True
False
The medium plays a part in the price depending on how its percieved to compliment that specific piece of art. Different genre's have different expectations. One of the joys of street art is that it is much more liberated from the established traditions and expectations and this includes materials. However, still the old maxim 'The medium definitely plays a part in the price of things', is true even in the street art genre but the effects and expectations are unique and different.
Here we have a few old posters ...

No neggin from me old boy - I think that you have a fair point with regards to print prices! It seems like only a few months ago that I thought that ยฃ700 for a print of any kind was super expensive - It seems as if peoples' perception of prices has changed alot in a fairly short space of time....

Yeah alright. And of course how iconic the image is very important and also if an artist becomes known for working in a specific medium they can often get top dollar for any medium if that's what they're known for.
The problem with giclee though in my book is as far as archivabillity goes they aren't as good as most other mediums and as far as perception about hand craftsmanship and printmaking goes they're basically a poor mans epson inkjet print with semi archivable inks. Maybe that's a little unfair for me to say and not everyone agrees with me about that but that perception does exist by myself and many. The longevity of a piece of art is definitely one of the factors you should think about whne buying something imo.

Thats not true...
" Giclee prints are printed on acid free watercolor paper with archival inks. Life-span estimates of Giclee's by third-party testing indicate over 75 years with no noticeable fade. When museum quality lighting is used, this time span increases to 175 years+, this is more than most original watercolours".

Neate's Cold War for ยฃ1400!!, by dgb133 on Sept 5, 2007 23:04:17 GMT 1, Sorry I've missed any and all giclee threads. I'll let it go from now on. To each his own.
But it appears there is discrepancy about the archivability and call me old fashioned I like a hand pulled litho printed with like 10 or more colors over a giclee any day. If we were talking prints that cost a couple hundred I wouldn't complain about it being a giclee.

So how you can you be putting a 30 year max's on if you can't know? Can you find one article speculating that modern day archival quality giclee prints will only last 30 years?

Neate's Cold War for ยฃ1400!!, by dgb133 on Sept 6, 2007 4:25:10 GMT 1, Problem around here is if you get critical on ANYTHING people get pissed. It's not about whether you "like Neate" it's about whether or not it's worth 1.5k or 3k. But people round here seem to suggest that if you like the "image" who cares about the price or the product. You should sacrifice any amount. Whatever.
Yet another wonderful contribution to the forum.

Cheers Stuey - I'm well chuffed...Don't think I will be when I've paid for the framing though... Manty - cheers for the offer - think I'll hold onto it though! Anyways, the ensuing Giclee V Screenprint debate goes on and on.... What I want to know is, how do you pronounce 'Giclee'...? Is it Gick'lee' ..or Gice'lee.....I wanna know as I asked a mate and he didn't know.......?
