., by simona on Apr 20, 2015 18:54:14 GMT 1, I like how, in the first picture the invader is looking a bit shocked at where the knife is being poked! An interesting conundrum though, if the invader was going to be destroyed, is it right to save it or consign it to its fate?

Space invader chat - PHOTOS AND VIDEOS WELCOME, by simona on Apr 19, 2015 12:10:47 GMT 1, Good news! Following the successful invasion of the European Space Agency, Invader and the ESA has launched a competition to design your own mosaic. Invader and one of the astronauts will pick the best ones, and you can win some cool stuff from Invader (and the ESA)!
The bad news is that it is for under 12's only. Closing date is 15th May.
More details here... www.esa.int/esaKIDSen/SEM7GBE9C8I_LifeinSpace_0.html

Invader Invasion in the UK Book, by simona on Apr 14, 2015 18:59:03 GMT 1, Success! I've managed to get a brand new copy of Invasion in the UK at a fraction more than cost from a website in Japan!
Whilst on that website, I also picked up brand new copies of Invasion LA and the Cologne exhibition booklet as well- again pretty much at cost as well!
Lucky me!!!!! Isn't the internet wonderful!

Invader at HOCA, by simona on Apr 5, 2015 15:24:37 GMT 1, Invader has a new show on at Hong Kong Contemporary Art;
French artist Invader is internationally known for his pixelated mosaic โspace invadersโ which he has placed in over 60 cities around the world for almost 20 years. In January 2014, the artist launched the third wave of his โinvasionโ in Hong Kong 13 years after he first hit the city. The works showed a significant evolution, displaying characters from local culture and classic cartoons, but still in the artistโs immediately recognisable pixel aesthetic. This invasion was also unique as nearly 90% of his artworks were removed from the walls of the city within a few weeks, wiped out by an over-zealous local highway cleaning crew. Named after this strange undertaking, the exhibition will restore Invaderโs creative universe with pieces from the recent Hong Kong invasion, along with never-before seen videos, new LED artworks, and new monumental sculptures.
hoca.org/project/wipe-out-2/
I guess this'll be when the book is released. ...As well as the LED and 3d prints.

Space invader chat - PHOTOS AND VIDEOS WELCOME, by simona on Mar 25, 2015 19:40:21 GMT 1, It will be interesting to see if these do make it to the Space Shop. If they do, will they sell the actual sculpture or just the code so that you can print one.

Perspex Box Frame โข Display Box, by simona on Feb 19, 2015 22:46:55 GMT 1, Nice! Is that an Alias???
I'm looking to get something similar done for my Invasion Kit. Thanks for sharing the plans, its given me some good ideas.
Has anyone in the UK got any experience of working with plastic companies? I see on the Acrylidex website that they make bespoke frames for Invasion Kits - anyone know if they are any good?

Barcode rippling makes me :(, by simona on Jan 19, 2015 21:52:50 GMT 1, I've often wondered if glass or perspex causes some rippling. In the frames I have they all have fillets. On the prints I have where it is framed with glass, the print bulges out to touch the glass in colder weather and on hotter days in contracts back. Whereas the print that is framed with perspex stays in the same position all year round.

Banksy Girl With the Pierced Eardrum, by simona on Oct 20, 2014 20:27:37 GMT 1, I'm really liking this. The placement and name just makes for a really fun piece.
I'm no structural engineering expert, but another good thing about this is that it looks like it would be a sod to remove, what with the size of it, it spanning a couple of floors and also it being near to the corner of the building.

Clip frames, by simona on Oct 11, 2014 20:15:26 GMT 1, Hi,
Anyone know where I can get some quality clip frames from? I want to frame up a few gig posters and due to their size, to keep costs down I was thinking a clip frame would be the best option. But... all the clip frames I've ever seen look cheap and nasty.
I was hoping to find something with a wooden edge/back, nice smoothed edged glass and some decent looking clips. Surely there has to be something out there. If all else fails, then I don't mind making it myself, but am struggling to find some nice looking clips.
Can anyone help? Thanks

The Vilification of Banksyโs Success., by simona on Jan 4, 2014 13:32:58 GMT 1, Its an interesting article.
My opinion on why someone thinks that x is a good artist or not basically mainly comes down to how complex the piece seems to whoever is looking at it. For example, lets take a stencil image. I think some people see a stencil image and think 'ah, thats easy. I could've done that'. Well, yes you probably could have, but you didn't.
I think they forget that the image, or whatever it is, is the end product of a thought process thats starts with an idea, then moves onto finding the perfect placement, then the execution of it etc. Sometimes these pieces are put up in an amazing timescale, with daring feats of bravery and perfect placement. And that is all part of the talent of the artist in my opinion.
Then, as the artist becomes more popular, moving the image to a neat bit of paper does take something away from the original out on the street. But, the artist needs to live, eat, pay bills, fines etc so thats fine by me. And I get to own a bit something (if I'm lucky and the f5 gods are smiling). Doing shows, selling your art for $60 is creating something new. Long may it continue.
PS - Lets not forget that Banksy also provides a pretty easy access point into the art scene for many people to enjoy and then learn more and find other artists they like.

On the side of your house..., by simona on Nov 24, 2013 21:27:19 GMT 1, So you wake up one morning, do your business, get ready for work and leave the house. Upon leaving your house you notice something on the wall that wasn't there the previous day. You look and someone has put sneakily put some street art on your wall.
Who's street art would you like to see on the side of your house?
For me it would have to be an Invader or perhaps a Vhils (although I'd probably hear him do it!). A Banksy would probably be to much hassle.
