Favourite unaffiliated artists, by knox on Nov 1, 2007 14:39:45 GMT 1, Looks good but the whole "out of my price range" is what scares me. I know there is the ยฃ50 thread for some amazing cheapies but was wondering if there are any hidden gems that maybe don't fall into the ยฃ50 but steer clear of the thousands.

Favourite unaffiliated artists, by pezlow on Nov 1, 2007 14:50:41 GMT 1, Could be quite a long list. I won't bother with the A-list stuff because you will all know it already - Hirst, Chapman Bros, Gary Hume, Olafur Elliasson etc.
My favourite artists that are "unknown" on this forum are as follows:
Ray Richardson
An absolutely superb figurative artist. He paints some dogs (which are no my cup of tea) and then also gritty urban scenes in a cinematic style. Check out www.advancedgraphics.co.uk which has some of his screenprints.
Here are some examples of his work:
And this is mine:
I also like Susie Hamilton who is represented by Paul Stolper. Here is one of hers that I have:
And something else by her
Also just started getting in to Graham Dean as well
And I've always loved Peter Jones' monkeys. he is represented by fred-london for those interested

Favourite unaffiliated artists, by robertlondon on Nov 1, 2007 15:29:53 GMT 1, I love Gottfried Helnwein's work. I have never thought about buying any of his work as I'm am sure it's way out of my price range!
Gottfried Helnwein - I love how his work unsettles you. Makes you feel awkward, a voyeur, inhumane.
Went to an exhibition of his a couple of years ago in San Francisco. You walked into the second room and this HUGE picture stared straight back at you. Stunning. Disturbing.

Favourite unaffiliated artists, by morrissey1 on Nov 1, 2007 22:00:29 GMT 1, my favorite artist who is not connected to the "scene", is Tom Everhart. He was a friend of Charles Schulz, and is the only artist who is allowed by the Schulz estate to reproduce the Peanuts/Charlie Brown work. He does a great pop art treatment on the Peanuts crew, and I can't help but feel a little like Im back in grade 4 every time I look at his work -- I know it's going to be a lot of people cup o' teas, but worth a look.....I sold an Everhart to rangle up enough cash to buy my first Banksy...so I am thankful
that's not Everhart in pic above. He's below.
