street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by crazyarsemother on Jul 30, 2008 12:14:45 GMT 1, I was out last night with a couple of Jesus Heads and unfortunately saw someone get stabbed about 30 metres away from were I was working.
I was pretty grim stuff.
I wondered if anyone else had any similar experiences or advice or such like?

I too had some pretty strange experiances, strange people roam the streets at night on weekdays, but never a stabbing .
bobby, yes cartrain, the forum gave him a rough time cause he didnt want to go to the police.

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by jusdeep on Jul 30, 2008 13:57:35 GMT 1, As others have said previously, I hope you reported it to the police. I have been on both ends of the stick, seeing someone get stabbed and being stabbed myself about 5 years ago now (luckily for me nothing too serious). To cut a long story short I was literally 100 yards from my house when a guy shoulder barged me, I turned round to confront him and he lunged towards me (unprovoked I might add and this wasn't a mugging or retaliation for anything I had done). All I felt was a small pin p*ick in my chest and thought nothing of it as I hadn't seen a blade. Walked nearer my house and could feel (what I shortly after) realised was blood poring down my chest. Called an ambulance and spent the night in hospital with a suspected punctured lung. As you can imagine I was quite shook up by this and was for some time after. I am now a lot more aware of what's going on around me and always stay out of impending danger whenever possible. Just goes to show you can never be too careful.

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by jusdeep on Jul 30, 2008 14:11:11 GMT 1, I'm fine now thanks, I did however find out from the CID that the exact same thing happened a couple of other times in the area, but never found out if the kid got caught. I hope he gets what he deserves. I lived on Coldharbour Lane (Brixton) for several years and witnessed several shootings/knifings and similarly in Peckham. Also found a homeless guy unconcious outside my flat once in Dulwich, who had been badly beaten and found out from the police he died shortly after. Very sad. I can't wait to see what the goverment does to combat the recent upsurge in knife/gun crime.

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by Replete on Jul 30, 2008 14:27:26 GMT 1, I've been in all sorts of scrapes as i live in the poorest part of leeds and spend hours on end hanging out in all manner of dodgy areas and death trap factories.
The worst two hapened a few years ago when some crazy ass crackhead ambushed me walking near my home after coming back from painting. He just jumped out of the shadows eyes full of burning crazy hate he took a skull shattering blow at my head with a metal bar possibly a pogo stick! which somehow I ducked and turned on my heels and fled down the street. I was pretty drunk at the time and I thought the whole situation hilarious so as I sped off like a gazelle from a lion I shouted at him "you aint catchin me now mother f**ker" which riled him enough to through the bar at me hitting me in my elbow (that I'd broken a few weeks previously showing off to girls on my skateboard) which hurt like a bugger but that was my only injury as I left him in my dust. He didnt even say a word or demand money during the attack.
Police were useless and made little effort to catch the guy and the was promptly closed and forgotten.
The 2nd and a lot more disturbing incident took place while I was putting stickers up in a central leeds shopping street during the daytime around 2pm in the afternoon.
I walked past a bunch of around 15 or so, 16 to 20 year old lads sat around the end of the street and one of them without any provocation just ran up behind me and punched me in the back of the neck. I turned round to fight back and was rushed by around ten of the lads who punched me to the floor and proceeded to kick me all over. I managed to get up and fight a few off and proceeded to run off but they knocked me over and pushed me in front of a bus which stopped just in time. I scraped myself up and ran into my mates graf store in the leeds corn exchange and I called the cops. Apparently it was a happy slapping as two girls in the group were filming it on their mobile phones and they'd been doing happy slaps earlier on in the day.
Again the cops turned up and did f**k all and were more interested in talking to each other about their weekend antics then catching these c**ts and I had to limp down to the police station off my own back and make a report the case which was dropped after two days as the 10+ cctv cameras located on this busy shopping street didnt catch anything and the police couldnt be arsed to investigate it further.
That really pissed me off mightily but luckily I managed to get away with a few cuts and bruises and a few broken ribs. I made it a point though to walk down the same street a few days later as I'd be damned if a few tracksuited t**ts will scare me from living my life!

