Best way to send a BRP tube from UK to USA, by stradled on May 27, 2008 21:42:29 GMT 1, I have to send a print from BRP to a guy in the US, but Parcelforce price is about ยฃ65.
Can anyone advise me the best/cheapest way?

check the royal mail website for size dimensions... small packet limit is 90cm. thats length + twice the diameter.

If i rememebr rightly the brp tubes are 91cm in length and 56 cm in diamiter, which exceeds the 200cm limit of a tube.

The insurance is an issue I can't comment on. The piece I sent was only insured for ยฃ400 for tax reasons. Luckily it arrived safely in Aus. That's why I wanted to use the BRP tube, because it was a high-value print, very much underinsured. Even if some cvnt postal worker uses that thing as a light-sabre his mate's head will bust before those tubes do!!

If however you need a slightly smaller tube but larger in diameter than POW and you want to have a customised length try going to your local carpet shop. They usually have stacks of empty tubes by their bins that are anything up to 10' long and are usually more than happy to let you take as many as you can carry. These tubes are great especially if you like to double tube for peace of mind.

Price shouldnt really come into the equation. Its all about speed and safety because you dont want to be stressing about it when it takes ages to arrive. I would send it signed recorded air mail only -everytime. If you dont get it recorded -who's to say it ever gets recieved? Whether or not you want to pay insurrance is completley up to you. If your worried about it getting stolen just remember it has 'Black Rat Press' stamped about a dozen times over the tube. If your worried about it getting damaged -just remember the tube is pretty damn robust.
