Yeah It was nice bonus + I missed out on the Swoon print that went last night for around £350 (massive bargain) cos I was at the Maccabees gig so it put a smile back on my face! ;D

I could rub it in and say my conservation framing will cost next to nothing cos it will be done at cost by our gallery framer but that would just be unkind

Prices keep falling!, by endtimes on Oct 6, 2007 1:00:15 GMT 1, Wow, £2,000.00? It'll be along time before that sells in my opinon.
...I told you guys... ...remember all of this... ...it'll be a story to tell your grandkids...
Banksy prices went HAYWIRE this year ...but finally, at least now the idea of affording a signed Banksy is almost starting to seem plausible again. I'd give it till next year though. They'll always be expensive, but I think there's—still—a lot of hype behind Banksy prices. And yeah Mantis and some of these other guys. You probably will start losing money if you want to flip their prints...
...so what will be the next big thing now that everyone is beginning to get bored with this? hmmm....

Prices keep falling!, by Deleted on Oct 6, 2007 8:25:02 GMT 1, prices may have gone down on the secondary market, but surely everyone would expect that ?? £1605000 has just been spent on micallef prints. There is only so much money available at a given time. for those including me who didnt like the micallef laz prints and for those who missed out and stood in the cue for ages, use this time wisely and you'll reap the rewards. i am gonna try and get myself some neate.

Prices keep falling!, by cityman on Oct 6, 2007 9:20:08 GMT 1, i think the market has been flooded... neate, micallef, faile etc all in the spcae of two months. even morons to a certain extent.
we had a dip last year and then it went mental on banksy prices, i suspect the lull we're experiencing currently is because of other certain releases. it'll pick up and i think anyone bagging a signed print for £4k will be laughing in 12 months time as Banksy isn't going away!

Yeah, but you always know that there will be more prints released in the future. I told that to people months ago but still they had a 'panic' about buying a Micallef before the LA show! All the stupid hype about the LA show! People were paying $4000 for a $400 angel bomber. Now that the LA show has happened ...guess what. I saw an angel bomber sell for $1400 last week!!! And now there are and always will be another 2600 Micallef prints on the secondary market. And the next micallef show there will be another 1-2000 prints again hitting the secondary market. The next Neate show there will be another couple hundred prints hitting the market etc. It will have an effect not just now on prices but always and forever.
And I'm not saying Banksy is going to go away ...but... $10,000-20,000 USD for a signed print in editins of 100-1000. That's still VERY high by historical standards.

Prices keep falling!, by sputnikeye on Oct 6, 2007 15:36:58 GMT 1, prices have been talked about forever here. up and down and what not. I thought that they were dippin' last year and sold my bombhugger for a paltry sum and now the current price is still 3 times what I got after a so called dip. what's confusing is is that there is no pattern to it. unless, like with the Micallef's the new print runs start going into the thousands (which is crazy).

Prices keep falling!, by Deleted on Oct 6, 2007 15:51:19 GMT 1, Don't know if this helps, but when I was younger I used to collect comic books. When I first started, I only bought what I liked in terms of story line or artists (X-Men, Jim Lee, Frank Miller, etc.) But, then when the comic book market got really popular, artists were trying out gimmicks to differentiate their product. There were 3-d covers, variant covers, and even special "limited edition" versions selling at 3 - 5 times what a normal comic book cost. At the time, I thought they would make for a good investment (I wasn't old enough to trade stocks yet) so I bought all that crap. Some of them appreciated quite a bit in the short term, but I ended up buying hundreds of comics that I normally wouldn't have bought. Now they're collecting dust in a box and I"d be lucky to get list price for them. My point, is that while there are some new people to the collecting scene, we maybe close to a time where artists may try gimmicks to distinguish themselves for the sake of selling art/prints. I think that's when we'll be on the cusp of a real crash. I think what we're seeing now is an adjustment to separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of quality art.

I think what we're seeing now is an adjustment to separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of quality art. a while back i was flicking channels and came across the antiques roadshow. they were talking about how to spot things that would be collectable in the future and the guy said theres no point in collecting things that you think will become collectable/popular/valuable cos everyone will be doing the same thing and therefore these things wont end up being worth much. he said that the things that end up being really collectable are the things that noone expects.
i think this relates very well to the current art print market. in the start not many people ever expected banksy prints to be very collectable and valuable and just bought them cos they liked the images. now that they have become very collectable and valuable, everyones trying to get in on the act by buying prints from "the next big thing". therefore my opinion is that banksy prices will be sustained but many others won't.

I agree with that 100% ;D
The artists that seem to get written off by some now could end up being the most collectible later on mark my words ;D

Prices keep falling!, by bobbymeachamjr on Oct 6, 2007 16:56:44 GMT 1, in the art history books 10 years from now there might be 1 pager on the street art scene 2005-2010. It will be about banksy while micallef might get a mention. Neate possibly. There will probably be a sentence or 2 of its US counterpart so faile/swoon might get a nod. Thats it...

I guess obey could make the cut simply because of his timing but using 5 layers in Illustrator as your artwork ain't gonna cut it