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by origo on Jul 30, 2008 14:44:06 GMT 1, Ugly reading, I god damn hate knifes!
I live in Copenhagen and it has always been a very nice city to live in, that has changed over the last couple of years however. Last an 18 year old kid was stabbed to death because of some retards wanted his hat and he didnยดt wanna give it to them. He was on his way home from celebrating that he just finished high school.
Result was that the poor kid got stabbed 3 times in the chest, what a waste of life and dreams.
I really donยดt get this meaningless violence, I thought Iยดd never say what my old man has been saying the last decade or so, but thereยดs a tendency that violence is increasing all over the world and I think we havenยดt seen the worst yet.

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by jusdeep on Jul 30, 2008 14:51:38 GMT 1, In my opinion this type of crime is getting younger and younger and more brazen as with Replete's story. The sad thing is - if it was to happen to you and you were to punch one of the kids, you'd be the one getting nicked by the rozzers - where's the justice in that?

Obviously it's a horrible ordeal you went through Replete, but I have to say that at least it makes a funny anecdote!! - Reading that nearly made me splurt tea all over my work monitor!!
reminded me of this

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by Replete on Jul 30, 2008 15:45:50 GMT 1, He'd probably been playing pocket billiards in his 3 stripe army trackie bottoms tucked into his socks.
This reminds me of a horrendous crime last year where a young guy I knew who was a graf writer who painted a lot of trains in liverpool was riding back from painting on his bmx. Two lads knocked him off his bike with a plank breaking his neck and killing him. Then they proceeded to pour his graf paint from his backpack all over his dead body.
Now that's f**ked up!!!
They were never caught and it never really was reported much as it didnt involve a gun or knife.
RIP Haro

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by crazyarsemother on Jul 30, 2008 15:46:16 GMT 1, blimey some of these stories are awful. Especially Jusdeep and Replete's. glad your both okay. My girlfriend is a surgeon and I know the fine line between walk again stabbing and fatal stabbing. I live in Nottingham on the border of Radford for one more day - then manchester (- errr frying pan / fire). This was not far at all from the flat. I did call the police straight away. The guy dissappeared. Don't want to go into it too much really.
I just thought this morning that loads of people on this forum must have experience similar things because of the nature of the practisce. I am not stupid and know that hanging around dark alleys in rough areas is not Pimms O'clock but its still pretty shocking and I have never felt really threathened like that before.

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by daley on Jul 30, 2008 21:29:42 GMT 1, Reading these stories reminds me how much I really don't miss being a teenager. Being a punk in a narrow minded small northern town meant I was hit with every form of flying missile possible! Hard and soft, including an apple from a speeding car. Ouch. I've been hit with lumps of wood, threatened with knives and abused by the police. The list is endless. Some young people just don't get any respect.

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by origo on Aug 10, 2008 18:46:28 GMT 1, There has been alot of focus on violence here in Copenhagen where I live over the last few days, a 16 year old kid beated a 48 year old man to death after 20 minutes of torture. After beating the man to death he dragged the body to the nearest light, just so that he could film his victim and show it to his friends the following night. Is this the new trend in happy slapping?!
He got his penalty yesterday, the highest court here in Denmark gave that little son of a bitch 4 years, and a fine of 12.5k which goes to the family leaving the wife and the poor manยดs two kids in deep frustration.
The explanation for this ridicilous penalty was that the court didnยดt believe that the 16 years oldยดs intentions was to kill the man. Why torture a man for 20 minutes and then drag him so you can film your "result" better, if a regular beating up was the intention?
This is beyond me and sends the wrong signal, I am once again horrified by the age and the character of the violence being executed by these phychos out there.

street artist - a dangerous occupation?, by Ged on Aug 10, 2008 19:19:23 GMT 1, Some of these stories really do make for sick reading.
I'm quite lucky in that where I live attacks are quite rare but when I hit the streets in neighbouring towns I generally go with a fellow bomber. Safety in numbers and all that.
Not had any problems up to now apart from the occasional late night reveler and of course the rozzers (I love that word.....rozzers, makes me laugh every time I hear/say it)
