haha, i was just saying it was harsh to have a go at me.

I'm really sick of this nonsense about flipping, it seems that this is born out of sheer resentment from people who can't make a decent amount of money themselves. The vast majority of people who complain that they can't buy something because the flippers have - when in reality the only reason that they are interested in the art is due to the value that they believe it will be worth. I don't often post on the forum, and feel that there are some interesting threads. But all too often, when everything else is stripped away there base theme is money. I have absolutely no problem with people buying art as either investment or for personal pleasure. This forum shoudl not be a place to criticise those motives for getting into art, more a place to swap stories and ideas about street art and how it is developing.

The plan wasn't to buy to sell, it went straight on the wall the day it arrived and was there to stay. A combination of factors have arisen over the last week which mean I'm selling this and a few other bits. Some of the money (unfortunately not all) will be going back into art. I've bought something already and have my eye on something else, but unfortunately some cash is needed elsewhere too...

There's a choice of things I could sell and when looked at taking various views this is the one that has to go... for numerous reasons, although unlike some I do actually think that the "ugliness" makes this one... that's why I went for it over the other I could have. My girlfriend wanted me to sell something else, but like I said there is a reason behind selling this one instead

I suppose it will be tempered by the fact I've got my D Balloon Dogs original at misterframeman at the moment...

But anyway, a reason for everything and for everything a reason... thanks for lumping me in with "coolchris" snakes, but the fact still remains that this was in no way bought to flip... but people (not meaning you incidentally) will believe what they want...

And sorry cas - Even if you wanted it for cost (which isn't the figure you've given anyway) it wouldn't happen, if I offered it for cost - i.e. well, well under the market rate what would the point of that be??? What's the betting people who don't like it suddenly see the inner beauty and like the day after Bonhams I'm inundated with PMs from people who previously were slating something I'm selling ;D

In one way or another everyone that sells with a profit is a flipper!?

But looking at MM's collection it seems he has put more money into art than he has gotten back

I personally enjoy manchestermikes post's & photo's of his collection as most of it is pieces i would not have seen or think of affording. everybody buy's & sells at some point.

If he runs out of wall space it is only right to free room up by passing the work on to another collector/fan

load of bollocks, especially after the abuse i received last week. I too have been collecting art for a long time, but there is a stigma attached to people selling art on here. If MM (and again mike I am not having a pop) chooses to sell his art, then good on him, its his he can do whatever he likes. However if a new kid comes along, and pops one up on ebay, he is a w**ker for doing so. I would agree with Somerset, there seems to double standards applied.

So in order to maintain consistency and not to create a "clique" - you should either tarnish everyone with the same brush or take up a different hobby, because this issue has been flogged to death, but yet its ugly head still keeps resurfacing (bit like mine).

Heres' a side story, I know a person who buys cars new from dealers in Scotland, travels then down to London, where he can sell them for a higher price - makes an absolute mint - you cant help but smile at his opportunism, and would take your hat off to him if you knew him.

LOL, I've got a mate doing the oposite, buying cars and 4X4s in the midlands and taking them up here to sell, again making a mint doing it.

Correct, and if an offer had been received and accepted from the forum, which evidently none was, then I'm sure it would have been honoured as well, unlike the initiator of this thread who (from what I have read) messed around a lot of people with his own DFace collage, including letting some believe that a deal had been done, before selling to someone else and trumpeting on here about how fantastically high the price was that he achieved.

MM also stated he was selling to make way/funds available for another piece which to date has always also been the true reason, so totally a legitimate sale, by all accounts. Ridiculous contradictory thread.

The key here is in the definition of a flipper imo.

A flipper is someone who buys a piece of art for the sole reason (and no other) but to sell it immediately for proffit.

Anyone who does this should rightfully be criticized as they have stopped a true collector purchasing the piece.

Anyone who sells to re-invest or just doesn't like a piece anymore is not a flipper. Obviously if
money is needed for an emergency then that also acceptable.

You know the flippers on the bay because they are the same sellers, selling new prints and their only interest in art is "can I make some money on this". Where as the majority of this forums member's interest in art is "do I like it / want it on my wall" and if it happens to accumulate value then thats a bonus, not a necessity.

imo MM is a serious collector and I wish I has a 1/10th of his collection.
