ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by Brushstrokes 75 on Oct 17, 2010 15:59:45 GMT 1, I just have a small advice to share, thought that it could be helpful.
I'm not gonna enter in a really detailed situation but here is the story.
I sold a print on ebay about 3 months ago.
Yesterday, the buyer made opposition to his credit card! Now paypal is asking me proof of delivery and shipping.
(Of course, tracking numbers don't work after 2 months in France..). Hopefully I still had the receipt from the Post office with the post office stamp saying that I shipped this parcel to this person.
So a good advice would be to always keep the proof on paper that you have sent something. Otherwise, you could lose both the item you sold and the proceeds from the sale.
Hope this would be useful for someone else!

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by manty on Oct 17, 2010 16:49:25 GMT 1, Thanks for the warning brushstrokes
Would be interesting to see if the buyer could be done for fraud on this?
If you didn't have the proof, could paypal have done a refund from you after this time. Or would the buyers credit card company footed the claim?

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by eduarandres on Oct 17, 2010 17:36:51 GMT 1, also always ONLY send by ups , dhl, fedex because you will get a proper signature and they will tell you exactly when the print is delivered
but even that wont guaranty anything
here is a little story that happened to a friend
He sold a print sent it by Fedex, the buyer told him that the tube arrive empty, then he went to the police to say that the tube was empty, got a report etc. then paypal gave the money back to the buyer and my friend the seller was left without a print and without any money at all
and because he did not insure the print for the full value he made a big loss
so always send by a courrier but pay for extra insurance to cover the full amount, if you dont do that then your normal cover its only £50

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by Brushstrokes 75 on Oct 17, 2010 17:41:12 GMT 1, Yep always do this. But remember that tracking number disappear after a while. Meaning if you try to use a 3 or 4 months old tracking number, you wouldn't be able to verify that the tracking actually existed or arrived at destination!
Hopefully, I keep everything on record since it happened to my brother last year. Someone made opposition to his credit card almost a year after saying someone stole his credit card and bought some vinyls with his credit card . Hopefully, he still had the postage receipt with the guy's address.
The big problem here is that for once it's not paypal's fault. The guy made the opposition through his credit card company. The decision will be made by the credit card company. They ask paypal information about this purchase. Proof of shipment... So they can help block the claim.
Hopefully it's only for a $200 transaction. As JBOY said, always add the tracking number through paypal with transaction on ebay and always keep for at least a year the paper or pdf receipt of shipment where there's the post stamp and the buyer's address...
Basically, if the credit card company root for the buyer (in case i wouldn't have any proof). Paypal would have to cancel the transaction, meaning taking $200 on my paypal account (for now, they blocked $200 on my credit card).

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by Brushstrokes 75 on Oct 17, 2010 17:50:47 GMT 1, @ eduarandres : It happened to me last year as well. Received a tube opened and empty. The parcel was lost during 3 weeks. Refused the parcel, and it went back to seller (who hopefully insured it to its value) and everyone got his money.
But yeah another advice : always check the parcel when you receive it and make a claim (or reject the parcel) to the delivery guy when you receive it. If you don't, even if you insured rightfully the parcel, there's no retro insurance claim possible (even if you fully insured the parcel). The shipping companies consider that when a parcel is signed, the parcel is always accepted no matter the external defects (and they will never take the blame afterwards!).
Other advice, always send to the address that you see on paypal at the time of the purchase. It happens sometimes that a buyer ask you to ship to another address after payment (if it's intended to be a gift for example). Never ever accept. If there's a dispute, paypal will tell you that you don't have any proof that the parcel was actually received since it wasn't sent to the right address and you'll get screwed!

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by stanley on Oct 17, 2010 18:20:13 GMT 1, What was their ebay id? (as it does sound dodgy)
Also, i have 2 ongoing claims with Royal Mail. First was the buyer received an empty tube and the 2nd claim was a damaged tube and contents.
I had to wait an age for paypal to make their decision on the empty contents case and they gave the £ back to the buyer. I put a claim in with Royal Mail and they stated there would be a 3month investigation. After which they kept asking for the same info i had already provided numerous times. Then they offered the price which i paid for print (which was alot less than what i sold it for 4years later) even though i had insured it for this much. They then closed case and told me to appeal.
And the same basically has happened in the 2nd case. This has been going on since december 2009.

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by Brushstrokes 75 on Oct 17, 2010 20:42:15 GMT 1, JBOY is right again. Shipping carriers are total bastards with that. Basically, their policy says that if there's no outside damage when receiving the parcel, the sender didn't pack well the parcel (hence it's his fault). But signed for = NO POSSIBLE INSURANCE CLAIM
I have a question maybe someone here knows the answer. It can happen in good faith that something breaks (or tore...) during shipping. There's some credit cards that has buying insurance protection (like Amex cards); for example, with Amex if something you bought during the last 90 days breaks or get stolen, you can be reimbursed of the amount of your purchase if you used that card to purchase (no opposition to the payment). I was wondering for example, if they would indemnise you for a print or a painting that gets damaged during shipping?

SURE its fine them holding your money for 21 days or holding it for months while some ebay tosspot fucks you about.
but when you owe them money, boy will you know it

Correct, I once sold a print on ebay, got payment via paypal, and sent it off. About a week after the buyer wrote me that it was damaged. The buyer then contacted royal mail about this. Took a couple of weeks and then the buyer returned to me a said that Royal Mail told him that the claim needed to be made from the senders country. Ok, then I filled out a claim at my postoffice, 3 days after I got a reply, the claim must be made in the buyers country...
Anyhow, since the buyer had signed for it even though there was quite a bump in the tube, it would not be covered. So I ended up losing both the money and the print.

Yep you're right but there are some credit card company, with some specific cards where you can put a claim even 1 year after the purchase!

Hi Yeah, that was me. I didnt sign for the print, our receptionist did. It was a struggle but in the end i did reach a satisfactory conclusion with RM (i was compensated financially, and kept the print). Do not think that RM have a crack team who know about these things, they dont! If you need to make a claim be prepared for a long wait, keep all your evidence, and make your arguments clear and stick to your guns.

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by rosstierney on Nov 3, 2010 1:06:38 GMT 1, I don't think there is a maximum. To send a fee free gift payment these days, the funding source has to be your PayPal Balance rather than a Bank/Credit Card. Although a fee will be charged for a gift payment funded by a Bank Account, they drastically reduce it.
