Sepia Morons, by smartussi on Mar 30, 2007 18:58:21 GMT 1, So this is the deal....
Signed Banksy for Signed Banksy.
I was able to get confirmation on a Signed Sepia Morons I would be willing to trade the Sepia for one of the following signed Banksy prints (List is in my preferential order)
-CND Soldiers -I Fought The Law -Girl With Red Balloon (Is this in print form?) -Love is in the Air -Napalm -Golf Sale
If you have other things to offer I am open to offers, but keep in mind I bought this because I like and want it, I just like and want these other prints more.
I will post an update when the print actually arrives here in the USA
Thanks!

I know that a trade for one of these straight up may not be enough...I would be willing to add to my offer if needed.

You're kidding right??? If you were buying your list off Ebay a Signed GWB would probably set you back 7-8K GBP, most others would be around 4-5K GBP.

Your pissed for no reason bro....
Didn't you read the part that I wrote stating that I did in fact buy this because I like and want it? I just thought that I would like one of these other older ones more and if someone had one of them and wanted to change it up we could do a trade....
...it's not like i bought this to put on ebay
I also understand these older prints are probably worth more than this one, that is fine, that is why I put my second post stating that I could add cash or other prints to even the deal out.
peace.

I didn't get a print on Thursday but if I did I'd probably try and "use" it to get something similar that I really like, as smartussi has. Ultimately both parties would of benefited - I'd be very happy with my "ideal" print and the other person would of gained a Moron.

I'm not a fan of your logic. I would prefer that someone who wanted it, got it...for a fair price....rather than you bag it because you could..not because you like it, make a score and then trade up to something that does tickle your fancy. you are just encouraging and prolonging the cycle.

Sepia Morons, by Strange Al on Mar 31, 2007 10:00:18 GMT 1, Smartussi - your rather speculative original post has obviously got a few people's backs up.
Bad timing mate; particularly, given that you haven't even seen the print in the flesh yet. Though, I really don't blame you for offering swaps. I'm guessing most of us desire older Banksy's which are now unfortunately well beyond our means. My dreams of a signed Laugh Now or BME are very much that - dreams. Given that it's unlikely that I'll win the lottery and because I can't see the Banksy market collapsing anytime soon, swapping is the only hope.
The sepia morons is an awesome piece in the current context. It's very now and I'd love one for my wall, but I don't think it's one of the future "classics". A few years down the line, I don't see it achieving the same sort of values as the prints you've listed - most of which I think have a more timeless appeal. Therefore, I think you'll need to add a fair bit of cash.
Though, if you don't ask you don't get. Good luck.

Have to agree with the strategy of trying to buy one of the series on its release. Each release seems to be mad. If you are lucky enough to get one, then you may be able to swap it for another in the run. I may have managed to get a print (though until it is in my hands, I won't count it). However, I would trade it for another in the LA series: a trollies, applause, or festival. I'm sure some people like the morons over others but with how crazy it is, in order to trade you gotta have something.
On an aside, if I did get my morons, it means I will need to sell my unsigned applause. I'll need to check with PoW first to make sure they don't consider that "flipping" but will offer it up here below ebay value. Of anyone is interested, send me a pm though, like I said, I do have to wait for my morons to show!
As for offering a swap, I think its too early to offer a swap, you dont have the print I agree with the spirit and, if people like the image, the value shouldn't matter as much. But, its poor form to offer it up without the print in hand imho.
As for the youtube fire idea. I like it. If i was a wanker banker and could afford to do some trick like that, I'd do it. I think it gets to the core of the message of the print.

Sepia Morons, by dkla on Mar 31, 2007 14:38:30 GMT 1, I respectfully disagree with your assessment on the future relevance of the Morons image. Whether Banksy's star continues to rise or it falls off the end of a cliff, it's the built in bitter irony of the message in Morons that will, in my opinion, actually make it a classic. With the Morons image, our man B has tapped into a timeless universal human truth that's just blatantly honest. It actually makes me think of another timeless artist: Warhol (when he would day, in interviews, "it's easy...I like to copy...it gives me something to do...my assistants help me...etc.")....

Sepia Morons, by smartussi on Mar 31, 2007 16:45:34 GMT 1, Great opinions people, I really enjoy reading peoples differing feelings on this
For those of you that I offended by offering this up so early, I applogize.
It was not my intention to try and rip anyone off, or try and jip anyone out of an older print for one that they found to be less desirable.
If I don't get a trade for one of these older prints that I would like, I am definatly framing this puppy up for the long haul.

Big can of worms especially when the prints have still not been sent out and plently people on here still unhappy they did not get one. i would have let the dust settle before asking for trades.

Sepia Morons, by graeme501 on Apr 1, 2007 10:19:13 GMT 1, i think ive been mis-understood, i got one but obviously im keeping it
i was just stating if u want a banksy, and if this was ur first, but prefered a diff print - say grannies or applause, then i think it would be ok 2 swap with someone hoo was up for it, then you have the print you like and the other person has the print that they didnt manage to get
also i was talking about unsigned prints, as they are considerably less valueable than the signed ones
