london mayor, by funyoung on Apr 25, 2008 16:46:46 GMT 1, you can't have a democratic process and then turn around and complain about the BNP being there and abusing those that chose them, otherwise you too are bigotted just like the people you hate...it doesn't make sense, it's like having democracy but only allowing parties you agree with in some way but not those that you strongly object to.
I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. By instilling fear into other forum users by abusing them (see page 1) you are making a mockery of democracy and should be ashamed. The whole idea of the poll is to answer questions then post the answer, not only post the answer if every one else here deems it acceptable.
I ended up with Boris, then UKIP, with Ken as far down the list as you can get.

I would be devastated if I wasn’t. To be honest if you feel abused for being berated for having a far right wing political point of view, tough shit, the argument goes both ways. I’d rather have a more “immigrants” in this country than the narrow minded white trash scum that call them self BNP English.

london mayor, by hamemi on Apr 26, 2008 18:20:16 GMT 1, Just a few quick question as immigration seems to bother so many people on here.
who here wants to be a:-
a) cleaner b) health care worker c) macdonals worker d) over worked and paid peanuts
does "they're taking our jobs" apply to any of the above? I think not.
I acknowledge their are those who abuse the system but their are bad apples in ever community. It is easy to scapegoat others to detract from addressing other failures. The governments millitary spening is 25billion pounds, tell me how much could that do for this country. In Iraq alone the government has spent 6 billion pounds, that is incomprehensible amounts of money flushed down the drain. I am a second generation immigrant and proud to be British. I love this country, it is the only home I know.
It has been said on another thread "we are losing our country" I agree we are, to ignorance and bigoted attitudes.

As a (second generation) immigrant there will come a time that you will have to realise that just because some1 mentions immigration issues, it dosnt make them a biggot or a racist

I can't continue this is too boring. Good luck, just remember that bitterness will eat you up inside. I hope it does. "My son".

london mayor, by funyoung on Apr 26, 2008 21:40:05 GMT 1, Hamemi you are doing yourself no favours here. Cashman's responses may not be what you want to hear but unfortunately seem not unreasonable. You think that everyone is out to get you but the reality is that he was referring to the Australian immigration policy. I asked what that was and you, through your inability to elucidate, have proven your own lack of 'worldly experience' or 'education'.
Sorry but are those the only jobs that overseas immigrants have? You have a very stereo-typed view of immigrants. You need to get with the 21st century.

Here is the gist of my comment as you can't grasp it.
Australia = natives ethnically cleansed. Australia= land full of immigrants. Australia = tough policy on immigration = farcical because of this.
Is that more clear?
I hope so.

london mayor, by funyoung on Apr 26, 2008 22:22:46 GMT 1, lol. By convoluted - you mean 'elucidate'? It means clarify.
Cashman was suggesting (I believe) that Australias immigration policy is designed to help people that are there first. Where they came from (It's been a while since we sent criminals there) is largely irrelevant. What the Australian governement is worried about is 'looking after its own' as the global population increases.
Oh and by the way - I'm not big but I'm told I am clever.

1. Aborigines themselves migrated to Australia (albeit around 40,000 years ago). 2. Although Australia has a tough policy on 'asylum-seekers' immigration to the country continues to rise. It is all about 'who' you let in for them.

As you are so clever how about you read this book and get back to me:
Immigrants: Your Country Needs Them by Philippe Legrain
With your intellect you should be done in a week or so. Let me know what you think.

Bang on.
I sailed to New York earlier this year and had a heated conversation with a wealthy Italian/American fella who was complaining about immigration into the USA. I was like'But, WTF? You're kdding, yeah?'
And, FFS, Australia??? The indiginous population has been decimated, indeed, hunted to extinction in Tasmania. That's right - hunted. Like, pursued and killed....
Australia has more immigrants than pretty much anywhere on earth (as % of population) and more nationalities. Unsurprisingly, it is the WASPs now telling everyone what is good for them....

