I sent a fee free gift payment to the US in $ just last night, funded by my bank account which I wasn't expecting...

That's weird.. I don't really understand paypal anymore....
For my case, paypal is prostesting to the credit card company for the claim.. Might take up to 75 days....

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by Brushstrokes 75 on Dec 10, 2010 16:48:58 GMT 1, Just got a answer today. I can say that I got totally f*** for about £200.
Opposition has been confirmed. I lost the print, the money, I had to pay the ebays fees and the credit card claim fees...
I really don't understand because I had all the proof needed. I had the proof of deposit, the proof of delivery (the post office printed me the tracking) and an ebay dispute opens by the buyer saying she received the print but allegedly damaged.
I want to file a claim against the buyer for fraud so if a US citizen knows the procedure to file that kind of claim I'm all ears.
Paypal says I have to file a claim with my local police office. I was wondering if I could file a complaint with the US police ?
If you know anything send me a PM

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by Brushstrokes 75 on Dec 10, 2010 19:26:30 GMT 1, It really sucks...
So now filed a claim to my local police. Have to file a claim against the buyer/paypal (for abusive clauses) to the court. But all this is in France.
Would like to make a claim in the US. A friend of mine advised me to make a claim to the Internet Crime Center in the US. I'm know really doing it for the money, but people who do that kind of stuff need to stop!!
Just trying to put some more pressure anyway!
Edit : Consolation prize, just talked to ebay, they will refund me the ebay fees....

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by Brushstrokes 75 on Jan 11, 2011 3:40:59 GMT 1, Finally, this seems to came through. After numerous calls to paypal, a lot of proofs. Depositing claims in France and the US.
I think paypal as well really pushed back. The buyer just asked me my address to return me the poster. Apparently, her credit card company blocked the money until I get the artwork back!
I hope that she won't mess around and do as they say.... A small victory innit!

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by murdock on Jan 11, 2011 10:51:11 GMT 1, Interesting thread.
I can confirm that PayPal draws money from all sides, not only in fees from the seller. The currency exchange rate is rigged, too. Yesterday, I "paid" them 7€ just to "change" Euros into GBP for a transaction, where they take an additional 3% from the receiver.
Make sure to have your IBAN and SWIFT numbers ready for European bank transactions (where you TRUST each other!), and save each other some money...

I'm not too happy with that currency rate when I receive money either. More especially because I have an expatriate account, so I have some special advantages relevant to currency exchange rates (spot rate of the day of the transaction) & fees for paying abroad or in a different currencies (I have non of these). So it always kill me that they take exactly about 0.03 euros per every pound...

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by stringer64 on Apr 11, 2011 9:30:45 GMT 1, Just a little warning to members of this Forum regarding selling on ebay and using established names in your advert. I have just had several of my ebay items removed after they were reported for using "Banksy, Eelus, Faile" in the listing. None of these were threats to anyone as they were selling pieces by Nai for between 99p and £15. I am virtually sure that these were reported by a member of this Forum who has an unsavoury attitude. I would name and shame but I cannot prove anything. I think other members have already named this member in recent threads anyway. It looks like this member has managed to rob me of my insertion fees and has forced me to consider leaving this community in order to try and protect future sales.

Happened to me, too. No warning no info by ebay, just an automated email. informing me that my listings were canceled.
And it seems like this really only happens, when someone reports the auction. ebay itself is probably too lazy to check for themselves...

I don't see what the problem is. Ebay has always had a strict policy on spamming, unless you have a justified reason for using an established artists name. I've had my listings removed for ridiculous reasons in the past. What is annoying for me is every time I do a search for an artist I get swamped with below average artists, of which Nai is one. Pure and Simple… let the quality of the work speak for itself, don't use an artists name to direct people to it! And no I did not report you, but the thought had crossed my mind

