Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by CR on Nov 6, 2006 21:49:10 GMT 1, hi,
I'm thinking of visiting london this month for one day, arriving at kings cross in the morning.
I was wandering if anyone could give me some advice on where to visit - good graffiti sites, banksy works esp, good art galleries or modern museums.
any advice would be great.
thanx

It's also on the South Bank, so there's a pretty good chance you'll see some good graff on the way there, although I think most of, if not all, the Banksys are gone now

Agreed! When I was in London, I thought it was just another ferris-wheel type thing. But went on it and it was quite spectacular, especially as it had just started getting dark. The only thing I thought was really stupid was how they kept referring to the rides as 'flights'. I know it's British Airways and all, but still... it's dumb. ;D

At the moment they are still just about affordable, but I reckon they'll leave it another 4 years or so and end up buying something for ยฃ1m.

They also said that there might be one or two pieces in the Wallinger exhibition that were original, whether they are the teddy bears or the two Banksy bits I suppose we'll just have to guess!

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by ejvaze on Feb 21, 2008 19:13:40 GMT 1, OK so it may not be street art but it was as revolutionary and even more controversial than street art was in it's day in the art world.
Tate Modern 21st February to 26th May Duchamp, Man Ray, Picabia
Three friends who together helped create Dada movements in NY and Paris. They shared an irreverent and anarchistic attitude towards life and art and their pioneering ideas about art continue to reverberate to this day.
I went to a PV last night and thought this a Very Good Exhibition. Three great artists.
In the first room as you enter there are 2 small mirrors framed along with some portraits One mirror signed by Duchamp, he is reported as saying as he sighed it 'I am signing ready made portraits', it made me laugh out loud.
And for those worried about Neate painting on card well don't be Picabia was doing it back in 1921 and the painting Astralabe still looks good today.
Painting on found objects and using recycled materials they were doing it way back then in the early 1900s ...nothings new.
Love Man Ray's motto at the end of his life 'The least possible effort for the greatest possible result' Remind you of anyone?
A really good exhibition worth seeing

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by ejvaze on Feb 21, 2008 20:24:08 GMT 1, This exhibition has photos film drawings sculpture and paintings by all three artists side by side and is really good. You can see the influence they have had on the art that followed even on street art. Loved the graphics work they did and was amused at Duchamps obsession with changing his identity even cross dressing. Man Ray dressed as an Egyptian.
Some of the photographic pieces were so tiny the size of the little Slinkachu picture which Bigman gave me at the BRP and so well framed, gave me an idea on how to frame my little picture..
One piece reminded me of Faile a collage of many different layers that looked weathered and like a street piece. The exhibition shows how the three friends ideas, interests and jokes effected each others work throughout their lives and encouraged each to progress.
I have seen Man Rays work before but never the three artists works together. In fact I had never seen Picabia's work in the flesh before and was really drawn to it.
