grafter in the guardian., by Agent Provocateur on Jul 10, 2008 12:23:13 GMT 1, Very sad. There's a full double page spread in the centre of the Gaurdian with a picture of a street corner covered with flowers and tributes to Ben Kinsella. The caption reads:
In memory - 'Tributes continue to be added at the site in a North London street where 16-year-old Ben Kinsella was stabbed to death on June 29'
And in the middle of the tributes is the Angel and Rose canvas by Grafter leaning against a wall.
Touching

But now that it's been posted on here I bet it won't be too long until someone nicks it and sticks it on ebay. Such is the world we live in. And that is almost as sad.

I really really hope that doesn't happen. But I wouldn't be surprised...

Oh yes they could,
1. get rid of that Human Rights Act 2. stop pussy footing around Political Correctness 3. bring back 'stop and search' powers without the necessity for the poor bloody Police to be tied down with endless amounts of unnecessary paperwork etc. Let the Police 'Police'!

Seems pretty ridiculous that folk only get a caution for carrying something whose whole purpose is to injure or kill though.

The powers are there, but the courts are not using them and are giving out ridiculous sentences, I think the government, must intervene and make the courts give out mandatory sentence's for those charged with possession of carrying a knife.

This truly brought a nostalgic tear to my eye.
Oh, how I pine for the days of Pinochet, when the police could just police without the yoke of accountability, the hassle of paperwork, or the burden and obstructiveness of Human Rights considerations.

not so sure i would agree with your recommendations. humans rights are something we should hold in high respect. try living somewhere without them, then you may change your mind.

grafter in the guardian., by jackson.earth on Jul 10, 2008 14:28:32 GMT 1, Big props to Grafter - whatever people think of his work, and there is some debate out there, he is an absolute top bloke. If it does end up on ebay - i'm sure it won't be an easy ride for the seller. Or I should say - I hope.
What would be good to see is artists doing some anti-knife/gun crime pieces on the walls out there - sure it may seem cliche, but if you're a teenager caught up in it, living your life day to day next to those same walls, if it's approached in the right way it can only be a good thing

grafter in the guardian., by brun on Jul 10, 2008 14:39:18 GMT 1, i may sound like a telegraph reader here but the police aint the solution to knife crime ,what we need is NATIONAL AND CIVIL SERVICE . like they have in most other european countries ! where they have respect for their elders and their peers because in their prime teen years they are educated ,taught respect , and given hope . I come from the most violent city in western europe up there with mogadishu and medellin apparently . its called GLASGOW and the knife crime there is the choice of the bampot, they prefer knives . its been going on for years but nobody gives a fuck until a boy is killed whos sister was in eastenders ...... unlike my friends who live in italy, germany, holland , sweden etc i have encountered some serious mindless violence just for being in glasgow . time to get real this country needs sorting out !

grafter in the guardian., by angryboy on Jul 10, 2008 14:57:10 GMT 1, It's a tough balancing act definitely between sorting the causes and punishing the crime and no question that situation is a big cause. I don't think that means it can be tolerated at all though. There's tens (hundreds maybe) of thousands of kids in the same situation, the same lack of options, who don't knife someone.
A 15 year old getting 21 years and counting is pretty impressive.

fantastic post mate. locking people up wont solve shit. reduce poverty, give people hope and self respect and that might change things.
it makes me laugh when people will happily go on about how they love / own Banksys art and its subervise anti nanny state / police messages and then have a 'bang em up' attitude.
hypocrites!
