Your latest Art Purchase?, by Poly Mindset on Jul 21, 2019 18:35:17 GMT 1, Picked up this original on canvas from Leo Boyd. One of the nicest and most forthright artist and forum members around. I really like his style of mixing nostalgia with contemporary and screen printing with actual paint. Went with a simple box float frame so as not to detract from the piece. Sometimes there's a fine line in framing a fairly large piece (35 x 27 inches) so I went with the keep it simple stupid ideology. Thanks Leo this one's a keeper.

GMC-Can't Fight Cat Fight, by Poly Mindset on Jul 13, 2019 3:52:00 GMT 1, I know some people out there are tired of seeing artist utilizing cartoon characters but this one is great and abstract enough that you can keep looking and looking at it not really understanding exactly what it is that is drawing you in and holding your attention. Best thing I've seen in quite a while. I saw this earlier, it reminded me of Bast and Joyce Pensato(RIP) Collaboration for some reason. I see more of a Basquiat (in the back round) and Joyce Pensato collaboration. I see a little of Bast in the eyes. Either way it's awesome. It reminds me of dropping acid at Disneyland many moons ago. It's so dynamic and fun. I love it.

New Banksy?, by Poly Mindset on Jun 24, 2019 19:04:00 GMT 1, Is "propaganda" here shorthand for "message I don't agree with"? Most of what moron (aka the artist Ploppi) writes is shorthand for "I'm bitterly unsuccessful".
Success is measured in many ways. I happen to like some of Ploppi's work and even own a few of his pieces and he keeps his prices reasonable. As for what he writes or says, well you can't please everybody all the time.

Who's worth watching?, by Poly Mindset on Jun 4, 2019 23:03:08 GMT 1, I don't know about anybody else but I'm getting a bit bored with the current art scene. It seems to be full of people churning out cartoon characters. And if it isn't cartoon characters, it's skulls or ballerinas. Is there any artist you collect that is doing something slightly more interesting and ambitious? I'm not looking for investments, just some interesting art that I can hang on my walls. I like the idea of supporting up and coming artists but I'm struggling to find anyone worth looking at these days. Any suggestions? I'm liking more and more stuff done by a forum member named Leo Boyd. Hope to have one of his originals soon. I like the fact that he incorporates both screening techniques and paint in his work and how his work exemplifies through his characters the fact that we are becoming or have become technology. I also appreciate that what he is doing, to my knowledge nobody else is doing. Probably somebody else is but Leo is nailing it on many different and humorous levels. Of course some more humorous than others but IMHO he definitely has something going here.

Donald Trump, by Poly Mindset on May 16, 2019 23:13:01 GMT 1, With all that's going on in politics not only in this country but around the world as well and as crazy as things are, at this point in my life I've come to the realization that I should probably stop drinking less. Seriously.

NEW Shepard Fairey Print Release, by Poly Mindset on Apr 25, 2019 2:35:55 GMT 1, I don't like all the shepherd's images and I don't try to buy all of them. I certainly no longer get disappointed when I can't get one ... But I do like this image. It reminds me of some of the first season X-Files images and plays to UFOs and conspiracy theories which I loved when I was a kid I agree and I'm in. Hope it gets funded cause I think it's a way cool Shep image and a way cool band. Keith Morris is a punk from LA way back when I was a young punk in OC. If you look at the trailer of the movie @ 3:41 you'll see the name Agent Orange above Off on the written list of band performing at that club. That was the band I roadied for in my youth and later I produced some vinyl for them. However, Morris was in Black Flag and the Circle Jerks both two very hardcore punk bands back in the day. He may be crazy or he may be smarter than everybody but he has been around the block a few times and still knows how to freekin' rock. The cool thing about the image tho is it looks different and better IMHO than most Fairey images. I like the little Andre on the bldg in the lower left corner. I would definitely hang this one.

Donald Trump, by Poly Mindset on Apr 13, 2019 6:06:23 GMT 1, As long as the job numbers are good and the economy looks good, Americans will accept anything. Yes, even a racist, xenophobic, vile, piece ofs**t in office (and that's putting it lightly). Please don't stereotype all Americans. I am one and I am pissed! I work hard pay tax on everything and then pay more taxes and then get to watch as 60 major corporations get off Scott-free with no taxation at all because of a tax restructuring Trump and the republicans put in place. I stopped believing anything he says about 9 months ago.

