Where would you put your money?, by sham69 on Sept 12, 2007 15:04:18 GMT 1, No. Only if you're names Cherrypicker. I'm just asking him to cut the guy some slack. I don't think the posts just about the money.
If the thread had been worded 'which artists are any good right now' as opposed to 'where would you put your money' it could have been better.

Where would you put your money?, by carlito on Sept 12, 2007 15:31:42 GMT 1, not bitching at anyone..but just to point out when we start talking about these kind of sums of money..it's pretty much the antithesis of what the street art scene is about i.e. a movement for everyone not for the rich few

Where would you put your money?, by pezlow on Sept 12, 2007 15:50:50 GMT 1, I agree. The most I have ever spent on an art work is £900 for my adam neate print. I like to think of myself as having a pretty well paid job etc but this game is getting too rich for my blood.

See your point, but at this price you're talking originals and normally from source, its the artists setting these prices.

I'm drooling at the sheer number of Hutch originals and prints that could be gotten with that amount of money.

Where would you put your money?, by nickc on Sept 12, 2007 17:03:13 GMT 1, Don't apologise. You have asked a serious question. It's only that a few people have taken umbrage at the sum of money. If you had asked people what to spend a grand on that you had been left in a will by your grandmother then the response would have been totally different. The facts are plain to see; you have some money that you have earnt and you'd like to spend it on some quality art. You could have walked in to a gallery off Bond St and splashed it on one piece that would have had an over-inflated price tag and would have been there just for show. You are actually interested in the contemporary art scene which is what this forum is here to discuss. On one of these threads someone else is getting praised to the heavens for their new, original Neate. You just have the audacity to want to spend similar money on one (or maybe many) similar pieces. These threads should be open to anyone interested in the scene and willing to spend their money on the artists we all love.

not dissing you so no need for the apology, there's plenty of others here who splash the cash, and I'm guilty of it too...i just feel jaded/saddened by how this whole scene is driven by the numbers..the excitement I've felt recently over the new Banksys has made me remember what it's all about for me...I didn't get into this for an offshoot of the art scene i got into this because it as a big v to all the fecking patronizing upper class baloney the art scene spews!
(and breath)
(and take your medication carlito..and leave quietly)

Its interesting, I've notice a big trend recently moving away from the happy concept of 'affordable art' to sticking a much larger price tag on with the defence that its to stop the 'flippers'.
This new thinking for me, is like throwing the baby out with the bath water. You might be stopping the flippers but you're also only allowing your art available to the rich.

Where would you put your money?, by cashman on Sept 12, 2007 20:15:45 GMT 1, I think people might be taking this thread a little too serious, its a hypophetical question. When me n my mates used to sit around getting stoned we'd always talk about winning the lottery n spending the money.
My point is, cant we have just have fun with a thread rather than getting uptight with the state of the graff scene

Where would you put your money?, by trebor on Sept 12, 2007 20:51:17 GMT 1, If you want to make money?
Hirst prints some older ones have dropped in price a little, and the white cube Skull prints are ok. Banksy Signed prints only. Takashi Murakami. Micallef.
None of these are a risk and you'l see a good return in 5 years.
