ahem, so are you saying if he was simply a graffiti writer or an artist he would be as famous, thats $hite, he'd still be as talented but there are many talented artists about, the thing that sets banksy apart is the inability to make contact with him and the secrecy which surrounds him and his art. Putting things in art galleries which aren't meant to be there is something art students have been doing for years - hell i even did it once. I find some of his work is not particularly strong and the impact is weakened when it starts getting political imo. His one line humour and animal related pieces have moments of genius and the appeal is broad, something which he has made a great success.

Think you're not being realistic on this one. Someone like Banksy who has spent his life trying not to be identified and tracked down will be smart enough to evade someone who possibly knows his original name and location and has some Β£50s for the posties.. I doubt he "officially" goes by his previous name any more, will most likely not be on the voters roll or any other public roll by his previous name, and i expect he lives in more than one place. If it was that easy, it would be front page on the Sun, not just some crappy article in the Daily Mail.
As someone who previously worked with him told me... "its suprising how many people who think they have met banksy, actually have not"
