Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by G-Man on Sept 4, 2009 13:46:14 GMT 1, I just got a break between meetings and read this thread!!
I keep swinging from shaking my head in disbelief and grinning at the insanity of it all
I keep coming back to the same thing again and again
CARTRAIN IS A 16 YEAR OLD BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shit when i was 16 i was still spraying on the back of the local library and generally getting into lots of scrapes with the old bill... fair play he is still a minor, whether his art is shit (IMO) or not fair play for putting on a prank of this proportion
He is just a kid FFS!

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by bob1972 on Sept 4, 2009 14:46:28 GMT 1, Why Hirst stolen a Cartrain works from 100 Artworks? That's the clue... maybe Hirst needs some publicity but IMHO If Cartrain is only a "stupid kid" let play alone and forget about it... Hirst really doesn't need to send people to take "works" from 100 artworks!!!
Its the job of DACS, its what they do for the artists they represent...... go check their website.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by bert on Sept 4, 2009 14:46:28 GMT 1, Hirst must either have an incredibly tiny pecker or a massive ego...probably both I should think.
Shame on the idiots in this thread that can't see the irony of registering to post on a Banksy forum then criticizing subversive acts and applauding the police arresting a kid. tw@ts.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Daniel Silk on Sept 4, 2009 14:47:24 GMT 1, What a brilliant story ;D full of classic lines -
"his actions will feature among the highest value modern art thefts in Britain"
"Police also arrested Cartrain's 49-year-old father, who they suspected of harbouring the pencils."
My favoutite -
"We arranged to arrest him by appointment"
Cartrain, arrested by appointment to New Scotland Yard ;D Classic!

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Daniel Silk on Sept 4, 2009 15:04:04 GMT 1, How can a pack of pencils be worth Β£500,000 from an exhibit worth in total Β£10,000,000?
The rest of room is a total bargain at that rate! Cartrain by chance picked up the most expensive piece.
What if the pencils had been destroyed? Would Hirst be claiming damages of Β£500,000? I think he might have found himself in trouble for giving them a false valuation.

That would have been great , all on the same day too. I wonder what the reaction would have been to that. The police going to see cartrain must be feeling a bit akward though, "ermm we are here reguarding the theft of the worlds most exspensive pencils.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by bazzj04 on Sept 4, 2009 15:29:20 GMT 1, At $20,800 including GST, this is probably the world's most expensive pencil. So what do you get for all that money?
An elegantly ribbed cedar wood writing instrument with built-in eraser and sharpener, an 18-carat white gold extender and end-piece plus three diamonds on the cap beneath a count's coat-of-arms.
Only 99 of these 'perfect' pencils were produced. And you'll have to be quick to get one. Because two-thirds have been sold. The maker is Graf von Faber-Castell, the premium brand of Faber-Castell, one of the world's oldest industrial companies, now headed by 8th generation family member Count Anton Wolfgang von Faber- Castell, 60.
Faber-Castell was founded in Nuremberg, Germany in 1761. Today, it produces more than 1.8 billion black-lead and colour pencils a year, with facilities in 19 countries.
Count Andreas Graf von Faber-Castell was in town last Friday to showcase the $20,800 pencil. On display alongside it at Elephant & Coral at Wheelock Place are the world's oldest surviving wood-cased pencil, found in the attic of a 17th century house after remaining unnoticed for three centuries, and the world's smallest pencil.
Count Andreas told The Business Times that Faber-Castell's pencils are not just pencils - they are an outlet for creativity.
As he put it, sending a greeting by e-mail will never be as nice as a handwritten note on a greeting card.

Are a few daubs of paint on a piece of Canvas worth 100,000,000 I doubt it, but you're not going to walk into a show and steal it for your own please and fame.... well not unless you're dumb you're not.
Well done Cartrain, you're dumber than your art.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by bob1972 on Sept 4, 2009 17:28:40 GMT 1, Listen to yourselves.
The kids rips off some art DACS shakes him down for a copyright infringement, then he goes and robs part of a serious art installation, but its ok, because errrr he's getting back at Hirst, who didn't shake him down in the first place.
If you want to get back at someone go chuck a brick through DACS's window!
DACS support the rights and copyright of artists world wide, its what they do, if Cartrain was a real artist they would do it for him as well.
You lot are a bunch of fuck sticks.
If you want to be Mr big man and go fight the system, GO FIGHT THE SYSTEM not another artist...... go steal all the pens from Nat West, those c**t deserve it, or go write something across Barclays Bank.
Listen to yourselves.
