Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by aj2010 on Nov 6, 2011 3:30:49 GMT 1, I have commented on how much I like the new Sickboy pieces, but as the blocks are part of the Heaven and Earth show, I feel it is reasonable to make comment about them.

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by speebe on Nov 6, 2011 10:16:32 GMT 1, One of Eine's blocks used his name in the style that was repeated recently on his cheap print. So really he hasn't moved on. How come his block was done in 2009 anyway. With the risk of repeating myself, I would like to see Eine progress in his art, maybe in a multi media path as I feel he has taken it as far as he can go with his present style. Just my opinion obviously. The show was originally planned for spring 2010, that would explain why Eine's blocks were done in 2009. To be honest, this isn't really the thread to be discussing Eine's progression in his art. I would have thought people would want to talk about the amazing show and work Sickboy created instead.
Well said....
I really want to pop back to see this today, this is one of those exhibitions that warrants a second or third viewing. The PV was always going to be hectic and booze fuelled affair and I'd love to take it all in properly today. Those large canvases need to be wallowed in, like a long soak in a psychedelic bath tub.

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by sand on Nov 6, 2011 10:37:11 GMT 1, Wish I was near London to check out the show again. It feels like I missed out on so many little details in the paintings during the private view as it was all so overwhelming at first.
It's a shame the show was only on show to the public for 3 days. But I guess that's what happens when you put on shows independently with no gallery support - you foot the bills for renting a space.
Has anybody got any hi-res images of the whole of the canvases that show up the details properly? The pics on the webstore are great..but tiny.

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by sal on Nov 6, 2011 17:35:22 GMT 1, Sickboy's work never looked so appealing to me!.. Im really quite impressed with with couple of pieces, so thanks for sharing the photos.. there was always this playfulness and childishness that I liked about him, but his work was always missing something to make it more stand out, and keep my attention for a longer time.. these works are DEFINITELY not lacking ANY of that!...
would be a pleasure to see these in person seeing how many details are in every single one of them.. *thumbs up*

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by sand on Nov 7, 2011 19:48:17 GMT 1, Are they def sold out sonnyone? Have you emailed to ask?
It's just surprising to think they're all sold when they weren't on display at the show + there's been no pic of them on the online store.
Perhaps they're marked as 'sold' until they have a pic to post online? Def worth asking I think..

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by drevil on Nov 7, 2011 20:16:54 GMT 1, Great work. I've never really looked at Sickboy before, but I'm impressed.
Prices seem pretty steep for the canvases given the lack of any gallery representation (correct?). I wonder if they will become more negotiable on the price after the fever cools a bit and they have still failed to sell?
Regardless, I will definately be checking out his show in SF next March.

I really like his colour choices too. I will definitely pick something up from him at some point.

The prices of the larger canvases haven't really jumped up by much since his last major solo show in 2008.
His work sells, slowly but surely (the best way) to collectors who are in it for the right reason (because they love the work and not because they're speculators).
I think the prices are very fair considering the detail and time it must have taken to complete them. Each of the large canvases are also very unique.
And you have got to remember that he's investing a lot of his own money into putting on these shows himself, and it's not cheap!
I respect the fact that he wants to put on shows independently as much as possible (he has had a show in association with the Montana Gallery in Lisbon earlier this year + White Walls in SF next year). But I do think his independence has hindered him growing a larger fan base, especially from abroad.
Hopefully one day he'll be able to put on a show with an established gallery which grants him the freedom to put on the show he wants.
Compared to a lot of artists who have regressed in the past few years (and only paint on the streets to promote their upcoming show), Sickboy keeps on taking risks and raising the bar. He rightfully deserves recognition and success.

Well I guess the lack of almost any sales at all during the show suggests that he is likely overpricing from my vantage point anyway. It looks to me like the only things that really sold were a couple cheaper og pieces and some bricks. The market has spoken, so to speak.
Also, I'm not sure I would be using 2008 as a benchmark year. A few things have happened between then and now... As an example, mustard is trying to sell a Mic canvas he paid $50K for in 2007-8. My guess is that the current value is around 4-5K gbp at most.
It will be interesting to see how things are priced at White Walls in March.
But, as I said, great work IMO. I would buy a canvas if they were priced lower.

Sorry, but what I meant is that prices have not raised significantly since his last major solo show in 2008 and he has sold larger canvases for similar prices between than and now. Sure they haven't all sold instantly, but some have sold a few weeks or months later. It's not a case of everything sold during the 'boom of 2008' and has completely fallen flat since.
As you can tell, i'm a big fan and i've closely been watching his work evolve and techniques develop over the years. His work sells at a slower pace, but it does sell. And he has also been selling commissioned pieces, including these beauties..
I'll just add this pic as well as I think it's a beauty ;D
I think this one sold in 2010..'Stolen Mannerisms'
I don't think the prices are extortionate at all, but I would say the lack of gallery representation is hindering him in regards of marketing his work to a new audience (as you said earlier in the thread, you and many others have 'never really looked at Sickboy before') and this makes selling the larger works harder. He does need to broaden his horizons and put on a major solo show elsewhere. So it's good to see him have a show in Lisbon and in San Francisco next year, but I would think that these will tend to be shows smaller on a much smaller scale.
Here's the thread on the Lisbon show:
urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?board=sickboy&action=display&thread=67127
If you're really keen on a particular canvas, I def think it's worth making an offer.
It's great to see a lot of people have discovered Sickboy's work from this show. I guess that's the most important thing, and i'm sure it will help him sell in the future.
On a side note, it looks like Sickboy is keeping his promise of emptying some cans on the streets now he has a lot more time on his hands.
