HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by alsbabar on Feb 19, 2008 14:37:57 GMT 1, then i got a message off a forum member "I'm having a bit of a problems with this lad, He's got a print of mine and has noow decided to mess about on the payment, he's a f**kin nightmare to deal with. Steer well clear of him." says alot really
ok bigman as I told you in PM, this is such a bulls**t excuse. You are referring to Jipsy and his GIWTBB. He offered to send this print, and I have the PM to back it up, if I liked it, buy it for ยฃ375, if not send it back. I got it, didnt like it, offered to send it back, he throws his toys out of his pram, I end up buying it off him for ยฃ350.
However, i did Jipsy a huge favour couple of months ago, by putting him in touch with a friend who is an authorised Rolex dealer, gave Jipsy a 20% discount on a watch thats worth ยฃ2K - saving him nearly ยฃ400. Jipsy the cheeky fcuker, rather than selling me his GITWBB at cost, wants ebay money for it.
So tell me, who has no honour in this transaction?

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by funyoung on Feb 19, 2008 14:46:36 GMT 1, i was actually finding the debate quite interesting - then it got hijacked by people moaning about the thread - which is counter-productive to my way of thinking.
No interest in thread = don't contribute and let others talk.
Do you go up to people in the street and tell them their conversations are boring? If you don't then why do that here? If you do then your social skills need updating.
Abuse of others isn't exactly informed debate.
Yes i have only been on this forum for a short period of time - does this mean i can't contribute? does this mean i can't be a party to a conversation on flipping? just because the conversation has been had by others it does not mean that everything has been said. If it did then life would be very boring where you are not allowed to discuss anything that anyone, anywhere, anytime has had before.
Maybe we could change the thread title to "Flippers Discussion' and then all of you with no opinion other than boring / ZZZZ / close the thread etc would not even have to open it!
Now - how do you like those apples!

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by alsbabar on Feb 19, 2008 15:03:35 GMT 1, i just think we should all stop laying into people who sell there prints/art - it doesnt matter if they bought it 24 hours ago or 24 months ago - it is theres to do as they please. If someone doesnt like their price, dont buy it!!!
I am sure majority of people who buy art off ebay, are not members of this forum, so trashing people on here dont count for shit out there!!!

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by barry cilit on Feb 19, 2008 15:05:49 GMT 1, All this fuss over a Skull-face print? people should be allowed to do what they like in this country and if selling bits of paper in tubes allows them to buy more bits of paper in tubes then its ok by me. Lets keep the guns and violence out of bits of paper in tubes.

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by gtf on Feb 19, 2008 15:10:38 GMT 1, No one is looking at from the viewpoint of the artist or the gallery who knowingly sell prints at below market value. Take the recent Nick Walker release by BRP โ 100 copies sold at ยฃ300 = ยฃ30k. These could have easily been sold at ยฃ1,000 and would have sold out, which would have been ยฃ100k. Assuming a 50:50 split between the gallery and the artist that is ยฃ35k extra each!
If the flipping (and Iโm talking about selling immediately/very shortly after the show) continues to increase it seriously jeopardises the Galleries continuing to sell the prints at below market value. If they believe they are not going to fans and are only being flipped and others making a big profit, why bother selling them so cheaply? Several galleries/artists have expressed concern at this practise, SOS, ObeyGiant, POW, to name a few.
This could put these prints out of the reach of some of us, or make it a lot more expensive for the rest of us. Something to think about........

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by seidbereit on Feb 19, 2008 15:12:07 GMT 1, then i got a message off a forum member "I'm having a bit of a problems with this lad, He's got a print of mine and has noow decided to mess about on the payment, he's a f**kin nightmare to deal with. Steer well clear of him." says alot really ok bigman as I told you in PM, this is such a bulls**t excuse.
I'm sure I'm not the only one reading this thread who's very happy that you don't know any of my business to broadcast it the way you have done in Jipsy and bigman's cases. Really, really bad form.
It would be worth bringing back the respect system just to watch you get nuked.

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by funyoung on Feb 19, 2008 16:00:15 GMT 1, i was actually finding the debate quite interesting - then it got hijacked by people moaning about the thread - which is counter-productive to my way of thinking. Now - how do you like those apples! ..rotten apples I'm afraid bud..threads like this appear too often and are unproductive to all but new forum members getting excited about gossip and uninformed conjecture..
lol. obviously missed the bit about 'no interest = don't contribute'. gossip? - you mean people's opinions? conjecture? where?

True, to a point, but if they didn't buy them in the first place, (which stops non-flippers owning work) we wouldn't have to go to them. In cases where no flipper bought a print, then more people would own it, and in theory decrease demand.
However, the more flippers get a print means there are more on the market, so in theory should drive down price, but at the same time they drive up price by denying someone who wanted a print and has to go to the secondary market.

However, the more flippers get a print means there are more on the market, so in theory should drive down price, but at the same time they drive up price by denying someone who wanted a print and has to go to the secondary market.

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by Deleted on Feb 19, 2008 18:24:43 GMT 1, if 'we' weren't prepared to pay their prices they wouldn't ask them and would soon go out of business. Is it just an example of supply and demand? True, to a point, but if they didn't buy them in the first place, (which stops non-flippers owning work) we wouldn't have to go to them. I completely disagree. There are more "real collectors" than there are prints. Every single one of us has a price. If someone offered you $20k for your unsigned Banksy are you sure you would say no? If only "real collectors" buy prints, I think prices would be even higher and there will be people who will cave in. I've said it once and I'll say it again...WHO CARES? We all have better things to do than talk about the same thing over and over again.

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by stuey09 on Feb 19, 2008 18:33:10 GMT 1, Bottom line MM is one of the oldest members on here.....Collecting long before the mass hysteria surrounding the LA Shows. If he runs out of wall space it is only right to free room up by passing the work on to another collector/fan Better than sitting under a bed in portfolio only to see the light of day after a good auction result.............
He's 57 years old for gods sake, leave the old git alone somerset.

HOLD ON A MINUTE, manchestermike the flipper, by graeme501 on Feb 19, 2008 19:00:16 GMT 1, i just think we should all stop laying into people who sell there prints/art - it doesnt matter if they bought it 24 hours ago or 24 months ago - it is theres to do as they please. If someone doesnt like their price, dont buy it!!! I am sure majority of people who buy art off ebay, are not members of this forum, so trashing people on here dont count for s**t out there!!!
maybe u should listen 2 ur own advice, u were slagging off my, as u put, flipper prices, on my sales thread, even though the prices i listed were less than ebay

You completely disagree? What I am talking about is basic maths. If a flipper buys a print that an art lover wanted for their wall, that's a person that has to go to the secondary market.
Talking about someone offering me 20K for me Banksy is neither here nor there. When there is a finite resource, the more demand there is the harder it is to get something. There are usually more collectors than prints, but if only collectors bought prints and not flippers, there would be less demand. As I said, that's basic maths.
