Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Grubster on Nov 12, 2008 21:51:55 GMT 1, If Hirst has indeed purchased these artworks from Cartrain because he likes them, then I offer my sincere congratulations. It would certainly be a scoop and I can understand his desire to tell everyone on here. However, Cartrain has not actually said this. What he said was Hirst had "requested interested" (expressed an interest in?) the artworks and has now obtained them and they are in his possession. From what Ross and others said, I understand that these artworks (for the love of God) used DHs artwork in them - his diamond skull I presume. So, Cartrain, just for the record, please can you confirm that this "requested interest" and "deal" is actually a real sale and not DH claiming ownership of the artworks due to copyright infringement or something like that? You said he "obtained" them through a deal done with you and they are in his possession. But you didn't say he bought them. Again if this simply a case of DH buying Cartrain's work because he likes it then that is certainly something to be very proud of, but I can't help feeling that there is more to it than that. This is exact;y what i was saying but in differ context... this does seem odd, i mean come on! one of his last post was a fake article link to a bbc article. how can you take this serious. I could be wwrong and in that case excuse me, but I found it very doubtful I'm not!

After seeing Cartrains stuff nothing else is possible/imaginable, rather strange no one else in this thread thought the same?!

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by afroken on Nov 12, 2008 23:03:55 GMT 1, Hang on a minute. First of all, congratulations for selling to a serious collector. But (and this is nothing personal) collectors of this particular caliber have a scatter gun approach to collecting. Hirst is a hoarder of contemporary art, following in the footsteps of Saatchi. His investment in an artist really means nothing to their career. In fact it can be a curse. But, congratulations nonetheless for being noticed and bought by Mr Hirst.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Grubster on Nov 12, 2008 23:08:50 GMT 1, It is not being read correctly, I don't think it was a sale but some sort of infringement hence being done through 100artwrks and the galleries rep on the line... why has this not been cleared up by Cartrain? If I'm wrong my appoligies but still no reply!100?

I concur. A bit hard to take this seriously after the fake BBC article.
And for pete's sake, based on the wording used in Cartrain's original post, he could have just given Hirst the work for free.

However, if this turns out to be bullshit, it could be a career ender for Cartrain. Banksy, Francis Bacon, Jeff Koons, Tracey Emin, Richard Prince, Andy Warhol and Cartrain. Thats quite a group to belong to. Cough!

I concur. It's a far better story to say, oh shit, my work's been confiscated by Damien Hirst rather than to insinuate that he acquired it out of admiration if the former is truly the case.
I hope Cartrain made it a point to be truthful in his presentation or my guess is most collectors will have a difficult time seeing him or his art in a serious light, the only thing left in people's minds will be him being a bit of a fibber.

Nah, he is a legend. He still states that he has only ever painted 5 spot paintings himself cause "I couldn't be fucking arsed doing it" and his were "shite". Genius, in my book.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by colonelkurtz on Nov 13, 2008 0:22:31 GMT 1, After reading this, i'm gonna buy a mackerel from the market and a jar of pickled eggs. Chuck the fish in the jar (sans eggs!), put for sale on a website for Β£250 and Hirst will send a goon to pick it up from me. Sweet. Don't think i'll get any money for it though, more like thrown into the hirst collection for him to ridicule in front of his mates. increasing his ego even more, as he necks champagne marvelling how 2nd rate artists are using his work to give theirs creditibilty. Mammal is right, the guy is a genius. Cartain sadly isn't but seems to be very keen! If he's been in contact you should do a joint venture? That i would like to see. Pickled Mickey anyone?

however, it doesnt change that pretty much every single piece of cartain art i have seen has been poor, damien hirst buying work does not mean its good, and the fact he purchased the work that contained an image of his own work speaks volumes