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by stringer64 on Apr 14, 2011 18:30:53 GMT 1, This argument is a bit disingenuous Jusdeep. That's fair enough for established artists, but still when people sell Faile, Insect, Neate etc on ebay, they add other names to get them noticed. A lot of less established artists would not be seen on ebay without the little "helping hand". It is a means of letting people see less well known artists work and then deciding to buy it if they like it.
A selection of current items on ebay:
cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dface-d-face-rest-piece-banksy-faile-walker-pic-/280647054757?pt=UK_art_prints_GL&hash=item4157de35a5#ht_679wt_1139
cgi.ebay.co.uk/bast-mickey-hand-finished-faile-banksy-interest-/290555715719?pt=UK_art_prints_GL&hash=item43a6786087#ht_500wt_1156
cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHE-PRINT-DOLK-SIGNED-AND-NUMBERED-BANKSY-FAILE-/290554459727?pt=UK_art_prints_GL&hash=item43a665364f#ht_500wt_1156
All of these are very well established artists and yet their seller feels the need to add a few names to the advert to get the piece noticed.
I don't have a problem with this as it is commonplace. Also, ebay is ebay, its not a website dedicated to urban art. It provides an opportunity for people to buy less established artists at a low price. If the art is crap then people wouldn't buy it anyway, and if they want to for a couple of quid then why shouldn't they.
The point I was making was that I appear to have been deliberately targeted by someone, who I suspect is a member of this website, who has something against either myself or Nai. If I was a vindictive person I could happily spend a couple of hours clearing ebay of adverts which have the words "Banksy, Faile, Walker etc" in them through reporting to ebay and how many people here would feel aggrieved? I am not so churlish to contemplate such an act, and I think the world would be a better place if others weren't either.

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by Deux Spin on Sept 30, 2011 11:52:05 GMT 1, Good morning fellas,
Firstly, great thread! I just bought my first piece from eBay having been reluctant to buy art in the past with all the INVADER/BANKSY fakes. I couldnt resist a BAST Mickey - a print I've wanted for a long time now. I got it at a great price £198 for the edition of 40, and I liked the finishing. The only problem is, since paying the seller on Tuesday I havent heard back from him. He seems to have good feedback, but you never know?
Has anyone dealt with this seller?
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bast-Mickey-edition-40-hand-finishing-NO-RESERVE-/230673893118?pt=UK_art_prints_GL&hash=item35b53c46fe
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers, Cedric

I normally give a week to ten days before contacting them again, if I haven't heard back immedialtely. People go on holiday, get sick etc.. and are basiclly a little errant in returning messages sometimes. And yes you got a great piece for a great price.

Thanks bomber, I guess I'll be patient here.
Has anyone thought of creating a thread of all the known scammers on ebay? I know people emerge with different usernames, but still this would help - especially for items like the Banksy Tenners which are often faked!

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by .dappy on Sept 30, 2011 14:15:05 GMT 1, A lot of people do not contact the buyer and it just turns up! One way of checking is to look at the row of icons next to the listing on your summary page. The £ sign should be 'on', where you have paid and the next one (?) most sellers 'illuminate' once they have sent the piece. Give it a week or so - depends how far it has to travel and they may well post at the w/e if they have a day job during the week.

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by scammed on Apr 13, 2012 19:26:35 GMT 1, I just got scammed by someone who happens to be a member of this "community". I sold them a Shepard Fairey print on eBay for $300 and shipped it to France. (Sound familiar?) I didn't buy tracking per se', but I did have the "customs form #" and it shows as "DELIVERED". I also didn't buy signature confirmation since I didn't know it was "required". The buyer simply contacted eBay and told them that they had tried to work it out with me - which they didn't - and didn't receive the print. Ebay promptly screwed me out of my $335 (including shipping) without considering my side of the story.
If anyone out there ever runs across 123/200 of "Nouveau Black" by Shepard Fairey, please be advised that it is quite simply stolen property.

