The one that got away, by sgolby on Apr 17, 2019 18:15:47 GMT 1, Definitely the only piece I regret selling was my CYW AP. I had to sell it to provide short term funding to my business, which ended up folding anyway.

Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by sgolby on Dec 8, 2016 19:42:27 GMT 1, Gotcha, I don't agree but that's what a discussion board is about, discussion. That said, I don't think Andy or Gonefellow were trying to make a print that fed off the "me too" thing. If you read Andy's posts from when he released the print, he clearly explained that the parody was a satirical comment on the company which had been removing famous street art. Sure. But then he made rude farmer rip off of rude copper. And I'm wrong in saying his boxhead is also another Banksy play? (Honestly asking, because I'm not sure.) In any case, it's one after another after another. And anyone who thinks it's not easy, play this game and see for yourself: 1. choose any banksy image 2. change one thing about the image (if it's Choose Your Weapon, change what's on the end of the leash. Or who's holding the leash. Or add another leash to the hooded character. Or Girl With Balloon, change what's on the end of the balloon string. CWSB, what else can you put in christ's hands? You can literally do it all day.) 3. Photoshop it. 4. ??!!? 5. Profit. OK, fair point.

Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by sgolby on Dec 8, 2016 19:26:19 GMT 1, Nope, not misleading at all. He didn't play along, he released a print, clearly stated that it was Gonefellow, a known board member. The conspiracy theorists who tried to draw a line connecting Banksy to Gonefellow despite knowing there is none, are the ones playing along with it. Andy did nothing wrong at all, in fact I am thankful to him that he sold this print for Gonefellow as he was always an upstanding member of the forum. Don't attack Andy for a myth being perpetuated by some members on here, it is unfair and unwarranted. I was responding directly to the above comment where he said andy was playing along. In any case, I'd think someone like Andy, who is a gallery owner, wouldn't willfully perpetuate the worst part of the urban art world, i.e. the "me too" print parodies and the surrounding bullshit "is he / isn't he" a famous artist. Those two tropes happens over and over, and people fall for it over and over. But it cheapens the entire movement IMO, and the fact that GF was a member here doesn't change my opinion. Gotcha, I don't agree but that's what a discussion board is about, discussion. That said, I don't think Andy or Gonefellow were trying to make a print that fed off the "me too" thing. Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by sgolby on Dec 8, 2016 18:42:09 GMT 1, Yes. The meat truck was also posted on here a couple of years ago and members liked it, which is why I presume he or Andy decided to make a print. All seems fair enough, the ones that liked it, bought it. I don't think this is anything like the 'outis' fiasco. Edit- sorry, just read your previous post and I sound like a fuckin parrot Just to add, the Banksy thing was also started here with members suggesting/joking Gonefellow could be Banksy. So Andy has just played along with it,with no intention of misleading. Andy playing aong with it, as a gallery owner releasing the print, is extremely misleading, intentional or not. DFace โข Union Jacked Print, by sgolby on Dec 8, 2016 17:13:28 GMT 1, If it is not a mistake then it is more of a show of confidence than lack thereof mate. wouldnt say so, he knows he gets interest but it has been soso in his last print release since the images were not that great, think the peace gun or the mashup of coke images and wtv, so if you have people in line waiting hours to buy a print, human behavior says there's a good chance they'll buy whatever print it is no matter what since they've waited so long. Fair point, let's agree to disagree on this one. Fact is both of those sold out, and the only ones who suffered were those who bought for after market value.

Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by sgolby on Dec 8, 2016 16:58:05 GMT 1, None of these prints were resold on the secondary market from what I can see - surely that has to be a big fat positive?! Whether it's cool or not to tweak other people's work, those who have bought these prints are keeping hold of them and you certainly don't see that with maby prints nowadays. Probably in the misguided hope that it turns out to be Banksy... then we'd see a few for sale! I actually think none of these are on the secondary market because Gonefellow was a very well respected member of the forum, and likely most if not all of these were purchased by people who followed him on here, and qwere happy to support him and loved the image.

Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by sgolby on Dec 8, 2016 15:47:01 GMT 1, This is not Banksy. Castle Gallery is not trying to propose that this os banksy. On their homepage it says specializing in art by the artists (plural) banksy and gonefellow. Let it be. Two different artists. Stop the speculation. ^ This ... By the way, I have no skin in the game either way, I am just saying there is a distinct difference between how Graffiti Prints used the "99% sure" line and Castle Gallery's clearly stating that they are 2 different artists.

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by sgolby on Dec 5, 2016 21:06:20 GMT 1, Judging by the cutout inside the box which just went on his instagram stories, I don't know that this is going to be a polaroid. It is definitely not a sneaker and not a baseball. The sneakers by the way are something he does with snarkitecture for the kith stores.
** edit... I am going with polaroid.

Should I be afraid to buy a Banksy?, by sgolby on Dec 5, 2016 16:55:24 GMT 1, Buy the art if you like it, chances are that with Banksy it will hold it's value and you will not lose big on the money spent. I think it is better to buy art you love on the primary market. The reality is that no one who bought banksy originally did it to make money, they did it because they liked his work. Chances are that in your collecting you will find one or two artists who appreciate in value. The fact is the true value of the art will be the happiness it brings you not the money you make, that is secondary. IF you are trying to make mney there are faster easier ways to do it.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by sgolby on Dec 3, 2016 17:42:24 GMT 1, Thanks for all of your comments, much appreciated. ย The work is from 2002, Edition of 5 from the LA Existencilism show at the 33 1/3 Gallery. I love these works, the iconic imagery and the raw texture and nature of the canvas. I have in the past owned other images from the same show of which were also editions of 5 ย and regret letting them go. The show editions of 5's included Barcode, Laugh now, Bomb hugger whilst Bird with Grenade and Barcode Shark also featured in this exhibition. Barcode shark (rectangle rather than diamond) was unique whilst I am not so sure about the edition size of Bird with Grenade. It's been a long process in tracking this one down but it eventually arrived yesterday and has been sent off to the framers this morning. This one will be buried for a long time.ย As for its arrival, I live overseas and it was sent by Helutrans Art carriers - It came crated but was removed from the crate prior to hitting my home. My wife took delivery but they took photographs and acted professionally and with care. From my perspective it is the first time a work has been removed from crate prior to reaching its final destination but it arrived safe and sound so all good.ย
Amazig piece man, congratulations!

Your latest Art Purchase?, by sgolby on Dec 1, 2016 23:24:05 GMT 1, A few months back I reunited with an old friend from University. She is now doing numerous different creative projects now, but one of them is watercolors. I figured I would commission her to paint a photo of my parents from the 70's. She then ended up sending me three including one of my cousin and I as children. In case you are interested in more of her work, her instagram is @francestulkhart, and her art is on her website 5minuteswithfranny.com/franny-art/ Mom and Pop: Me and My Cousin: A Neighbour of Frannie's walking down the street: How lovely. They must mean a great deal to you. I have had a look at her website, and was pleasantly surprised to find that lots of her paintings are called coach! HA! Yes Coach, that is because she was hired by the leather goods company named Coach to do a series of watercolors for them.

In case you are interested in more of her work, her instagram is @francestulkhart, and her art is on her website 5minuteswithfranny.com/franny-art/ Mom and Pop: Me and My Cousin: A Neighbour of Frannie's walking down the street:

THE CAGE OF THE BODY TO THE SOUL (New Sandra Chevrier print), by sgolby on Nov 30, 2016 20:40:07 GMT 1, Not at all. I said i don't like it, not you shouldn't like it. My main point was about giclee vs screen print, in that somehow, to me, screen print seems a bit more authentic and worth the price. S Oh, I am absolutely in agreement with you. I think that with a screen print, you're paying for a printer's time, skill and craft. With a giclee, it feels like you're paying more for the artist's current market popularity.
Edit: Did you mention a wonky tooth, wonky nostril or wonky eye?
No sir... oh i thought you were referring to me saying i didn'5 like her style. Sorry for internalizing!
