Artist stars, by Daniel Silk on Jan 20, 2012 16:45:56 GMT 1, why should I start a thread to change an artist rating? my opinion will be ignored like you're doing right now when we're asking you to remove the rating stars. no one (apart from you) likes this idea, and it has been explained very well by many members why it shouldn't exist. and what did you say? "you don't expect everyone to agree with your opinion, so don't expect these ratings to change just to suit you personally." you should state clear to everyone that that they are YOURS personal ratings, that reflects YOURS ideas and they won't be removed because YOU like them.
Can you tell me what is says beside the stars please?

If it said "Daniel Silk Rating" I would need to change a lot of the stars coz it doesn't reflect my opinion.

well now it doesn't reflect the forumites' opinions neither because we (forumites) DON'T WANT ANY RATING. this is our opinion, NO RATINGS.

I think now we have the results from two years of Awards its worth working it all out like that Then you have ALL had the chance to vote, and you have decided the number of stars yourself

Exactly!
Everyone had the chance to vote in the Awards, and thats what the new rating will reflect The opinions of all those members who voted.

It doesnt say that.

Artist stars, by Cedric Mnich on Jan 20, 2012 17:35:23 GMT 1, I personnally see no reason to grant some artists several stars and some less, giving them a subjective rating which may differ necessarily from a person to another. I think the number of posts in artist dedicated threads speak for itself regarding the popularity (or controversy) of an artist. Hence my vote. You should either be rated artist or gallery or member (are there any other status ?).
Now, if you want to represent people's opinion, my suggestion would be to create a specific logo giving some artists a UAA award logo next instead of the red star, in order to represent the votes of members and showing real artists popularity here. A bit like the gold stars on soccer world championship polos... Banksy and Invader would have two golden UAA awards, second and third (like ROA and BLU) could have silver / bronze UAA awards etc. The risk is that it may look like Russian generals uniforms in the end but that's a possibility to consider ? Whaddayathink guys ? Just my 2 cents / pennies.

Artist stars, by manty on Jan 20, 2012 17:41:34 GMT 1, What would help me would be a moodometer
I have just spent 3 hours with my accountant, and feel a little headache coming on.
I'd like something that can show everyone how I feel
Also there are some real moody people on here, and a great amount of negativity against certain things
I would like to be able to like or not them
I like you by the way, who ever you are
Thanks for listening

Artist stars, by Daniel Silk on Jan 20, 2012 17:47:33 GMT 1, It was said before that after a few UrbanArtAwards the rating could maybe be set by the combined results. It might be a bit complicated to work out, but its possible to do I think How is it possible when South America was excluded from the awards? How were the stars allocated initially? That should be easy to answer. I know I want to do awards for South America, Australia and Asia in the end, but so far members just havent really shown interest in enough Artists from those areas to make it worth doing. The ratings were originaly done on what was felt was the general feeling towards those Artists across the forum, also taking into account things like the number of threads, posts about them. They have gone up and down over that time, and the original idea was to always change them in the end to reflect the results of the Awards.

I will start a new locked thread.
I will posts up the results from the last two awards, and try to work out how they can be translated into a 5 star system. You can keep an eye on the thread so you can see me working it all out ok.
Thanks!

Artist stars, by johnnyh on Jan 21, 2012 18:03:52 GMT 1, Daniel your last comment is the problem. There is no correct or fair way of doing this. They are artists not hotels. The awards do not reflect accuirately members opinions as not every one votes. Also when offered to vote as far as I know we dod not know it was star orientated. I think your determination to inflict the system is both alienating artists and the members. Would offer this as a compromise that you drop the stars till you come up with a system that is supported.
If you cannot come up with a fair system and I believe that there is none as artists should not be judged that way. Naturally stars suggest better and worse which is not correct for artists.
Read the opinions on this thread and there is almost no positive ones for the system other than yours. That's not totally true But a fair concensous of people who use the board.
Other things to consider in your awards is not everyone see's a lot odf street art and not everyone buys from galleries or knows many galleries
So you numbers are based on a small percentage which is not correct. Similarly if you base on threads. Mr Brainwash has a lot of negative threads does that make him a higher star rating than a positive thread etc.
Would just ask on behalf of a lot of people who love this board forum to please reconsider. I even gave as others have a way of doing earlier so that no one is judged please read and consider
Thx Johnny
