my new baby..., by Zippy on Sept 11, 2007 10:41:02 GMT 1, I think its really out of order taking it. It was put on the street as it was meant to be enjoyed by all who see it. Not everyone can afford to buy the latest prints like most people on here. You have now taken away the opportunity for people to see it. Not only that, you start a thread boasting 'my new baby' . Bang out of order. Get it off your wall and back where it should be - art for the people. What you did is low, this is something I feel really strongly about. Z

I'll stop now. Z

I agree this is what make me feel like packing the whole scene in. It's now fuckin mainstream there is no radicalism left just blatant opportunism. Pisses me right off. Where has the spirit of punk gone. This is just harling back to 80's take what you can and fuck the rest.

if it will be taken anyway (or buffed in the case of paint or bombed) what is better? a wasted piece or one that is appreciated?

my new baby..., by GD303uk on Sept 11, 2007 11:04:21 GMT 1, i have seen one on brick lane , should i get a hammer and chissel and try it, lets all do it , we all love this art so where is the harm, it isnt much of a stretch of the imagination to see where this ends. you must have a reason for taking this, ie it was about to be demolished, please let there be a good explaination, and it wasnt for selfish reasons you removed it. there is a banksy by me, angle grinder and a drill should have it on the forum for the weekend

my new baby..., by Strange Al on Sept 11, 2007 11:07:39 GMT 1, Although a piece of graff being buffed or crossed out has the same end result as one that's stolen, the ethical considerations are completely different. Like others, I'm very much against street art being removed from the street by joe public (unless the artist intended for the piece to be found and taken home).
GBH - You cannot justify taking a piece simply because someone else will do so otherwise - that just perpetuates the cycle and encourages more people to do the same. Though you raise an interesting point about street works painted on private property. In that instance, I think the owner of the property has every right to remove and keep the piece (assuming that it's possible). Though that's very different to a third party removing it.
If people don't want to spend the money with Invader, buy some mosaic tiles and make your own. It's really not difficult and damn cheap to do.

my new baby..., by gbh on Sept 11, 2007 11:09:58 GMT 1, think we need to start living in the real world people. if someone who appreciates the work takes it, I'd prefer that over a bagger any day. end result, in this day and age and where this is all going, IT WILL GET TAKEN REGARDLESS.
on another note, I find this pot calling the kettle black conversation great. There is honour amongst theives. After all, the works (9 times out of 10) are not legally placed anyway in the first place. Kinda opens the door....that leads to the slippery slope...

i don't understand the whole ' it's okay for one person to take but not another'...are there special badges for certain people saying ' not a bagger'..that's just irrelevant...and what's legality got to do with anything? That's the very essense of the scene or at least it was...if street art was meant for a person's home surely that's what it would of been created to do in the first place..i.e. put on a canvas or a poster..not a brick wall

I agree very much so with that whole sentiment, but one day a few years back I woke up and took a look around me at the world and decided to start living in reality, not in the wonderful disneyland that many feel will be reached one day.
The cycles are fully perpetuated already, good luck stopping them.