We are lead to believe that immigration is to blame for everything from crime to lack of jobs and public services. In realty the facts on the ground paint a somewhat different picture
The media plays a vital roll in the hate campaign against immigration. Lets not forget that the primary function of the media is not to keep anybody informed, but like any business, to make a profit for their owners. The owners of the press determine who has something to say, which facts, which version of the facts and which ideas shall reach the world at large.
One of those people responsible for feeding us such ideas is the wonderfully “fair and balanced” media Tycoon Rupert Murdoch. He would love us to blame society’s ills on our friend the immigrant. While we direct anger and hate at our fellow brethren, we avoid gazing healthy fat cats laughing all the way to the piggy bank. This is of course also a man who pays Britain virtual no tax due to wonderful tax havens and off shore accounts.
Scapegoating is often used as a great way for the rich and powerful to deflect blame. The Nazi’s made a lovely campaign out of blaming the Jews for the finical crisis in Germany. Here in Britain, it seems that every generation of immigrants get the blame for the same lack of jobs, healthcare and housing etc. If you took copy’s of the Daily Mail or Express from today and 40 years ago you could probably replace Polish or Eastern European with Irish, Indian or Caribbean without effecting the story much in anyway.
Our government spends billions on warfare meaning money not spent on welfare. Billionaires in cahoots with government dodge tax via off shore tax havens. KNOW YOUR REAL ENEMY. 67% of the worlds wealth is owned by 2% of its population whilst half the population lives on less than $2 a day. This is the same world were one man (Bill Gates) can amass a 70 million pound fortune, equivalent to the gross domestic output of all African countries combined. There is a leech, a scrounger and burden on society and that leech is the obesely wealthy. KNOW YOUR REAL ENEMY.
Immigration Facts:
There are between 310,000 and 570,000 illegal immigrants in the UK, according to Home Office estimates
If allowed to live legally, they would pay more than £1bn in tax each year
Deporting them would cost £4.7bn and leave acute shortages of cleaners, care workers and hotel staff. If allowed to stay, the net benefit of nearly £6bn would pay for 300 new schools, 12 district hospitals or 200,000 new nurses
Nearly 50% of foreign-born immigrants leave Britain within five years
Migrants fill 90% of low-paid jobs in London and account for 29% of the capital's workforce. London is the UK's fastest-growing region
Legal migrants comprise 8.7% of the population, but contribute 10.2% of all taxes. Each immigrant pays an average of £7,203 in tax, compared with £6,861 for non-migrant workers
There were 25,715 people claiming asylum last year. If allowed to work, they would generate £123m for the Treasury
People born overseas account for about 10% of the population. This is up from just more than 6% in 1981 and just over 8% in 2001. This is compared with 24% in Australia, 23% in Switzerland, 19% in Canada and 13% in America. In France that figure is 8%, and 7% in Denmark.
The headlines ... and the truth
HALT THE TIDE OF EU MIGRANTS ... HIV CHILDREN BRINGING TIMEBOMB TO BRITAIN - Sunday Express, 20/8
Claim: Britain is confronted with an HIV time bomb when Romanian teenagers descend on our over-stretched health service. Reality: There are 15,850 Romanians with HIV/Aids, according to the UN. Two thirds were infected while living in children's state institutions during the late 1980s. The infection rate is 0.7 per cent of the population - slightly less than in the UK.
EAST EUROPE MIGRANTS HELP TAKE JOBLESS TO SIX-YEAR HIGH - Daily Mail, 17/8
Claim: Unemployment has soared to its highest level for more than six years as thousands of workers arrive from eastern Europe. Reality: While the unemployment rate rose last month, the number of people in work grew by 42,000 over the three months to March 2006 and by 240,000 over the year, to reach 28.94 million - the highest number of people in work since records began in 1971.
MIGRANTS GET BRITS' PAY SLASHED BY 50 PER CENT - The Sun, 18/8
Claim: Earnings of British builders and other manual workers have slumped by 50 per cent as a flood of east European migrants drives down wages. Reality: The annual growth rate in average earnings excluding bonuses, was 3.9 per cent in June 2006, up 0.1 per cent on the previous month. Including bonuses wages grew by 4.3 per cent, up 0.2 per cent on the previous month.
UNCHECKED IMMIGRATION IS PUTTING BRITONS OUT OF WORK - Daily Telegraph, 18/8
Claim: The unprecedented influx of newcomers has had an impact on the availability of social housing. Reality: The shortage of homes in Britain pre-dates the arrival of east European workers. Accession state workers do not qualify for council housing.
NHS AND SCHOOLS 'AT RISK FROM SURGE IN EU IMMIGRANTS' - The Times 31/07
Claim: A leaked government report warned that schools and hospitals will struggle to cope with an influx of people from eastern Europe. Reality: Immigrants make up 8 per cent of the workforce but contribute 10 per cent of the UK's GDP. Ernst & Young reports they are net tax contributors - rather than a burden - to the public purse, easing the pensions bill through tax and keeping interest rates at least 0.5 per cent lower - equivalent to £500 a year on the average mortgage.
And who can forget the great "Asylum seekers eat our swans" blasted on the front page of The Sun, (it featured a great inside story on how swans find a mate for life and often cry when there life long partner dies.) Need I say the story was complete poop!
For anyone thinking of voting for the BNP I suggest you rethink and research the partys policy’s history and leadership. Lets make one thing clear this is a party of facists in drag. Founded by the Hitler loving John Tyndall the BNP’s leadership includes people with criminal convictions from vilonent racists attacts and inciting racial hatred, drug dealing, gun trafficking, holocaust deniel, gang rape to keeping explosive devices.
Quotes from there wonderfully cheerful leader Nick Griffin:
The politicians, those in charge of the mass media, police chiefs and others responsible for creating this multi-racial hell hole must face trial and pay the ultimate penalty”.
“the BNP needs to be a strong, disciplined organisation with the ability to back up its slogan, ‘Defend Rights for Whites’, with well directed boots and fists. When the crunch comes, power is the product of force and will, not of rational debate”.
Can I also state that I believe this poll shows us how far street art has come from its original origins. Street art in its purest form of expression on the street has always been subversive in its pursuit to challenge and change the world around it. But alas like all good culture and forms of artistic expression when money enters politics and progression take a back seat. The future is bright the future is sponsored by Orange!
Banksy everyone’s buying but no ones listening!