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by kennyre317 on Jun 3, 2012 7:46:23 GMT 1, This thread is getting all mixed up with info here and there and not all of it is correct but I'll do the best I can to give a pretty good rundown.
a bit about myself .... i've only been collecting art/prints and the likes for about 4 months now but have been collecting vinyl records and watches/timepieces as well as accessories for about 10 years, and in those 10 years i've probably bought and sold well over 3000 items and not once have i been screwed (actual loss of the item or cash) whether i was the buyer or the seller, although i buy significantly more and will share these tips .....
if you buy an item always do the following ....
1) do not keep a balance in your paypal account, even if you just sold an item and going to use the funds toward another purchase immediately ALWAYS transfer it out first
2) ALWAYS use your credit card to fund the purchase rather than your bank account that's tied into paypal, NO DEBIT CARD .... always use a credit card.
3) be patient, and give a benefit of a doubt unless you do some digging and stuff don't seem right .... sometimes sellers do have issues or emergencies that come up and with paypal you're protected for 45 days and with a credit card you're protected even longer.
4) file a dispute through paypal first before going through your credit card company
5) if a package looks damaged document every step of you opening the package with a quick photo, same goes for if you open a tube and see that it's poorly packaged and there may be a chance of a damaged print ... you want to show that it was damaged right as you opened it and wasn't caused after you opened it so the seller doesn't accuse you of damaging on purpose for a refund.
6) always include serial numbers in the photos
here's a situation i had to go through once from ebay ..... I puchased an item that i paid about $8000 for and the seller pretty much answered one question in regards to shipping notification and he pretty much disappeared after that with no response. I filed a dispute with paypal and after a week of review they ruled in my favor but because the seller took out the funds already there was nothing that could be done in terms of paypal reimbursing my loss. I had paid with my credit card and they froze the charge so i didn't have to pay it up front and did their own investigation and obviously they ruled in my favor. took about 10 minutes to give the amex rep the details and the situation and all was taken care of. When i pay by credit card via paypal i never really worry about getting an item in as i know that i have the security blanket from my cc company.
DO NOT PAY BY GIFT, unless you are completely comfortable with dealing with the seller or know them in one way or another, if you pay be gift you aren't covered by paypal or cc unless you report that the funds was not sent by you but then you would be committing fraud yourself. I've paid by gift, met up and paid in cash, and also wired money bank to bank and every single time i did those methods i was completely comfortable with transferring amounts into the 5 figures without having any issues of trust with the sellers.
***** if you pay by gift via paypal balance or your bank account there are no fees, if send a gift with a credit card you get hit with fees, if you send different currencies you will pay fees ... recipient does not pay any fees with a gift payment regardless of situation.
For sellers .....
1) take photos of the item before packing it up and shipping it out, make sure you show the serial number clearly within the print or item so someone can't swap it out
2) package the item with alot of care, i can go into great detail in how to package a print properly IMO but i won't unless someone requests it
3) take a picture of the rolled print packaged into the tube before you seal up the last endcap ... same goes for if you're shipping a box, always take a picture before you seal it all up
4) do not ship without delivery confirmation or tracking of some sort, it's not expensive to add-on even for international packages and well worth it for the peace of mind
5) insure the package for the actual value .... if you're sending something internationally i know how bad some countries are with their VAT but if you're willing to go a lower claimed amount let it be known to the buyer that they are responsible for it after you give them tracking and have them confirm it.
6) if your package gets destroyed in shipping and you file a claim have the buyer send everthing back to you including the original packaging or to at least document all the damage.
7) file your insurance claim online, with usps doing it online takes about 7-10 days from the day you file the claim to the time you'll get the check in the mail. My friend sent me a print and the tube had a huge dent, i documented it well and sent the pictures to my friend and he put the claim in .... now i'm sitting on a mangled print .... but no one lost any money because it was insured
8) if the package is not beat up and your print is still damaged you probably did a horrible job at packing it up to ship and may be assed out
i think i'm done and if anyone has any questions i'll be around ....
and that is my first post

This thread is getting all mixed up with info here and there and not all of it is correct but I'll do the best I can to give a pretty good rundown.
a bit about myself .... i've only been collecting art/prints and the likes for about 4 months now but have been collecting vinyl records and watches/timepieces as well as accessories for about 10 years, and in those 10 years i've probably bought and sold well over 3000 items and not once have i been screwed (actual loss of the item or cash) whether i was the buyer or the seller, although i buy significantly more and will share these tips .....
if you buy an item always do the following ....

ADVICE - Ebay Transactions, Credit Cards, PayPal, by kennyre317 on Jun 3, 2012 7:48:38 GMT 1, another good thing to do out of habit is keeping track of everything you have in a spreadsheet and with a couple of photos, not only is it good to see what you actually have without having to flip through everything but at the same time you can track how much you paid for a specific item, if it has markings, numbered edition, notes ....
it will also makes your life much easier if you ever have to put an insurance claim in case of theft or damage

I just tried to send a payment and they wanted to charge me more than 4% for the privilege as I was using my debit card . Cheeky buggers!

Gift payments only work when the transaction is funded by your bank account or PayPal account balance. You can't use debit/credit cards.
