I thinks it's actually 'illegal' on ebay and they often remove listings like that.

I'm also a big Jimmy cauty fan and sellers often add 'banksy, hirst....' etc etc on item listings. If I've bid on an item I often get messages from ebay saying the listing has been taken of as it breaches policy (title spamming).....

And yeah, the soup can posters and "Cut it Out" pisses me off too. "Pictures of Walls" too, which goes for only £5 on POW. And oh, how about this new one from Peg Entwistle:

It's basically the Kissing Coppers image with the words "Hanky Panky" put on. Listing reads: "For Sale - This very Banksy inspired print". It wasn't "inspired", it was COPIED! All this person did was add the words!!

But still, it's sad whenever someone is gypped by some con person. And in Banksy's name, no less!! I wish there were some way we could report bogus listings to eBay and subsequently have them removed. (wait, is there?)

Hello, I have sold quite a few Cut It Out's, Banging Your Head Against A Brick Wall and Existencilism books on eBay (along with a couple of Soup Can prints and some limited edition prints).

I feel the same way as many of you in some respects, should I 'profit' of someone I really do admire like this? - The way I look at it is; if they knew Banksy and his works they would be fully aware that POW sell these books and prints for a lot less - I get a few questions asking 'am I taking the piss' - NO, Art is a very profitable business - POW makes a fortune, Laz makes a fortune and Banksy - well he f*cked off to America.

I have been a Banksy fan for about 3 years now I own about 7 prints - none of which I would sell (unless I needed to). I only buy and sell prints from POW so I can buy even more for myself.


Hope I havn't ranted too long or pissed to many people off (some good posts on these forums) - And back to your origional post I have used 'Like Banksy' and 'Banksy stablemate on POW'...

- c'mon how many of you, if in LA would buy a print you didn't like? - just because it was a Banksy or because you knew it was a safe investment.

I never buy prints I don't like and I would never sell anyone something that I did not believe was worth the price tag placed on it.

I used to sell CDs on ebay and then buy from Amazon and have Amazon deliver them direct to the winning punter. I always thought I was taking the p**s, but nobody complained.

I don't think your doing anything wrong. Supply and demand. Put Banksy into google and POW come up straight away.

Personally, what I can't stand are people who call themselves 'fans' and sell everything Banksy they've got for cold hard cash. Basically, they're ONLY into Banksy for the money. If you're a Banksy fan and you've got many of his works, and maybe you discover you don't like a print so much, then it's perfectly fine to sell it. You use the money to perhaps procure other Banksy works.

But there's quite a lot of people out there (I met them during the LA show) who have never even heard of Banksy before the whole "Cruelty to Elephants" fiasco. They show up, they buy the prints, and not even 8 hours later, they put it on eBay. What they've done is taken opportunities away from other true Banksy fans, and to me, it's practically a crime against humanity. They basically make use of Banksy's fame for their own profit. That's not really profiting off art... that's profiting off other people's misfortunes. (The misfortune being running into them, of course)

Once, I saw a listing on eBay - I think it was a print - the seller, of course, hyped it up with the usual "RARE! LIMITED! SOLD OUT!" pitch. And then he/she said something like "Up for auction is this book by famed British artist Banksy, also known as GORDON BANKS". And then he/she provided a URL to Gordon Banks' biography.

These are the people who should be shot, methinks. Can't you at least do a little research??

You get graffiti artists that are trying to get known putting "like Banksy" and I think good luck to them! ;D if they can start to build up a following from it, I cant see that Banksy would mind.
Also it can get us all looking at other artists that we might not have found before ;D
