Whats gonna happen in 2007?, by corblimeylimey on Jan 30, 2007 20:04:27 GMT 1, Why would POW go to NY for the ghetto? there's all the cost of flying people and cargo, hotels etc and they'd be far away from running the business back home. At the end of the day they aren't going to sell any more than they would have done in London (which is pretty much everything) in fact they may even sell less as I think more people are aware of them here than in the US.

Whats gonna happen in 2007?, by Ågent ßacardi on Jan 30, 2007 20:06:36 GMT 1, I wasn't having a dig at you - just didn't know if you were independently wealthy ;D
Haha! Well, not at the least. I had a real REAL job before, and managed to save up... but are now 80% gone because of my Banksy collection. I'm really soaking in my mother's words: "Let's see your Banksy prints pay your rent or put food in your mouth".
I guess they technically could if I sold them, but I'll be holding on to them even if I'm living in a box.
(Okay, that's a slight exaggeration, but they're not going anywhere anytime soon. )

I think that's the beautiful part right there. Less tossers and baggers, more for genuine fans! ;D
But I don't think that's true... I thought not many people would have gone to the LA show in September because Banksy is much much bigger in the UK... but clearly, I was so wrong. It would have been without the ridiculous PR they did and the whole elephant controversy... and I think if POW held SG in NY, there would be publicity too, because now lots more Americans know about Banksy... and there is the Banksy/SG connection. Wouldn't be surprised if it goes all Hollywood again.
I think POW is at their highest point right now that they could sell bottled Banksy fart if they wanted to, which would be gone in less than 15 minutes. They've gone all 'international league'.

NY in a lot of respects is a very cultured place (I live there roughly 70% of my time so it is not just speculation) and I am pretty convinced that it would be a roadblock in NY also as the art scene and especially street art is pretty strong there. Personally. I have sold a few bits of banksy stuff to people in NY and when I have met & delivered in person, they are pretty clued up. As for transporting stuff and people- it's all tax deductable, so would probably end up making them more cash by reducing the tax bill. And they practically shut down normal operations for this years ghetto anyway did they not (recalling vague message on the site that said all orders placed would not be processed until jan). After the LA show and the elephant, and the front page features on major papers over there, not to mention the TV coverage, I think you underestimate the pull it would have. Would be great to have it in NY, but then, I am very biased ;D

Whats gonna happen in 2007?, by BK83 on Jan 31, 2007 0:03:30 GMT 1, If SG were to be in NYC next year it would be absolutely outrageous. The streetart scene in NY is phenomenal, I mean thats where it all began didn't it?!! The 3 day Wooster on Spring Project in December was incredibly popular, with lines on the final day stretching around 3 full city blocks!! -- I was there and I can't tell you how many people underestimated the crowd.

Whats gonna happen in 2007?, by saltandiron on Jan 31, 2007 10:45:42 GMT 1, I don't think the idea of having SG in New York is that crazy, if they could 'break' the US then that's an enormous market. (POW is a business after all). I appreciate that Banksy is very popular over there already but this would be more about developing the POW 'brand' (people over here refer to artists being from the POW stable and if there's an artist on there they seem to have a bit more credibility).
This was the first year that SG has been such an event here in the UK and I bet a lot of the people who visited were going to see what the fuss was about. MAybe next year if they kept it in london then the novelty would have worn off for many. Move it to new york and you get to have the novelty/publicity all over again. And we get to enjoy a bit of 'treat em mean keep em keen'
Of course there's probably someone from POW reading this going 'Er, these people have no idea what they're talking about.' but I don't want to have wasted my time by deleting this, so I'll post it.

D*face, Dolk and Nick Walker Lucy Mclauchlan is Mary Sir Nicholas Serota and other 'mainstream' gallery bosses can be the inn keepers who turn them away

Whats gonna happen in 2007?, by pezlow on Jan 31, 2007 11:23:02 GMT 1, Why not have a Santas Ghetto in both New York AND london? You could have prints being released simultaneously in both New York and London. Now that really would create a global brand and generate newspaper interest.

If it's 07, then I think we're leaving it a bit late. What am I supposed to get done in 11 months!?

Ah, I thought they meant that 2006's was closing forever, not the last SG ever. Who knows. Guess we'll find out next christmas. until then I think wild speculation is the only way forward. My money is on Lodz in poland.

I think adam neate will release loads of prints, then not release any more ever again, i think banksy will take the year off but will still create more hype than anyone even though he isnt in the country to sign the prints so POW can do a release. I think POW employees will be caught up in a scandal surrounding backdoor prints and ebay
Lots of other stuff too
