Ebay knowledge needed..., by brainthedog on Sept 6, 2007 18:07:52 GMT 1, Your first mistake was paying by check. I know everyone has a bad opinion about it, but PayPal is designed to protect the buyer. You can freeze his/her account by simply registering a complaint. But, that doesn't help you.
What I suggest doing is messaging the seller in the eBay messaging system that the check cleared and if he can provide a status on shipping. Do it in a positive way otherwise you run the risk of pissing him off. It's important you do this in eBay's messaging system as in the event you need to pursue this guy, eBay can assist and will need records of communication. The only thing they can do unfortunately is close their account. and, a feedback score of 7 is worth less than 220GBP unfortunately so he could very well run.
+1 me if you think this helped as i need to get out of negative respect land!

Ebay knowledge needed..., by dave313perry on Sept 6, 2007 19:38:14 GMT 1, cheers guys much appreciated time and help - Id +1 you all if i could!!!
just phoned the geezer via the mobile number that was set on his contact details
Got a quivering voice that assured me the cheque had only just cleared, and it will be with me tomorrow. Dont think he realised i could get his info.
Plus i sent a cheque to an address obviously used by him so seems a little daft as he doesnt know who he is dealing with.
If he does this for a living then its a matter of time before someone withtracts a couple of limbs from him! infact i shall actually be paying him a visit with a couple of friends, most likely on the weekend if it doesnt turn up, but the less i say about that the better for legal reasons!!!
cheers guys - il keep you informed

Ebay knowledge needed..., by artfortruth on Sept 6, 2007 19:45:36 GMT 1, Ok HOLD UP.
First off, I've been an eBayer for 7+ years and I'm a Power Seller.
The very first thing you should do is put a block on the check. (Your bank may charge for this service), that way he can't cash it. If it is already cashed you could handle it through your bank and explain the fraudulent nature of the transaction. I think it's called "Disputing a transaction".
The second thing I would do is what thedog mentioned. You MUST gather PROOF of communication attempts. This means you'll need email headers if done that way or simply use the eBay messaging system. Without proof of communication attempts you will get nowhere with my next advice.
Third, File a Claim through the eBay system. I believe it's called "item not received dispute". Follow the instructions they give you when doing this process.
Fourth, they will most likely advise you to get Square Trade involved (third party ebay dispute handler). This service costs about 25$ if I remember correctly. This service is highly recommended for large transactions like yours and they will definitely get your money back if all the above fails. It will also crush his reputation and ability to use eBay in the future.
Other things you should do after all this is gather as much personal information as you can on the seller. eBay requires a valid credit card or bank account number and phone number before you can create a sellers account. THey have this on record and it can be obtained if requested. Only buyers from that seller can request the info. Once you get it, keep calling him or visit if possible to get it resolved.
and of course, negative that mother fucker after it's all done. don't do it until it's over with though.and give him 0 stars. I'm sure he'll lose his account over this.
Best advice I can give: DO ALL THIS ASAP, time is of the essence with stuff like this.
Good luck my friend. I hope all goes well. I'd never play you like that ;-)
BTW, What did you buy?

Ebay knowledge needed..., by dave313perry on Sept 6, 2007 20:25:15 GMT 1, Soon find out! anyone can get a pic of a ps3 with a game and a controller so who knows - the listing was done poorly and put in the wrong category and went for about 100 cheaper than its value so i think the seller has been trying not to sell it as he knows he can get more. although wouldnt have thought he would cash the cheque then?
time will tell! fingers crossed because i really want to get it and play it!!!

Ebay knowledge needed..., by rob123rob on Sept 6, 2007 20:55:59 GMT 1, Your first mistake was paying by check.
I will give you a +, as someone negged me because I started a thread on how boring Banksy's website is, so maybe this will even things out.

Ebay knowledge needed..., by discoduster on Sept 16, 2007 12:45:21 GMT 1, I've never ripped anyone off in my life but a few months ago I sold a brand new upgrade phone on ebay.
Auction ends and won by bidder with zero feedback. I give him benefit of the doubt and progress through the channels, invoice, email seller, reminder, etc.
I give after about 2 weeks and relisted it where it was purchased and paid for on a Buy It Now by another ebayer.
A week later I get a payment through PayPal for the original auction. I emailed the bidder to inform him that as I hadn't heared from him I'd resold it. He emailed me being abusive calling me an idiot etc.
So I thought Feck him, if he wants to play like that he can chase me through PayPal for the money which I'll happily return knowing that I would have caused him a bit more inconvienience than he caused me.
I'm still waiting for the p*ick to work out how to do that.

Phone him again, and advise him that if its not sorted in 24 hours, you are going to report him to the police for Fraud. If you dont get anywhere in that time, then report him to the Police, and contact your bank and explain whats happened and that it is fraudulent, and can the funds be reimbursed?
