Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by corblimeylimey on Apr 12, 2007 15:50:05 GMT 1, disagree completely blimey. International laws and ebay policy clearly state that a bid is a contractual obligation. Therefore "auction wrecking" is against the law, never mind sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. Selling a print that is not in your hands is a bit risky, and a bit rude, but it is completely legal so long as a refund is issued if for some reason the print does not arrive as expected, and the auction language clearly states that the print is not yet in hand. If you don't like the idea of bidding on a print that hasn't been secured by the seller yet then just don't bid, and let the morons who are willing to get into a bidding war over an opportunity hash it out on their own. the "auction wreckers" that put high bids on non-BIN items only serve to drive prices up to the maximum anyhow. Basically, it comes down to the fact that fake bids are an outright lie, while pre-listings, although definitely weasely, are honest.
The law also says you can't spray paint property that's not yours, you can't smoke dope, drive at over 70 mph, or even be drunk on Licensed Premises.
Pre-listing might be honest, who knows, no photographic evidence of the item for sale, it might not arrive from POW, in fact it could be a total scam.
The main point is don't sell what you haven't got. Talking about sticking noses in things, what about rubbing peoples noses in it? Against the wishes of POW people are buying stuff they don't want or have any interest in, just to sell on, even before they've got it, for not just a few quid more than they paid for it but for over ยฃ2000 more.
This is a Banksy forum, Banksy has kept the prices low for our benefit, can't people understand this behaviour does upset people here.

Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by corblimeylimey on Apr 12, 2007 16:36:15 GMT 1, There's nothing anybody can do about it, and it will go on, I don't like though.
It's really up to the seller to prove they've got what they're selling, and I just don't like the nasty side of human nature, the greed, it applies to all sorts of things not just Banksy prints.
Imagine going to the supermarket and as you're just reaching out for the last pint of milk someone snatching it first and then telling you they're vegan and don't drink milk and they aren't interested in it, but they'll sell it to you for ยฃ10. Just because this business (the buying and selling) is all done over the web and not face to face doesn't make it any more pleasant.

Its not just done all over the web, it's done all over the world. millions of us are working for money-hungry corporations basically trying to sell stuff to people who don't really need it for a the highest price possible. people get ripped off everyday, just walk into tescos for that last pint of milk you were talking about and you will end up walking out with 96 bags of crisps, six bottles of coke, a pack of 700 clothes pegs and 16 yoghurts just because they were buy one get one free. everybody's getting skanked day in day out.
if someone said to me "I have a large brown peice of paper it is worth three grand, you can have it for ยฃ657" I'd bite their arm off and so would 99% of people. i'm sorry but I don't care about barry from stoke-on-trent who missed the boat. hard luck. I could provide a lot of fun for my family for ยฃ3000.

That's exactly why the most greedy like to sell before they've even got it, people stupid enough to bid aren't going to like the long wait before their seller has it, and in the meantime will see plenty more come and go for less than they paid. It really does paint a pretty picture all round doesn't it.

Of course one day I might sell my Banksy's and I'll sell for the going rate, I've said it before and here it is again, it's doing the whole thing just for the quick profit immediately, If you've received the art that you wanted but after you've thought about it then decide it's not for you, fair enough, (I've done that)
Obviously that's not what's going on here.

Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by tomhills1 on Apr 12, 2007 17:25:08 GMT 1, i think this whole debate shows the cancerous nature of carpet-bagging. one person does it and tells their mates, they do the same etc, etc and before you know it, it's impossible to choose a print - it becomes a free-for-all. it also spreads this insidious nature of, if you can't beat them join them, or, well everyone's doing it so i might as well.
corblimey is spot on when he says, this is not what banksy's art represents. sadly bombhugger is right too when he says, that this is how it is and that the sums of money we're talking now are so phenomonal that this behaviour is to be expected.
little chance of things changing and for me, we are well past the point of no return.
prints for the man on the street? you'll be lucky.

btw, if i was ever lucky enough to get a signed banksy I would keep it because i'm a 'fan' i'm just pointing out that if I wasn't a fan I wouldn't think twice about buying to sell it at such a profit. i can understand why people do it and I do see too much difference between this and working for HSBC, tescos or whatever. its ugly and greedy but then the human race is.

CBL, it's a bit like standing on the beach trying to push the tide back. i think the support factor could go both ways, why release a sepia version in a signed edition only if you didn't want it to be eliteist? it's easy to say his art is for the everyman but there are serious contradictions in the way the sale is dealt with. make your art accessable to the majority and they will support you all the way, not some wanky server that always crashes, cloak and dagger info on releases and the majority of prints goin up at 2am for the minority to take rich pickings. plus those that have widgets and gadgets set-up for a head start, leave your everyman lagging behind somewhat, no?

Yeah, your right I was talking crap sorry
I guess what I meant was We can try to change things but will it actually make any difference? If people try to stop these people selling those "Morons" before they even have them, will it stop the massive demand for the next print? dunt think so so whats the point? all that happens is we get all uptight and pissed off with no real result at the end of it.
I think I made more sense that time (fingers crossed) ;D

Everyone has to do what they can, lots of people doing what they can WILL make a difference, you can't stop tides or move mountains but you can do your bit.
Personally I'm a vegetarian, 1 person doesn't make much difference, but in the 25 years I've been vegetarian the percentage of people who are has grown and has forced supermarkets and even Mc Donalds to change their ways.

In a lifetime the average meat eater will consume 36 pigs, 36 sheep and 750 chickens and turkeys.

Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by corblimeylimey on Apr 12, 2007 18:23:31 GMT 1, Everyone has to do what they can, lots of people doing what they can WILL make a difference, you can't stop tides or move mountains but you can do your bit. Personally I'm a vegetarian, 1 person doesn't make much difference, but in the 25 years I've been vegetarian the percentage of people who are has grown and has forced supermarkets and even Mc Donalds to change their ways. i don't eat meat either but one person does make a difference.... In a lifetime the average meat eater will consume 36 pigs, 36 sheep and 750 chickens and turkeys.
