Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by Karl Read on Oct 25, 2012 21:06:41 GMT 1, Wow, received my gold print today! Way nicer than I was expecting. The colours really pop off the gold background. Very bold and bright, to screen this is an art in itself. The ink is thick and has a nice gloss to it, almost giving you the feel of its painted. Great looking print, if you have one coming you won't be disappointed.

Think I'm gonna float mine in a white box frame.

Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by anodyne13 on Oct 26, 2012 18:05:55 GMT 1, Great news for Katrins investors.
I know this is going to sound stupid, but Its a pet peeve of mine when people call people who purchase art with the aim of it increasing in value investors. They are speculators. Buying art with hope of increased returns is not an investment, its speculation.
"So there's two types of assets to buy. One is where the asset itself delivers a return to you, such as, you know, rental properties, stocks, a farm. And then there's assets that you buy where you hope somebody else pays you more later on, but the asset itself doesn't produce anything. And those are two different games. In investment attitude you look at the asset itself to produce the return. So if I buy a farm and I expect it to produce $80 an acre for me in terms of its revenue from corn, soybeans etc. and it cost me $600. I'm looking at the return from the farm itself. I'm not looking at the price of the farm every day or every week or every year. On the other hand if I buy a stock and I hope it goes up next week, to me that's pure speculation."
- Warren Buffett

For the record I think art is a terrible investment. That said art does provide two types of returns the capital appreciation in WB's quote and the enjoyment value you get while you own it. That is the "rent" you are earning. The value of the will depend on the art and the individual.
One thing that people overlook when it comes to art is the very high transaction cost. There are the obvious ones - auction, paypal fees, shipping costs but the not so obvious ones are the large bid ask spreads if you are looking for a fast transaction, insurance costs and potential uncompensated loss through lost, damaged or scammed shipping issues. Plus there is insurance or risk while you own the art.
I would advise anyone thinking of art as a major part of their investment strategy to really think hard about it. If you are using money you can afford to throw away then that's great but if you need the money. Please be careful.

seems like a lot of money for something so small, I purchased blue awareness and it is a lot more money for a small edition screen print but already the reaction from friends is how amazing it looks in the large scale at 96 x 66 cm or 38 x 26 inch
