How much to fork out on vandel, by tommyboy on Apr 18, 2008 15:09:23 GMT 1, ok decided not to go to queue up and missed the online release for the other 2 prints as not even considered that it would be released so early.
but i want to get my hands on a v for vandel but money is tight
Cheepest on ebay is about ยฃ1.5k, to be honest i would not be happy paying more than 1K for this, print.
do you think i may get one for this price, or has any forum members wanting to sell at that price.
i am pissed because i was going to buy a moona when on bay for ยฃ250 but missed out by a snipper bidding at last min, then price of that print went through the roof. i think the v for vandel print is good for ยฃ1k and cant pay no more
What do you think this will go for i 1 weeks time, or in 2 months time?

How much to fork out on vandel, by Deleted on Apr 18, 2008 15:15:51 GMT 1, Welcome to the world of missed opportunities tommy! As for the print pricing/buying strategy, there really isn't one. I think all of us would agree that hype (especially the kind that gets created on the forum) drives prices. At the moment Nick is pretty popular and his work is selling for quite a premium in the secondary market. It's hard to say what the long term trend is and anyone that says otherwise is speculating. I personally don't collect Nick's work so I can't really give you an answer. But, I can tell you that typically the first few that sell afer a release seems to sell for more in the beginning. Good luck!

How much to fork out on vandel, by carlito on Apr 18, 2008 15:20:25 GMT 1, my advice would be wait a week or so, and see the lay of the land....the prices may settle or steadily drop...but the problem is once supply dries up the prices may well start to rise again..I guess what I'm saying is watch and wait - and jump when u think they're their lowest...
also keep an eye out on here with some postings on the trading area..asking for one at 1k and see if anyone bites

How much to fork out on vandel, by nadir on Apr 18, 2008 16:18:11 GMT 1, So many people selling this print. Doesn't seem to be that popular. Not as popular as money anyway. I'd hold on for a couple of weeks. Prices will go down IMO.
'Apish Angel' is an iconic NW print also from an edition of 150 that you can pick up for sub-ยฃ400.
Don't believe the hype.

How much to fork out on vandel, by blackbeltjones on Apr 18, 2008 16:25:33 GMT 1, give it a few weeks and you'll get one for less than a grand.. it seems a lot of people are talking it up to raise the market value for when they flip it. i wouldn't pay over a 1K for it.. saying that ยฃ350 is a bit much..... flippers are laughing all the way to the bank!

How much to fork out on vandel, by jam on Apr 18, 2008 16:32:58 GMT 1, This is complete and utter nonsense. Two months ago you couldn't get cost back for any Walker print, and could barely get cost back on a hand sprayed piece. There were prints and originals available that just sat and collected dust because very few people if any wanted to buy them. NOW all of a sudden (and with ONE auction record to site), everyone thinks he is huge and a must have. Give me a break!
Also consider the strong possibility the prices on ebay are BS. You don't know if any of them are actually selling (cash changing hands) at these prices, or if people are messing with the auctions by hitting the BIN... or further, that people are running up bids to make it appear the prints are more valuable than they are. Do people really believe its rational to pay more for a Nick Walker than a Banksy?! Use your heads, and keep your cash for when the prices sort out to their true values... anyone else that feels the need to go spend huge cash on a Walker print should remember the Tusser quote โA fool and his money are soon parted.โ

I only buy direct from the artist or gallery. That way you get full provenance, you're the registered owner and you don't pay over the odds. IMO.

Agree 100%
I had a Orange Baby Moll Edition of 10 that I bought from Nick back in January 07 for $400-$500, I think. January 08 listed it on ebay and couldnt get a $350 BIN, 2 weeks ago I got like $800. And probably could get like twice that right now.
Nick does good work but this sudden attraction and demand is odd. His work is no better now IMO than it has been all along. Goods used to sit on his site forver. Everything of his is over-inflated and wont hold. Peeps are looking for the next "big guy", thats all it is. Sell it now and buy back next year if you really like something.

i agree to an extent. i was never a huge fan of nw's work. i've got a mona lisa simpson which i bought way back but that was about it. i did think about buying a moona lisa about 9 months ago and a member on here had agreed to sell me for cost but then i thought it would never make it to the wall now that i have a young child so i pulled out of the purchase.
however, i much prefer his new body of work. i really like the tma/vandal series and that has taken nw to a new level so people are now hoovering up his older work. i'd far sooner pay ยฃ1500 for a vandal airways than i would ยฃ400 for an apish angel.
who is to say which artists will stand the test of time. sure there is a lot of hype on this forum but who is to say that any artist doesn't suddenly release an outstanding body of work which elevates him/her to a new legendary status.
