A Phantom graffiti artist has struck again in a Forest town.A stencilled image of a man spraying the words 'I can't vandalize with you watching' has been sprayed onto a 6ft garden wall at Upper Bilson Road in Cinderford.
An identical image of a man spraying the word 'sorry' appeared on a wall in Woodgate Road just off Cinderford High Street in October last year.
The offender is unknown.
Mayor of Cinderford, Max Coborn, believes that the culprit is attempting to imitate the world-renowned Bristol based artist, Banksy.
He said: "Whoever did it is obviously trying to copy Banksy.
"The thing is, Banksy art is very nice, and this is just a cheap imitation."
Mr Coborn also feels that the art is having a detrimental effect on the general appearance of the town, and fears for Cinderford's future.
"It doesn't look very nice does it, it is an eyesore. With this and the piece on the High Street, it makes the town look run down.
"The next thing you know, art like this will be popping up all over the place, and we don't want that. It should be painted over."
The original graffiti on Woodgate Road was painted over, only for the artist to return shortly afterwards to re-stencil the image, but this time with the words 'Now I'm not sorry'. The image is still there.
This new piece of work is painted on a rear garden wall, and this is not the first time it has happened.
Steve Meek lives in a property opposite, which faces the wall. He said: "It has happened on numerous occasions in the past, but nothing ever as big as this one.
"I understand the owner of the property is going to leave it on there for a while as they are tired of painting over the graffiti, and then getting more on there afterwards.
"I would like to see it off there though, it doesn't look good."
Forest of Dean District Council was unaware of the graffiti at the time of going to press and promptly sent two street wardens to assess the damage.
A spokesperson for the FDDC said: "Graffiti is unsightly and we will be dealing with it.
"We will be talking to the house owner, and if they agree to pay for the paint, we can possibly arrange for it to be painted over."
POLICE spokeswoman Annabel Brittain, said: "Graffiti amounts to criminal damage and this is taken very seriously by us as we work to make this an even safer and more pleasant place to live.
"We would be very grateful for any information about the person responsible for these and, indeed, any other graffiti incidents in the town.
"Please call the Forest North Safer Community Team on 0845 090 1234."

"Cheap Imitation of Banksy", by mcster on Mar 30, 2008 19:13:11 GMT 1, I can't get the link working either, but looking at the pictures above they remind me a little of a bloke called 'Geeka' from Liverpool although I think Geeka's stuff is normally a lot classier than that (he sells stuff on a site called 7Press if anyone is interested).

"Cheap Imitation of Banksy", by andrewd on Mar 30, 2008 19:31:06 GMT 1, A quiet news day in the New Forest then.
Gone are the days when writers could spend years developing a style without anyone paying a blind bit of notice. Get a can out in a remote part of the world and it's news!
