Art Bikes + Show us your Bike, by gardenerben on Mar 9, 2014 9:18:03 GMT 1, My current bike, love it apart from the saddle.
Tried to man up and persevere with the Gobi that it came with but just doesn't work for me. The Brooks isn't too bad but in all honesty was a drunken purchase (Leather, hand crafted, last a lifetime, nourish and care for it, mould to the body and become bespoke, that's the one for me hic....) not the most practical. Think it's back to a WTB laser which never gave me grief on my old Kona.

Art Bikes + Show us your Bike, by spatia on Jul 2, 2014 15:49:13 GMT 1, Right - worked in a bike store throughout high school almost 20 years ago and dreamed of some of the bikes I now own.
My 2 new rides for this year are a Full XTR Specialized Epic S Works full suspension rig (carbon) with all the enve carbon bits you can think of and Mavic Slr Wheel set It's a 24lbs rig.
And my grail is a Full XTR Merlin XLM ti with ti seat post, stem and bars, Sub 3lb fork and Mavic SLR Wheelset. The bike weighs in at just over 21lbs.
Wanted one of those my entire life.

Art Bikes + Show us your Bike, by Deleted on Jul 2, 2014 16:50:18 GMT 1, Seriously thinking of getting a bike soon, need to get a bit fitter, used to work in Armstrong Bike Dock(think its just Bike Dock now) about 15 years ago, with the connecting buses it took 1 1/2 hrs to get to work(about 10 miles), the boss let me have a bike the first day which I cycled home and he let me pay it off over a few months. Cycled 20 miles a day 6 days a week, ass hurt like hell the first few weeks but it was fairly flat all the way so only took 30 mins or so, now I drive to the local shop just 10 minute walk, definitely had more spring in my step back then. My first nice wee downhill day out was down the side of a mountain with boulders and no suspension, had to take the seatpost off, through it down to the bottom and use my ass as a brake on the back wheel because of the gradient, it was more like freefall crossed with dodgems, the guys I just started working with who had plenty of experience AND SUSPENSION found it very funny. #CunnyFunts

Art Bikes + Show us your Bike, by Graham H on Jan 7, 2019 10:13:51 GMT 1, Didnt even know this thread existed!!
Im just a sad old dad, who is trying to retain his youth for too long. Spent an amazing week in Sept last year in mountain bike mecca - Whistler in BC Canada with my 18 year old son.. the pain and joy all mixed into one holiday. Id like to say I taught him a thing or two..but that would be downright lies..
Hardly big air.. but having a blast.. Id recomend it to anyone!

Art Bikes + Show us your Bike, by Daniel Silk on Nov 27, 2022 2:50:09 GMT 1, What do you think of Carbon bike frames and parts? I'm still nervous of them ๐ ya see so many photos and videos of mangled bikes in crashes. Even though metals are heavy, I feel safer on something that has a bit of weight to it.

Art Bikes + Show us your Bike, by Fluffy Pillow on Nov 27, 2022 15:55:13 GMT 1, What do you think of Carbon bike frames and parts? I'm still nervous of them ๐ ya see so many photos and videos of mangled bikes in crashes. Even though metals are heavy, I feel safer on something that has a bit of weight to it. Carbon is the way. Lugging a heavy bike is not efficient for long hauls or up mountains, even if you have to push through sections. Titanium is a smoother, welded option too but usually just as expensive. My road bike is built up with fully carbon with exception to the tires, saddle and drivetrain. It is a โ14 Cervelo R3 with newer Enve components - stem, bar, seatpost, and wheels (3.4, rim brakes). Wheels were last as I was somewhat hesitant too (and pricy) but now have over 5000 miles on them and they want to move. My buddy has the same set but with disc brakes (newer carbon bike.) My mountain bike is also carbon, helping the uphills and hopping, but I try not do anything daring enough to break bike or body parts. The main thing is building up your bike for your comfort and your goals. If you get hit by a vehicle or drop off a cliff it isnโt going to matter what materials you pedal. I really havenโt seen pro riders, mountain or road, break frames or components unless it was a test piece.
