My framer broke my Banksy, by jonti on Feb 4, 2012 12:26:42 GMT 1, Hi all, need done advice here on what to do about this,
I unframed my Pulp Fiction to prepare to send it to get it reframed and found that the previous framer has almost rubbed the original ed number off and wrote it again so you could see it inside the mount!
Also horrid sticky tape was used to mount it!
They have another print of mine in at the moment, not very valuable but one I am spending a few bob on the frame.
I have a COA for the print, but wondered wether now it would be affected at all?

My framer broke my Banksy, by curiousgeorge on Feb 4, 2012 12:54:33 GMT 1, Print and insurance details as suggested ^^ Did the framer quote you for archival/conservation framing??
Not the first time I've heard of edition numbers being moved with the aid of a rubber and pencil!
Value (guessing) -20/30% (depending how the tape comes off) Zest-It (or similar) will remove the tape and fingers crossed none of the paper
Mylar corners and japanese rice paper and starch is what you need, drop me a pm and I should be able to send some out to you
Beware of the framer with a rubber on his pencil!!

My framer broke my Banksy, by mouser on Feb 4, 2012 14:33:01 GMT 1, Shocking, I've heard about it happening before, still worth a very strongly worded conversation. As for the framing, issue, I've had the same "issue" in the past with a WSM, got a couple of free framing jobs from the framer for it, but didnt help much at the time. Was lucky to ba able to remove the gum etc, but majorly unchuffed at the time.

My framer broke my Banksy, by gibbin82 on Feb 4, 2012 15:51:12 GMT 1, You must be gutted, can't understand what the framers were thinking by cutting a mount smaller than necessary and then renumbering it to suit the mount. Also a bit surprised that you didn't notice it as soon as you got it back from them. If the new numbers can be removed and not leave a indentation, maybe POW maybe able to help you by rewriting the edition numbers on, after all it is not as though Banksy writes them so being renumbered by POW would be as original. Have a word with a restorer about removing the new numbers (and any tape damage) and POW about renumbering, get a price on both and then go back to the framer, it will be a lot cheaper than a replacement print and may be much less hassle trying to get the framer to agree to refunding you the full print value.

My framer broke my Banksy, by jonti on Feb 4, 2012 17:45:54 GMT 1, Hi all, great to hear good advice on here after my post, (and some questionable courses of action)!
I've just got back from the framers now. And I've got to say, they have been brilliant! Once I told them when it was framed they knew how it had happened. When they took over the business a couple of years ago, they hired someone who didn't stay around for too long let's say. They thought they had seen the last of that member of staff's feck-ups. The girl they have now is an art and textiles graduate who has worked for Farrow and Ball among others.
They are sending the print to their restorer who they have used extensively for customers and are more than happy with his past witchcraft. And they will reframe it for free. The James Baker of mine they have at the moment is looking great, and While I was there I gave them a Xenz to frame, as I am 100% sure this was a mistake that will not be repeated. Plus these 2 frames will also be free of charge, and they promised even more favourable rates than I get now for future pieces!
I have also been in touch with POW, and it's getting sent to them on Monday for their thoughts on the numbering.
This kind of service is a credit to the owner and would not hesitate to recommend them

My framer broke my Banksy, by sfinks on Feb 4, 2012 17:57:57 GMT 1, I must say, that is very good customer service. At least they do what they can to make you happy, and seems like they did. Very mature of you not going public with names until you had investigated and given them a chance. Best of luck for the future of this print. Let us know what POW say.

My framer broke my Banksy, by johnnyh on Feb 4, 2012 18:00:41 GMT 1, Good stuff mate glad to hear that. By far the best solution. You would get alomost zero from insurance. A print would have to be destroyed for them to pay up. They would just repair same as now. POW will almost certainly re number for you as long as the number is correct so good to hear that they have a restorer as well close by.

My framer broke my Banksy, by boatyyy on Feb 4, 2012 19:36:44 GMT 1, there was a thread on here not too long ago about 'is banksy an investment' - got me to questioning myself...
what has this guy/gal actually done to warrant such a fan base?... the Cardinal Sin piece was the one that sunk in for me... why before, I can't fully recollect now (except for the morons piece)...
questioning just about everything these days... what is it about this 'banksy' that has attracted folks?

I would have been just as bothered about any print being damaged, not just a banksy piece.
The print in question here was a present from my wife delivered to me on the morning of my wedding, I'm not really bothered about art as an investment.
All I ask is for an artwork to be as the artist intended for it to be, i.e. not damaged and on the wall.
