and they are a good buy for the price. If you take a step up from the cheapest you won't get the problems with viewing angle and you can't have that if you're serious about graphic design.
Eizo are good too, but a bit more expensive.

I tried a few 24 inchers to couple w/my 30" cinema display. Ended up with a dell2407wfphc for $500 and very satisfied. Unfortunately, some of dells ultrasharp line have downgraded to TN panels.
