I'm starting to frame my own prints and have already become confident in mounting with a window mount so the next step is the float mount so I can show of the deckle edge of stuff like Prefab77 prints.
Just trying to figure out the benefits of the V-Hinges against Pass Through Pendant Hinges so if anyone has any tips then I'd love to hear them?
CG seems to know quite alot about the framing side of things so I'm guessing you frame your own artwork?

Some bargains to be had for some top quality ornate frames if you get the right day. Might take a bit of work to clean it up and recoat it, but sorta goes with the whole Reid DIY ethos, guessing you dont want it too polished.

Suffolk is rich in Antique shops, junk shops and car boot sales, but no luck so far. I am looking for one that will need a little restoration and paint. Ironically, I have a friend who has an old frame in one of her outhouses but it's too far gone and full of worm. Hopefully, someone on here might know of a decent source. Would consider a repro.

Left your details with local antique dealers? if they know you are looking, they'll often pick one up for you, alot of those guys like a wee challenge, and they are usually a good source for oddities like glass domes etc.

I think Monkey Parliament would look even better in AZA's frame.
On the whole though, I like a good solid float mounted white on white. An ornate frame has to be the right one as framing can make or break a work.

It's an interesting observation Daniel, they're very symbolic and denote a certain set of values, hence their use in religious institutions and museums. The marble plinth of painting. Put some of the pre-modernist paintings in white box frames and they don't sing their own praise quite so much. Kind of like a chandalier in a council flat. Out of context they've always reminded me of Hyacinth Bucket in "Keeping up appearances", that's not to say I don't have a few knocking about the apartment :-) It works well with "I can't believe you morons buy this shit", not so much for Dface maybe. |
