Adam Neate โข Revolving Door, by Deleted on Jan 6, 2012 8:55:37 GMT 1, Thats wicked !. The best Neate I've seen for ages. Anyone want to donate and large chunk of cash to a bloke who is gonna be out of work soon?. Anyone want a second hand Kidney?. This is a huge leap forward IMO. I would so love to see this in person. I'd even travel to London just to see it. But not sure I can justify flying to Singapore. I am so lucky to be able to alive in a time where we can see work like this via film without leaving our bedrooms. Long live Adam Neate !!.

This would not have been out of place in his last show but the 3D works brilliantly

Adam Neate โข Revolving Door, by pezlow on Jan 6, 2012 21:18:51 GMT 1, Woah, suprised this has so much love. Adam Neate is unquestionably talented but I really don't think much of this at all. Gimmicky and, well, a bit naff if you ask me. Personally I've never really got why he does all the 3 dimensional stuff. He's such a talented painter that he should stick to what he does well, his spectacularly haunting 2d paintings. It strikes me that this work shows a man who is really struggling to find his way.
Each to their own. Ho hum.

Pez I agree 100%. I would dig out the post were I said the same thing after his last show but I cannot seem to find it. I just love his paintings so much and his latest 3D stuff is just to arts & crafts for me. Such a pity but maybe its part of the journey he must take to discover what he really has to offer. So mightily talented I have to believe that he will come good in the end. Just my opinion of course.

Got to say I agree, it's cool he's exploring this option but it's nothing that cubism and futurism didn't handle in 1913 and of course that was coming off the back of a few hundred years of pre modern work, it was a revolution in painting then, not sure what this is now. Pretty and technically interesting maybe but nothing more, but like you said, he's an amazing painter and maybe has to work through this to get back to it. Be great to see him tackle some large scale sculptures too. A little sad how he's been disassociated with this scene since his earlier work but I guess that's the direction and choice he and his gallerist took. A mistake IMO.

Adam Neate โข Revolving Door, by Deleted on Jan 6, 2012 23:44:04 GMT 1, I really don't think it matters what form his work takes as long as I enjoy, this piece isn't up there for me, it's just not something that says something to me at least.
As for disassociating himself from this scene? Eh? What scene? producing prints? Leaving canvases on street corners? Wholly irrelevant other than hes probably not become as famous as his talent would suggest he can. Do I care? Does he? I think he's made enough money not to care that much.

Having said that..........
I do admire the chap for doing what he wants to do, instead of standing still
Some of his perspex stuff is pretty cool though
And lets be honest any of his art knocks spots off of anything else shown on here
Except Hirst of course who owns art when it comes to spots

Never mentioned prints and money, but in answer to your questions.
This scene ? Street Art and Graffiti Do you care ? I don't know do you? Does he ? who knows, I know he doesn't really give a shit about money other than it's given him the freedom to make art full time.

...nothing at all 'naff' about his last show, thought it was stunning and one of the best of the year.
Why should he stick to a style just because he's good at it? Artists get bored, experimentation is progression.
Not sure how exploring 3D (which to my knowledge he's always tackled, albeit previously with paint and cardboard) suggests he's 'lost his way' either... Does the fact it wasn't predominantly painting make the work somehow less worthy? (there were a couple of stunning paintings at that show too btw).
Only thing I can think might disappoint some folk is that it wasn't particularly print-friendly.. not an issue for me

Well your on an urban art forum and you're saying his disassociated himself from the scene hence the association. So as you haven't explained I assume his lack of street work disappoints you?

Agreed they were good - hardly an association with most urban art these days
