Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by Deleted on May 23, 2008 16:40:03 GMT 1, Cartrain, thank you for the link but i think that most people are familiar with the Picasso "Geurnica", i reckon this is your interpretation of the Massacre?, its not my cup of tea but its certainly better than i could do myself. Your work does seem to attract negative criticism for some reason? but at the very least you are having a go and it gets people talking!.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by spirit on May 23, 2008 16:43:24 GMT 1, Why did you choose to do another interpretation of Guernica Cartrain? I know it's the anniversary but it seems like everyone's doing them at the moment (Ron English, Pure Evil etc)
I am really looking forward to seeing something that you do that shows some original thought and is not just a poorer version of something already done.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by Heavyconsumer on May 23, 2008 17:01:15 GMT 1, I don't get why it has what looks like spilt liquid glue/varnish/treacle on it, imo that doesn't really add anything positive. I think it's much less boring than the stencils though. Can't say I'm a fan on the whole, but it's always nice to see something different and I think there are some interesting elements to it, such as the references to machines and possibly our relationships with them and a well translated feeling of mayhem, which I guess was desired as per your explanation ("madness of socity").

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by bmjt on May 23, 2008 17:08:07 GMT 1, I'm just guessing, but it might be a type of liquid rubber-esque stuff you apply and then paint over, and then peel off when you've finished to reveal clear paper. Used it in school, looks similar.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by hopelessquest on May 23, 2008 17:12:44 GMT 1, cartrain, before you pull out the pablo picasso references, maybe it is a good idea if you actually drew the images yourself rather than tracing the dark areas of your hello magazine photo collages, I'm pretty sure mr picasso drew his own s**t. Bruv you have to realize from here that picasso referencing looks like you are aspiring to be some pretensious cock cheese and there are a lot better people to be doing that than you (plus they can draw).
Go back on the streets for a bit because this new selling tip you are on means people can pick you apart, at least out there they told you your stuff was shank but gave the proper amount of respect because of your level of prolifiration, unfortunately once you bring it indoors you are just shank.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by weeble on May 23, 2008 17:52:00 GMT 1, lol. this thread is well harsh. i think its cool that you're experimenting and doing something that you love cartrain, but i guess if you're just in it to make money, it's probably not gonna happen. i think integrity plays a big part in an artist's career. so painting/stencilling/drawing something then sticking it up here asking if someone wants to buy it, well... i think it lacks a little integrity.
if it's good enough, it will probably be discovered. no problem whatsoever in showing people on a forum what you're up to right now, and getting feedback like some of the other artists often do on here. but i think you're going about it the wrong way perhaps....

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by eddiedangerous on May 23, 2008 17:58:00 GMT 1, cartrain, its fair enought mate. i got a lot of respect for you. however you gotta think with guys producing pieces like this
ron english - guernica
there's good competition out there. you run the risk of ruining any chance you have to be taken seriously in the future. i have enjoyed watching your work on the streets improve year by year and i know a lot of people belive this transition in skill should be done behind doors and when you have reached a certain level then let rip on the streets. i personally believe getting your mark up, however good or bad is still the essence of street art, and so i doth my cap to you.
but wouldn't it be so cool , if you waited a few years for the canvas releases, give yourself a chance to learn some of the artforms and styles outside of graffiti, develop your skills until you are technically much more able than now. then people would really buy into you and your work much more. on the streets people would notice your development and skills, and then waiting for your canvas/prints with anticipation rather than the type of comment throughout this thread. if we watch your canvas work slowly get better for years no-one will wow, or indeed really notice the change in talent, or ever be clamouring to get there hands on one.
concentrate on the street work. how bout some more colours than black!! hang on for a couple or three more years and then release the studio stuff, and sit back and enjoy the bunfight your artwork may one day instigate.
ill give you ยฃ50 for it, i just hope someone offers you more!!

Agreed! I would not want this piece either but the stencils are sooo boring, because they're not innovative ideas, nor are they exceptionally well executed. When you compare them to the works of say, Banksy, Walker, C215, SPQR, Rourke, Neverwork, Grafter or anyone else I can think of who has specialised the medium, they're very sub-standard. This piece is at least different to other art I've seen from him. I don't think it's a masterpiece, but it's his own creation and that aspect of it is cool, as it carrys his individuality. Also when looking to pick it to pieces, it has to be viewed far more subjectively than stencil art, due to the nature of the media.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by Heavyconsumer on May 23, 2008 18:22:59 GMT 1, I don't suggest to know what's best for CarTrain's career, but I do think there's a lot of work to be put into development, before asking punters to pay the type of money his recent canvases were priced at. Look at Angel41 as an example! He produces plenty of work and allows the punters to decide the price, which is pretty honourable really. Personally I feel his work is far better than CarTrain's.

Emailing banksy is not going to get you onto these peoples walls, they all know about you, now do something with that publicity and maybe, just maybe you will generate the cash money you are seeking the proper way, as a by product of something special.
Just be poor man, as an artist you have to live at the precipitous. Suffer for your art for a bit and pay your dues before asking people to pay for your stuff.

If you didn't want people to think you were talking money, it was a strange way to illicit something other than cash bids, unless of course you normally request magic beans or sexual favours in return for your work. I wouldn't know.
