Craig Everett π¬π§ Rourke Van Dal β’ Urban Artist, by Rourke on Aug 29, 2010 10:30:50 GMT 1, Morning
For the past 6/7 weeks I have been working on a piece , after being kindly asked to take part in 'Made in Britain' show @ London Miles Gallery in September. The piece in the recent style of collage/paint I have been doing recently, I wanted to really push the boundaries with this one, with very fine/delicate collage work then enhanced with detail paintwork. I wanted to try an create a victorian feel to the painting, with a rough feel of outsideness. Will post the finished scans hopefully in the week.
Here is the details for the show, hope some of you guys can make the show.
Cheers

Craig Everett π¬π§ Rourke Van Dal β’ Urban Artist, by Rourke on Sept 2, 2010 9:45:25 GMT 1, Thanks very much guys, I really pleased with it, it took quite alot of time, but this is they way I am going. Will be starting a new one todayβ¦ A portrait of Howard Marks.
Here is a bit of background of the image
I first had the idea for the piece some time ago, just been waiting for my style to develop enough to give it justice. I wanted the picture to have a Victorian feel to it, or from a time when Britain was at its Greatest. To bring that element of Now into it I wanted to create in a way that was different to a traditional painting from this era. By building up minute pieces of newspaper and magazines in away you would paint, to create depth and texture, sometimes cut into fine strips, small dots, diced but mainly ripped. This gave me the look and texture I needed, and also subtly injected the element of everyday British Life to the piece in the form of local and national newspaper stories. Then I enhanced and picked out the detail of the picture by using fine layered paintwork with acrylic, and some small areas with spraypaint, pen and pencil.

Cheers for your comments Manty
Its made from mainly his autobiography book. with some small areas of newsprint and magazine. But entirely from paper, ripped, diced, and cut into fine bits. Some spraypainted for different shades of colour.
Dots - Yes they are punched/cut 1.5mm paper dots individually cut and then placed. in various different shades/colours, then placed on to create and halftone blend.
Thanks

The microdots being alluded to are small tablets of LSD and a personal favourite of my teenage years especially a batch of love hearts kicking around in 1992.
I get the feeling if you licked Mark's face you'd get a similar potent trip as he must exude a substantial amount of psychoactive compounds cutaneously like a very large Bufo alvarius

Craig Everett π¬π§ Rourke Van Dal β’ Urban Artist, by Replete on Oct 3, 2010 2:32:33 GMT 1, 1992 was a vintage year it seems. One of my experiences on them involved just as me and my mate were peaking in his flat a young Joanne Frogatt (just before her days in Coronation Street, Bad Girls etc) and her gaggle of noisy fisher women in waiting turning up out of the blue and then proceeded to begin climbing all over the flat like a swarm of giggling geckos.
We bailed and took shelter in our other mate's basement until we thought it was safe to venture back after the infestation had abated.
Crazy days...
