IP Tracking and Server spamming, by artcritic on Oct 18, 2007 13:37:15 GMT 1, Just spoke with Dora @ POW, according to her the site has been down for a number of upgrades, these include essential site maintenance is and the inclusion of IP tracking software. As it says on the tin, the software tracks visitor IP addresses, essentially anyone spamming the server with a site monitoring tool will be disqualified from obtaining a print. This also includes people continually refreshing the site using the F5 key!
The official response from POW reads as follows: โThe site statistics show an absurd amount of page impressions from a number of IP addresses which is having a knock on effect of slowing the site down. A number of service providers have been contacted in order that we may gain the eMail addresses of the culprits responsible in order that we can let them know. If you want a chance of being considered for a new print please refrain from constantly refreshing the page or your order WILL be cancelled.โ Doraโฆ..

IP Tracking and Server spamming, by mcnuts on Oct 18, 2007 13:40:10 GMT 1, interesting but they would have a very very hard time getting email address from ISPs with privacy laws. I mean I am sure they coudl identify the ISP but to get down to the end user? I have no doubt it can be done but look at the RIAA in the US, they had to go to court to reveal identities.

IP Tracking and Server spamming, by artcritic on Oct 18, 2007 13:43:43 GMT 1, as you say it would be hard to obtain e-mail addresses, but IP address are not a problem, all they have to do is block the IP address and you are unable to access the site at the time of the posting of the print. The message came from POW as it was given to me, I asume that their understanding of what can and cant be done is in error

IP Tracking and Server spamming, by fleepea on Oct 18, 2007 13:44:18 GMT 1, What also makes me laugh, they mention on the site, no release of prints etc... then Dora mentions if you continue to refresh you may not get a print. Well we wont if you are not releasing!! Also i work in law, and it is a breach of human rights if they try to find the info mentioned. I will take them down if tehy try and abuse a human right!!!

IP Tracking and Server spamming, by paulypaul on Oct 18, 2007 13:44:57 GMT 1, Load of bollox - ISP will only release those details after a court order. (See Pirate Bay, Kazaa, (Removed)spy etc etc)
They want to invest in a better server. Pathetic....
Slow typer - and as Mike says - most ISP for home use dynamic addresses...

IP Tracking and Server spamming, by notitle on Oct 18, 2007 13:46:24 GMT 1, so EVERYONE who wants a print is banned from getting one.
they're asking us all to pop on the site when we've received the email? hmm.... I'll take my chances with a little bit of refreshing.

Also think itยดs not real. POW could place some google ads and get some money for a new server ;D from all the page impressions.
Hm? just searched through our database *all incoming mails* and no email from POW. *and I think we have some Banksy fans on our network who press f5* *working for an ISP is sometimes really nice*

Short: Yes. Long: Follows.
POW will in fact be able to see who is hammering the site. If they log those IP addresses and match them up with the IP address you ordered your print from can get you banned/refunded if they just happen to be the same.
