Gold Ornate Frames, by thwaites on May 1, 2007 8:29:02 GMT 1, nice one lesroy,
ive been after some lovely old style frames for a while, and you inspired me to have a good search online. i found this great framers who specialise in beautiful ornate frames, here are some of my favs:
See more at www.frintongallery.co.uk
I have been waiting for the right frames to frame some micallefs and my morons and I am definately going to use some of these (providing they arent as expensive as I think they may be...)

Gold Ornate Frames, by Strange Al on May 1, 2007 8:38:05 GMT 1, Thwaites - let us know what sort of prices they quote you? Some of these look very nice online.
I've checked a few framers in London for made to order, hand-crafted, swept frames - all the ones I liked (i.e., those which actually look like an antique frame as opposed to a modern repro) cost in excess of £100 a foot. We're therefore talking £100s to frame a standard size print.

Gold Ornate Frames, by themightyreds on May 1, 2007 10:02:41 GMT 1, I got one for my Applause print from an ebay trader called 'letsbuymirrors'. Total with P&P was only £85!!
They mostly sell large ornate mirrors but i spoke to a woman there called Lesley who was able to change the mirror glass for clear picture frame glass and even knock the price down for not using the mirror! Contact number for them is 01204 405405. Beware that the packaging they use is awesome.... my frame arrived and was too big to take home in the back of an escort estate until half-way unpacked!!

I posted in an earlier thread that Swept Mirror frames are definitely much easier and cheaper to find in Applause size.

Nice job, particularly on the red frame. Properly cartoonish, which goes very well with the Hewlett.

Gold Ornate Frames, by Run Pig Run on May 1, 2007 18:32:56 GMT 1, didn't think anyone would like this! If anyone is thinking about having a go i'd say go for it, it's really easy just spray thin even coats, leaving for ten miutes or so between each coat and on the final coat make sure you spray every little bit in one go to make sure it doesn't look patchy. you will need a mask - i had a serious headache for about three days after doing this.
This is the paint I used cos it's nice and glossy........ www.monstercolors.com/ the above colour is Red Devil and is a sort of dark pinky red in real life. The other is Toaster White

Gold Ornate Frames, by Run Pig Run on May 1, 2007 20:19:06 GMT 1, theres some real good black frames on an angel bomber in the 'get your banksys out..' thread, but you might have to scroll through 59 pages to find it!
50x70 impression IF02 for my shat-at defo needs painting up though - it looks a bit nasty

Gold Ornate Frames, by thetongue on May 2, 2007 10:35:55 GMT 1, I like these! Stupid question but assume you then have to get a framer to put some glass in? For the size we're talking about here how much d'you reckon that would cost? Cheers

Indeed, your local framer should be able to cut some glass to size, mount the print, etc. It obviously depends on what materials you choose (e.g., non-reflective glass, etc) and size of the print, but you should be able to get a standard size print finished to a pretty high standard for about £50. I've done a few this way.
You can save some cash by having some or all of the elements prepared (e.g., glass and mounts cut) for you and then framing the print yourself - depends if you want the challenge.

Gold Ornate Frames, by mickg on May 3, 2007 16:33:09 GMT 1, I've just been on to Framers Corner to buy some of the 50 x 70cm Impression IFO2s (01530 516925). They are about to discontinue selling finished frames and won't be restocking so get in there quick if you fancy them - I think they only have 10 left. Brilliant deal - £9.29 each, plus max £7 delivery regardless of quantity.