Banksy everyone’s buying but no ones listening!

london mayor, by mose on Apr 26, 2008 23:37:50 GMT 1, There are between 310,000 and 570,000 illegal immigrants in the UK, according to Home Office estimates If allowed to live legally, they would pay more than £1bn in tax each year Deporting them would cost £4.7bn and leave acute shortages of cleaners, care workers and hotel staff. If allowed to stay, the net benefit of nearly £6bn would pay for 300 new schools, 12 district hospitals or 200,000 new nurses Nearly 50% of foreign-born immigrants leave Britain within five years Migrants fill 90% of low-paid jobs in London and account for 29% of the capital's workforce. London is the UK's fastest-growing region Legal migrants comprise 8.7% of the population, but contribute 10.2% of all taxes. Each immigrant pays an average of £7,203 in tax, compared with £6,861 for non-migrant workers There were 25,715 people claiming asylum last year. If allowed to work, they would generate £123m for the Treasury People born overseas account for about 10% of the population. This is up from just more than 6% in 1981 and just over 8% in 2001. This is compared with 24% in Australia, 23% in Switzerland, 19% in Canada and 13% in America. In France that figure is 8%, and 7% in Denmark.
How do you justify the call for amnesty for lawbreaking foreign nationals in the face of what occured since the US passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986?

london mayor, by guest2 on Apr 26, 2008 23:44:43 GMT 1, “Before the war (WW2), people were attacking the Jews and the communists, then the trade unions and now it's immigrants… When you get to my age, you realise every generation has to fight the same battles” -Tony Benn We are lead to believe that immigration is to blame for everything from crime to lack of jobs and public services. In realty the facts on the ground paint a somewhat different picture The media plays a vital roll in the hate campaign against immigration.