Harland Miller โข Thought After Filthy Thought, by Poly Mindset on Mar 21, 2019 17:59:01 GMT 1, I agree the market is not equal for all Harland Miller's work but it seems the hype is. Obviously some pieces stand out more than others. Take a look at Painting for Charles Adams, Sweet Afton, Heroin, and many of his Penguin Plays pieces, although great pieces they are not in the ball park of his Penguin Book Covers. I'm not saying these new releases aren't worthy pieces to own but the difference between the originals and the prints I truly think makes these less desirable than some of his other works mainly his Penguin Book Covers. I think in the long term these will eventually slide as well. Nah this is like Gerhard Richter and Harland in one. Iโm killing 2 birds with one stone here. This style is definitely welcome and stands separate from his penguin works. Every thread here. Itโs always about forecasting the value. Like in the Oli Epp thread where you guys are basically asking, โis this Pride print too gay to flip?โ Itโs actually a pretty powerful print if you ignore resale for a bit. Yโall even like art here? Colors and drips and patterns. Text. This has it all. f**ka penguin. I like splashes of colors I like books I love fonts. This does nicely. I just want to add. Iโm not arguing. Iโm just discussing. No hard feelings. No offense taken. It's great discussion. Don't get me wrong I like both pieces as well and wish I could get even just one to hang on my wall. However, I think it's hard to get one on release here in America. I tried to purchase Charles Adams on release and had one but Manifold used a third party credit card company to run my purchase and next thing I know the money went through but the order didn't. In the end I had to get my credit card company to deny the payment. Huge hassle, never got the art but wasn't out the $3k. My point was that even as nice as they are I don't think in the long term they will be as desirable on the open market as his Penguin Book Covers. Additionally, I just can't picture 20-40k on release.

Harland Miller โข Thought After Filthy Thought, by Poly Mindset on Mar 21, 2019 5:13:45 GMT 1, No offence dude....but??? Harland Miller is SOARING! This new set of prints are AWESOME. LOVE the In Shadows I Boogie!!!! Shows HM can do more than just Penguin Book covers! Mind you his Penguin Book Cover OG pieces are flying up in price and extremely difficult to buy! If anything HM is on a huge projection upwards. He has barely scratched the surface of the Asian or North American markets... and primed to explode! Not to mention he is represented by White Cube- one of the World's premiere galleries. HM editions are the gold standard for many interior designers... The future is BOLD and BRIGHT for Harland Miller And good luck to all of us trying to buy his new incredible editions. They will be very, very, very tough to secure and deservedly so... No offense taken. But I don't agree that anything you wrote means this is a long term buy. I think the hype is at its all time high, and that the slow slide down is near, unless the big dogs can continue to prop it up at auction then the bubble may be longer-lived I agree the market is not equal for all Harland Miller's work but it seems the hype is. What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by Poly Mindset on Mar 15, 2019 19:09:38 GMT 1, Just went and saw Billy Idol and Steve Stevens doing a small acoustic show in San Diego the other night at the Belly Up which hold maybe 400 people. He's still quite a performer and can still sing a razor line. He even did "Kiss Me Deadly" tho well done acoustically it didn't pack the punch of the Generation X version. Still was a fabulous show. This is not my video but rather one downloaded to You Tube.

D*face Love Bites for sale, by Poly Mindset on Mar 1, 2019 0:07:13 GMT 1, ^ hoping to raise some funds for other frame jobs. Somebody should write a song called "Frame Job" about all the horrors and frustrations when it doesn't work out right. I think most members here could contribute at least one line. Best of luck to you with your endeavor.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Poly Mindset on Feb 12, 2019 20:55:32 GMT 1, Finally got this girl in a frame. My frame shop closed so I did an online frame shop for the first time and it's pretty good for the price which was about half of what my frame shop would've charged. I picked the Eelus up from Kuni (I think) last year sometime and took framing cues from Inknart cause I liked the way his looked. I'm just happy I framed something in the que cause it seems like it gets bigger and bigger.
