That was then, this is now - OUCH!, by Moron on Jun 16, 2008 21:08:06 GMT 1, Following from the "...one that got away..." thread.
I was on the web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.picturesonwalls.com "take me back" search and looked up pictures on walls website. I checked out the bansky prices back in 2004 and it's amazing that they were under ยฃ100 at that stage.
Are there any other artists over the same period that have rocked to fame and you had at the time said "nah, they will never be famous either because I don't have the money now or [OTHER]".
Tell us your stories... ;D
Details people - I love to hear about these!

That was then, this is now - OUCH!, by felix on Jun 16, 2008 21:26:06 GMT 1, I would have loved some Kate Moss colourways on my wall
But back when they were for sale spending ยฃ1500 on art then was like spending ยฃ50000 now, I couldn't / can't justify it.
Time for a new job...

That was then, this is now - OUCH!, by nombei on Jun 16, 2008 21:51:43 GMT 1, i was lucky enough to buy some of the early Banksy prints back when they were 35 - 70GBP for the unsigned prints. clearly i wasn't too smart cuz i didn't pay 150GBP for the signed versions...
nor did i buy all of the prints that were available -- still kick myself for not getting a Laugh Now or Love Is In the Air or Girl With Balloon...
i did also get a number of Faile pieces from their site before that became impossible. and have many of the earlier Hecox and Kinsey prints that i liked.
missed the boat on Micallef and Neate though. they were pricier than most of the things i had bought before.

That was then, this is now - OUCH!, by slowmo on Jun 16, 2008 22:32:52 GMT 1, Thing is, if you're really honest, there really weren't all that many good Banksy prints. Rude copper, happy choppers and BME missed them all, didnt know they were sold till too late. Chose not to buy CWS, jack and jill, any rats (why would you want one, there were loads to look at on the street), grim reaper (bit naff), always thought about I fought the law, never pulled the trigger, Toxic mary. Did choose to buy wsm and barcode. Newer stuff, well picked up a colour trolleys, which I swapped and swapped a micallef to get grannies, which I really liked but assumed I would have ages to make my mind up on.
Honestly if most of these images were put out by anyone now, would they really sell quickly if there wasn't a massive profit in it?
EDIT - Just saw post above, I wouldn't let my wife buy girl with balloon as I thought it was too minimal, that I do regret as I now love that image.

That was then, this is now - OUCH!, by illy on Jun 16, 2008 22:43:24 GMT 1, I'm just getting in to Denning and picked up a piece for 850 a few months ago.... a very similar piece has a 2k asking price now.... I think Denning will prove to be a huge investment in the next 12 months especially as they are mainly originals and not too many prints!

i agree with you about a lot of the early stuff. never liked Toxic Mary or Grin Reaper. nor the Rats. looked at the Napalm print a lot and thought it was a strong image, but didn't want that on my wall.
i went with Bomb Hugger, Flying Copper and HMV. should have grabbed Laugh Now and LIITA and GWB too but oh well.
Edit: my friends told me GWB was for emo kids. couldn't buy it after that.

I think my shimmering red butterfly girl only cost about ยฃ140... Will always kick myself for not buying a bunny girl!
