Both ways but I think he is a young growing artist who deserve raves critism and asks deserves promotion as a developing artistt. Some of his pieces are amazing Some have questions. But hats life I am disapointed that he now dislikes the forum as either love or hate.
Young. Artists should be encouraged. He gets my vote

Martin Whatson - the new DOLK?, by Daniel Silk on Apr 26, 2012 20:29:17 GMT 1, Yeah Martin is a great Artist, and he is still a member here
It's very important that Artists feel welcome here on the forum. Every Artist is sure to have people that dislike their work, and if those few are allowed to hound or abuse the Artist or fans of their work then it's a very slippery slope. Slowly Artists leave, and that's a loss to us all. Artists should be welcomed by all of us, so we can enjoy a vast variety of work from the whole scene, and from all over the World.

5. At present his body of work does not represent an Investment (see point 4).
6. Purchase his work because you enjoy it and are not worried by future prices.

Interesting points DD, some of which I totally agree with and some I do not. I think you are wrong about his work being all derivative. Some is, and some is not. The cosmonaut is not, The love heart choppers is. Choose well and you will buy well. Buy what you like in every Art buy because in the current economic situation, you will need to wait a long time if you want to have an investment.

Gotta echo this in the strongest possible way. Driving away artists is a major blow to venues like these, ones that already play on the "fringes" bringing new, interesting and, hopefully, some compelling artists to the forefront that otherwise wouldn't have a shot.
Everyone has their opinion and it's perfectly OK to voice and exchange ideas, point of this board right, but there's a way to do it that doesn't need slam those someone doesn't care into oblivion.
That doesn't mean artists need be babied or coddled either, it's a tough road they chose, they just have to be able to take the criticism and use it to their own judgment or discard. But lighting someone up to the point they don't even want to be here, hmm, I feel cheated as a collector and someone interested in art since the more I have a chance to see, the better.
Bottom line, ripping some artist or other is just shooting ourselves in the foot and missing out on a chance to see or discover some new talent or ones developing here.
love seeing guys like Rourke on here sharing their works and asking for input, think we want to encourage those kinds of exchanges for all artists. make them comfortable, more chance they'll open to us.

Martin Whatson - the new DOLK?, by Cornish Crayon on Apr 27, 2012 12:51:52 GMT 1, Plus one for the papa post,
Everybody has to start somewhere, if everybody who inspires to work there brain and develop new works and pieces, can't, because they ain't being given time, because they get knocked back then there is something seriously wrong,
In my opinion people fault works unless they are hyped or talked about in a good way then these works get sold on a month after the hype by people wanting to make a quick buck, Problem is that people immediately compare to other artists, instead of individual merit and talent
If somebody stencils they get compared to the big names that have impacted the art world, If I paint with oils will I be compared to the dude that cut his ear off !!!!?
It doesn't always happen over night,
That's the problem these days society has developed the need for everything to be perfect first time and if it isn't they look for the one that is, until the second,
Show me an artist who gets it right everytime, who please's everybody all the time, and I'd call them boring and I'd call you a .................
My 2pence I don't have many 😉

Odd that only 3 months after I showed with him in Oslo, with the 2 pieces shown below, he produces a mural that is nearly identical. Pity when someone has been at it for a few years and they still can't seem to find their voice. no love for the mute. take it home. stand on your own two.
