Daytona, not my cup of tea.

Mmmike - I'm with you. My Timex Ironman has been with me for seven years now. Never let me down. I also have a cheap Armani watch I bought on the plane back from seeing England win the Rugby World Cup in 2003. The idea was every time I check it I remember Jonny's drop goal. Works a treat.

Rolex Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by jaydeecee on Jul 19, 2012 21:42:58 GMT 1, Do you want new or second hand? Modern or vintage? Do you see it as an investment?
8k will get you pretty much anything you want from the steel and two tone range (if you are willing to go 2nd hand).
If you buy well 2nd hand you shouldn't lose any money when it comes time to sell, you might even make a few quid given the constant price rises Rolex has and the fact the 2nd hand market follows closely as well....
A new yachmaster will depreciate quickly. A daytona should hold it's value. You should be able to pick up SubCs a touch under list at the moment new.
You can get a lot of vintage for 8k. 5513s, red sub, GMTs.....
It really depends what you want in a watch.
There is a lot out there but for me it would be a Seadweller 16600 and a 5513. Or just one of those plus enough change for a signed Banksy ;D.
Good luck!
Jay.

Some people have crazy expensive watch collections.. But there is a huge following, I check this forum forums.watchuseek.com/forum.php as I am after a vintage watch from the 70's which hardly comes around - so I suppose it the same hunt as buying ltd prints.. but to be honest I was suprised how many people are on this forum.

Otherwise, just go to a shop and try them on & buy what you like !
Attached some pics. of my Zenith Daytona from 1991 / N -Series.
Two classics

Totally agree - they look ace, are hard to get and go up in value every year (one of the few Rolex's that do).
If you can get your hands on one - make sure it has all the papers - you'll be laughing.
Given the 5 year wait list, it's unlikely you'll get one from a Rolex store... but there are loads of dealers around who sell them on for about ยฃ7.5 - ยฃ8k.
Good luck!

How do you ensure your not buying a fake? can you get the equivalent of a pest control certificate? :-) The fakes these days have papers boxes etc and dont make your wrist go green so am a bit worried buying private.
