Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by Rourke on Jun 22, 2008 1:08:14 GMT 1, Thanks paulypaul, for your post and imput, always appreciated.
I always tend to fill my peices full of meaning and reasons.
The reason for this image will become apparent over the next few weeks. My thinking behind it, came when I posted the first in the skins series. The one with the skinhead, kicking out with a union jack on is foot. Which caused a bit of controvesy, and I thought its funny how people asume something on how somebody looks, I.e. 'Skinhead.' people think they're up to know good. Then came the idea for this one. The 'Adidit' logo, presumed guilty, when they have done nowt. (victimization, police arrassment ect.) Hope this makes sense, cos have had a couple of drinks.
When I do a peice, I almost never give too many clues away, on meanings, reasons and that, because I like people to discover them. I think it makes it more interesting, and I am not good at putting stuff into words.
I always try and put everything I have into my pictures. Thats why I like to take along time on one picture.
Hope all this babble makes sense to you, cos it dunt to me ;D
Cheers again mate

Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 22, 2008 1:35:08 GMT 1, I think art can simply take the form of a strong aesthetically pleasing image without necessarily having any deeper message or meaning. Historically, a lot of art has very little meaning and is often more about the development of a particular style Hi Spirit Thanks for a thoughtful response. I will counter with - NO!NO!NO!NO!NO! Historically very little art has little meaning - most has a truckload of meaning which is why it can usually be defined by schools/movement. I'm looking at my Blek 'Tango' which is simple and well cut, like 'Eskimo'. However, Blek had a reason for cutting and painting this stencil which was political and social. I belive 'Eskimo' was cut as a portrait comission? I know what you mean about things simply being beautiful but I would suggest very little art does that - most finds something to help you relate with it and travel with it. I guess I could move towards a discussion about art v design but I'm not going to. In the room where I type this I have the Tango, 2 Thielke and Choe's 'Hoppers'. I think that they all carry a message AND are beautiful... I need to relate....haven't been able to do that with this Rourke or Grafter's stuff... BTW - did i mention I have beautiful message bearing art available here... search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZfrowningprincessblair
Very interesting and well-articulated point. It brings to mind times when I've bought (or even just stood glued to) a piece for aesthetic reasons alone (or so I thought). Then later, upon further reflection it becomes clear that there has at times been a far more profound connection than I at first realised.

Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by Rourke on Jun 22, 2008 9:59:06 GMT 1, Rourke that is the best one yet. I absolutely love it. Would you ever consider doing limited edition stencils of your work on canvas?
Cheer Harveyn, the test spray for this 1 will be on Hardboard, but canvases will follow later in the year. I am planing of doing 1 sprayed peice a week from now and they will be available either in the Studio as part of the 'Eeh ba Gun' ehib or on the Vandalart website. The gallery part of the studio is all painted now, and just awaiting the pictures on the wall. I have a few in stock.
Thanks again mate

Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by Rourke on Jun 22, 2008 11:12:48 GMT 1, Not one for my wall but good strong image none the less Rourke. My only critisism would be that some of the facial highlights look a bit clumsy - particularly in the guy's face on the right. Please can you explain the "adidit" bit?
Cheers mate, I will have a look at the Highlights and try and tidy them up. Might even do them in acrylic.
The adidit logo, will come to light on the next bit. In other words this isnt the entire picture.
Thanks again

Think down the lines of: Britain Patriotism Proud British Empire Best of britsih (and worst) Sommut like, Rude Britannia
any suggestions?
Thanks

A man of taste I see Mr Denning
as the situationsits said, in their polemic "on the poverty of stdent life"
"...the real poverty of ..everyday life finds its immediate, phantastic compemsation in the opium of its cultural commodities...Art is dead, but ..he.. is a necrophiliac"
