Has this place changed? , by lee3 on Nov 5, 2015 0:32:09 GMT 1, Pretty sure it wasnt for him Definitely wasn't for me. I bought it for a friend. I do not own even 1 COA worthy Banksy's at this time. If I could afford his art I would buy a Gangsta Rat NYC as my first print and than a CYW and than a NOLA in that order. Fair enough and apologies for jumping to conclusions. Sounds like we have similar preferences for the editioned work too.

Has this place changed? , by Love Is In The Air on Nov 5, 2015 0:46:23 GMT 1, Only been on here a year so perhaps I am not best placed to voice an opinion, but price/cost/investment takes up a lot of space here and I guess that is to be expected to a degree given high Banksy print costs these days.
But on more positive note I have learned a huge amount from others in last 12 months and discovered a number of new artists who are now amongst my favourites. So there are still plenty of positives on here for lots of us and I appreciate it when you wiser members share your knowledge ; )
I also think when Dismaland was on, it showed forum at its best in the sense people were getting stuff for other members who couldn't go, offering spare tickets for free and working together and sharing their thoughts and memories from WSM. It was a great thread and a fantastic month or so to post on the forum.

Has this place changed? , by Dexter Bulldog on Nov 5, 2015 2:13:32 GMT 1, As a relative newcomer here (less than 3 years), I feel that the site has changed a bit as well. The example given of "why bother posting pictures that will go unaswered into cyberspace" kind of resonates a bit as to my feelings. I really don't pay too much attention to the politics of members unless I can see someone blatanlty being misleading, but that aside, it just doesn't feel like as fun a place to come to. I feel like people used to be more helpful in general and there was more 2 way conversation. Maybe it just seemed different as a newby at the time. I wish there was more converstaion and I'm guilty myself because I tend to just read others stuff instead of commenting because it feels pointless.
I also agree with people saying its also what members make of it, so I'll try and contribute more of my useless noob opinions/observations/opinions when I can.
Lastly does the timing of the "change" have anything to do with the surge in popularity of instagram? I'm not a big social media guy myself but people generally spend their life nowadays glued to their phone liking facebook and instagram. The old school message board seems to be losing contributors as everyone is spending so much time on there instagram accounts. Ive seen it here a bit, where information about artists used to be posted and now its just "it was on their instagram page". I've noticed with the bands I follow that their message boards are less active/useful because there has been a migration to instagram/facebook, seems like maybe that is happening a bit here too? am i just sounding like an old out of touch man?

I agree Instagram has changed it on here to a degree. I was an avid poster on the Street Art thread for a number of years and have posted recently, but the thread drops as only a few people are interested in it. So I post less now. Most people get their street art photos from insta, and we as forum have been developing that as well to move forward. Equally we have tried to bring our FB site more to peoples attention. The forum is getting new members and we are always thinking of new ways to take it forward.

Has this place changed? , by Lroy on Nov 5, 2015 8:32:35 GMT 1, I think that we are most of all in the " after-dismaland ". Like people feeling a bit despressed after a big event. Before I put on line my 10 minutes compilation video ( with stupid music anyway - could not make more ), I was on nerves, and I felt relax after posting it, I don't know why, maybe I did not want to miss one lost corner of dismaland, one minute of the event...
The thread was great ( Yes , you are right, even on facebook ( apart for the SSOSVA and Silen who resists, and post there, more photos than words - anyway murals, graffitis and prints are pictures, so better to see them ) ... Yes, there was a bit of gossips ( anxious , I asked my friend Alex if it was me, but, no, kindly, He answered me that it was not ) , so I took them off - the little I have done - , and, of course, I apologize for you all, memebers of the third dimension ;-).
Yes .dappy is right, when you have a view on " recent threads " on you smartphone, you have only sales ( this morning is better and on Dappy's one we have hopefully this trhead, one about a movie, Pahln book coming etc.. ) ...
What I see, is that prints coming out now are excessively expensive and I am wondering why ?! That is why I think that the street-art market is not going high but down ( the first price, at the sale on line, is the double or triple price than that it was before )....
As i said, I am extremly shocked to see that " our " great Mural Roa - I take an example - , lost so many value ( I imagine him seeing that the bear one have been sold for I dollar on ebay ) , and it seems that only " prints " coming still make attention to street-art or art lovers ( Lazarides still have amazing prints anyway ).
What a big post again, I hope that you have ( not, lol ) understand it all ! A big thank to Coach to have opened it !

But on more positive note I have learned a huge amount from others in last 12 months and discovered a number of new artists who are now amongst my favourites. So there are still plenty of positives on here for lots of us and I appreciate it when you wiser members share your knowledge ; ) I also think when Dismaland was on, it showed forum at its best in the sense people were getting stuff for other members who couldn't go, offering spare tickets for free and working together and sharing their thoughts and memories from WSM. It was a great thread and a fantastic month or so to post on the forum.
That is encouraging to read. Exposure to new artists is a great thing about this forum, for sure.

Perhaps. But it may be asking too much after what must have been the colossal effort of Dismaland.

That ROA print is terrible and it's still available here: store.lollapalooza.com/collections/posters/products/2012-lolla-poster-numbered-edition
Not surprised it went for practically nothing. More than I would have paid, personally.

Because He still had friends and members here - just before they move on the other forum ? It was a sad day and I still like a lot of them, some are still on both fora. Sorry but frankly, this is naughty shabby... And - ii hope so - nobody thinks that. Peace.

Has this place changed? , by Deleted on Nov 6, 2015 10:38:43 GMT 1, No its hasn't. Not really. it was always about the lucre, except we didn't talk about it openly. I mean, how many cyberspace virtual A4 sheets can you fill with philosophical discussion of the merits of Dolk and repeat ad nauseam star wars distillates?
The core have moved on in the past decade, grown up, re-prioritized. Brash migrants, usually from the ex colonies or the new world have arrived, little versed in the drawing room gentility of traditional bonksy forum etiquette and the vulgarity of money discussions.
Gained a market, but lost tradition? I am unwilling to take a public stand on this. I am sure however that someone can rustle up a Ghandi meme that will slap me down. make no mistake. its a fair cop guv., but society is to blame. etc

Has this place changed? , by Dr Plip on Nov 6, 2015 12:38:27 GMT 1, It's hard to tell who's posting on here at times. I think sometimes, young members that appear to be quite jaded about the scene are actually people that have been around and around on here. Like when someone with 9 posts starts talking about how the forum has changed, chances are they've been here for some time.
You just never know who you're talking to on here.

Has this place changed? , by Coach on Nov 6, 2015 13:35:30 GMT 1, It's hard to tell who's posting on here at times. I think sometimes, young members that appear to be quite jaded about the scene are actually people that have been around and around on here. Like when someone with 9 posts starts talking about how the forum has changed, chances are they've been here for some time. You just never know who you're talking to on here.
Indeed. But I was getting the feeling that I might have known who infestor was, and if I was right, I was very much hoping that they would stick around. I may have been ompletely wrong though. Hey ho.

I think that's a huge problem, people should revert to their original names, I have no idea who anyone is anymore and would be cool to catch up with people. Perhaps people are scared of being banned under their original name ? hence my use of Marte Danielsen..lol
