Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by galen1 on Sept 8, 2009 9:09:05 GMT 1, No..........but Is it any different to the theft of road signs for example, something which has been done by a few on here without condemnation. Interesting that it's the Tate though, a museum built on the proceeds of sugar plantations and slavery which could be called the biggest theft in history a road sign isnt worth 10 million quid... i would hapily steal a road sign knowing its worth only a few bob, i wouldnt steal part of an art work from a museum knowing its going to be worth millions.. thats high scale + value theft. you should go to jail for that. Like anyone else who has stolen a masterpeice from a museum has done in the past.. i think we are looking at a custodial sentence for this. and he is over 18 so will go to jail. yup, he is over 18, otherwise on his bail form it would have to be signed by an adult if he was a minor. which it isnt. (i have good experience in bail forms )
Nobody's stolen Β£10million worth of anything though have they ?
The only real difference is that you disapprove of theft from a wealthy individual but think theft from society as a whole is fine, but it's still robbing isn't it ?
I'm sure as the son of a lawyer you must realise that he's not going down for this, in fact by responding you've contributed to the sub-judice, funny hey.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by richy00 on Sept 8, 2009 11:49:20 GMT 1, cartrain stole part of an installation worth 10 million and the individual item has been valued at 500k.
dad is a lawyer correct, but deals only in contract law and litigation hasnt done criminal law since his days at middle temple.
as for going down for this? who knows. it all depends on what he gets charged with, theft? criminal damage? blackmail? but by the tate valuing the pencils at 500k it makes it all rather serious. Well just have to wait and see. I wouldnt be surprised if we see a short custodial sentence. Its not as if he has good character as a helping hand he has sprayed up half of london.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by alsbabar on Sept 8, 2009 13:45:31 GMT 1, getting publicity for pulling a stunt like this or going to jail doesnt make an artist an overnight hit does it - look at Borf, he served a custodial sentence, but still hasn't broken the big time. In my opinion Borf is far more talented and is being represented by better people/galleries. This stunt just goes to show how talentless some artist are, where they have to do battle with another to gain notoriety, jumping on the back of another artist to build up their rep.
Hirst's reputation will go unblemished, perhaps with the exception of a few people on here, but Cartrain's has been damaged beyond repair imo. The people like a Robin Hood character, the underdog, the antiestablishment, but they already have one. All they will see is that this is another wannabe, and will soon get bored of him as he has used up his 5 mins of fame. You also know that he and his gallerist will milk this to the max, and when it has run its course, another pathetic stunt will be attempted, because the art isnt any good, so try other methods

No, but it certainly helps do you not think?
What did Borf do?

I agree 100% ;D Its really sad to see an artist like Damien Hirst pulling a stunt like this funny that it seems to have backfired on him ;D

I think it was a stupid thing for Cartrain to do, but I also think Damien Hirst has handled the situation really badly.

So you could potentially be cited as an accessory before, during and after the fact

I think the greatest finale for this stunt would be if that kid winds up spending a year in jail for this. Now that would impress me. Going to jail for art. Now that is art.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by alsbabar on Sept 8, 2009 15:05:13 GMT 1, You would like to think wouldn't you Silky that you cannot be made accountable. However, given that Hirst's lawyers have imposed a ban on Cartrain from posting on forums (which i would presume means this one), then you can be sure they are aware of this forum, and are aware of you owning it, after all, all you need to do is a little research and you can find out who the owner of this site is.
Trust me, you can be cited as an acccessory - there is enough evidence on this thread alone to support (not taking in to account the other threads) any possible action against you.
