Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by saint on Nov 9, 2011 16:59:48 GMT 1, The prices of the larger canvases haven't really jumped up by much since his last major solo show in 2008. His work sells, slowly but surely (the best way) to collectors who are in it for the right reason (because they love the work and not because they're speculators). I think the prices are very fair considering the detail and time it must have taken to complete them. Each of the large canvases are also very unique. And you have got to remember that he's investing a lot of his own money into putting on these shows himself, and it's not cheap! I respect the fact that he wants to put on shows independently as much as possible (he has had a show in association with the Montana Gallery in Lisbon earlier this year + White Walls in SF next year). But I do think his independence has hindered him growing a larger fan base, especially from abroad. Hopefully one day he'll be able to put on a show with an established gallery which grants him the freedom to put on the show he wants. Compared to a lot of artists who have regressed in the past few years (and only paint on the streets to promote their upcoming show), Sickboy keeps on taking risks and raising the bar. He rightfully deserves recognition and success. Well I guess the lack of almost any sales at all during the show suggests that he is likely overpricing from my vantage point anyway. It looks to me like the only things that really sold were a couple cheaper og pieces and some bricks. The market has spoken, so to speak. Also, I'm not sure I would be using 2008 as a benchmark year. A few things have happened between then and now... As an example, mustard is trying to sell a Mic canvas he paid $50K for in 2007-8. My guess is that the current value is around 4-5K gbp at most. It will be interesting to see how things are priced at White Walls in March. But, as I said, great work IMO. I would buy a canvas if they were priced lower.
Critically Zen, Tertiary Visions and Jonah have sold, all around the 4-5k mark. Forget and Forgiven both sold at 2.5k. Others around the 1.5k have sold, and most the smaller pieces.
So i'd say pricing was spot on. As sand says his work doesnt fly out instantly, but it does sell. And fair play to him, the level of detail in these works exceeds his previous work dramatically IMO....

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by sand on Nov 9, 2011 17:12:19 GMT 1, Yep..congrats to Sickboy!
You also have to remember the show was only on for 4 days (if you include the private view opening), and not a month like many shows. So a lot of people are just getting around to finding out about the new work.
So it was rather to soon to say things were overpriced.
Slowly but surely is always best!

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by speebe on Nov 9, 2011 21:29:47 GMT 1, Great to see that some of his larger canvases from the show have found a home...
I'm very tempted to hock an old printed piece of paper to own the stunning 'King of Undesire' original.
Very tempted.

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by sand on Nov 10, 2011 14:10:49 GMT 1, From the Sickboy newsletter:
'Yes, yes! What a result! After a year of blood, sweat and tears, my creative offspring, Heaven & Earth is my biggest accomplishment to date. The show opening was rammed as we just about managed to cope with a guest list that was bursting at the seams โand a website that showed weakness by crashing under the strain of your RSVPs and confessions. Thousands passed through the doors during the three-day opening and I would like to personally thank you all for the positivity and support shown.'
Apparently there's a backlog in sales enquiries due to technical difficulties with the site and there's not many show prints left..so you might wanna grab one sooner rather than later.

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by speebe on Nov 17, 2011 20:54:10 GMT 1, I guess the team are having a well earned break... & as much as I want to act cool and aloof I'll admit I'm growing impatient waiting on my brick...
Has anyone made enquiries as to when items from the show should be shipping?
I don't want to start sending unnecessary emails... but

I've obviously seen these... I'm just growing impatient waiting on my brick and was hoping to see some more intimate shots of bricks bought by forum members that have arrived (from sacked etc)
Images on the website are great but I want to see MORE............................................... ;D

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by sand on Nov 22, 2011 0:11:22 GMT 1, Some post show thoughts from Mr Sick :
Good spot sacked!
The link doesn't work cos of the naughty words! ;D
Here's the article + a few pics from the link we haven't seen before:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
F u c k nFilthy Meets: Sickboy.
Iโve been posting the work of Sickboy for some time, a prominent name in the UK graffiti / art scene & someone whoโs work I really admire. I caught up with him briefly after his latest show in London, check out what he had to say below along with some exclusive, never before seen photos taken by the one & only Viktor Vauthier .
Q1.Who are you & what do you do?
I am the artist and habitual line-stepper known as Sickboy. I eat, sleep and paint the majority of the time.
Q2.Tell us about your latest show & how it came about?
Heaven & Earth is a show that just dropped in London. The loose idea, without getting over-complex, was to represent my own version of the world I live in. In the two-years leading up to the show opening, I developed an unhealthy interest in alchemy, cubism, spirituality, surrealism and disco which formed a lot of the work that carried me to the finish line. I also worked on a collaborative install with 12 amazing artists such as Anthony Lister, Word to Mother, Ben Eine and Conor Harrington, to name a few.
Q3.How was it perceived?
The opening was heaving. I work independent of the galleries so the guest list is the thing I sweat over on the opening night. The response was fantastic. A solo show is a chance to refine your creative voice and I hope I made good use of that.
Q4.Whatโs next?
Rehab and roast beef. I think living and dying for your art has its place pre-show, but post show is a temporary gathering of thoughts, before you move onto the next big thing. I have a very interesting plan for next year โ Iโll keep you posted (www.thesickboy.com).
