Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by stylus on Apr 9, 2007 16:23:34 GMT 1, Either that, or they're using false id's to place bids - pulling the bidding upwards - then retracting at the last minute. Looks a bit suspect to me...

how much? i had an argument with the wife the other day saying that if i ever bought another signed, even for investment purposes, it would never be for me to sell it - unless the house was gonna get repo'd or something.
the baggers get a lot of stick, but they're not as clever as they think. in time they could stand to make so much more? i do worry that all the ones on the bay being re-sold are being bought by galleries who will ony inflate the market as time goes on. not bad if you are in possesion of a signed print but starts to make the whole thing about money and not art
i say buy what you like, live with it, then let your kids piss it up the wall.
in the words of george best: "i'm going to spend my money on booze and fast women. the rest i'm going to squander" a mantra for the little ones maybe?

Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by romanywg on Apr 9, 2007 16:29:27 GMT 1, It could have been that the second highest bidder put in bid far higher than they wanted to pay, say ยฃ5,000 just to see what the highest bidder was going up to. The bid would have then gone to just more than the first bidder, in this case ยฃ3200 and then the second bidder would pull out through the ebay wrong bid link and it would go back to how it was pre his last bid. Does that make sense? I put in a bid far too high on something, added a nought by mistake, then was able to retract bid before the end of auction but at the same time saw what the highest bidder was going up to.

I think i'm right in saying you cannot retract a bid under 12 hours of the auction ending, this may of changed, but as far as i know the only person who has the the power to withdraw a bid in the dying hours/minutes is the seller.

Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by saajid22 on Apr 9, 2007 22:30:44 GMT 1, with all the people on this forum doing their best to catch the flippers at it and report them to pow, i can understand people cancelling bids. if you go and look at the bid history on this auction you'll see there are lots of cancelled bids and a retraction or 2 to boot. people from ths forum have been buying items via buy it now and not paying and generally causing lots of mayhem. i personally don't agree with disruption of auctions, we don't know the circumstances of the people selling, people can have really hard lives. however i can understand people being angry at not getting a morons and then a flipper flipping. look forward to posting soon.

I agree disruption to auctions is wrong but...now knowing circumstances Is not an argument, Im sure If they were that hard up and needed the cash They wouldnt be able to afford the ยฃ750 outlay for the print first off. Whats more than likely with that auction is that the seller has shill bid and bottled it incase he won it himself incurring lots of hefty charges.

Agree for most part except that their motives is clearly to make a healthy profit, and there is nothing wrong with that. On the other end if that was not the case, as buying a good from the web, they are entitled to send it back within 7 days. But of course they will not

Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by ABC on Apr 10, 2007 8:27:45 GMT 1, Thats all it is, speculation, but you dont see this many bids etc getting cancelled on other items listed as much as I do with all these big money prints. Its easy to get a friend to up the bidding (Shill) but its harder to retract it and make it look legit. Lets be honest how many people stick a bid in that is too high? Not many I suppose as it gives you two warnings before you submit it.

Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by saajid22 on Apr 10, 2007 9:33:25 GMT 1, your right about lots of speculating going on. however members of this forum have admitted to disrupting auctions by placing high bids and buying and not paying using the buy it now feature. these thing are facts. it isn't for me to make rules of this forum, but if it were, i would give the postee a final warning that that sort of behavior will not be tolerated on this forum. it is just pure jealouy.
POW say they don't want people flipping the prints over, but they know that the more people pay for these prints on ebay, the more free advertising for thier site. people then buy things from pow that they wouldn't normally. the Beautiful losers prints are a fine example. these pints are still available at $250. from the official website. much cheeper than on pow. pow must love selling stuff which no-one else can.

saajid22 before you start telling of the wrongs of bidding with no intent of buying, what about selling something you haven't even got.

In this free world it's also O.K. for people to bid and not to pay if they so wish, it's up to them, just as much as it's O.K. to sell something you haven't got or bid on something that's possibly not actually for sale.

Banksy Sepia! Wha the Fuck!!!! , by goombagoomba on Apr 12, 2007 14:52:14 GMT 1, disagree completely blimey. International laws and ebay policy clearly state that a bid is a contractual obligation. Therefore "auction wrecking" is against the law, never mind sticking your nose where it doesn't belong.
Selling a print that is not in your hands is a bit risky, and a bit rude, but it is completely legal so long as a refund is issued if for some reason the print does not arrive as expected, and the auction language clearly states that the print is not yet in hand.
If you don't like the idea of bidding on a print that hasn't been secured by the seller yet then just don't bid, and let the morons who are willing to get into a bidding war over an opportunity hash it out on their own. the "auction wreckers" that put high bids on non-BIN items only serve to drive prices up to the maximum anyhow.
Basically, it comes down to the fact that fake bids are an outright lie, while pre-listings, although definitely weasely, are honest.
